I've been using the internet since 1995; hilariously beginning on an old Commodore 64 and 1200 baud modem (and Telix 3.2.1). Right now I work on them/build them for a living. Keeps my mind active :).
Yeah the Fuel pod are for player replays. From the ad on the internet "Separate fuel-pod bonus computer for each player steps one point each player sends ball into orbit. Bonus points ranging from 4 to 9 add importantly to player's total per game" I had to find out or would have lost sleep as usual.
see, i contend that having the ball spend so much time just bouncing around is a stylistic choice: the game's set in space, where there's no gravity and things just kind of listlessly float around. also: i like that PAPA really captured the arcade feel by having the quintessential weird patterned carpet
Now THIS is the type of pinball I remember playing back when I was a kid (and for the record, I was 6 in 1968!). No fancy digitized voices, no new-fangled upraised rails, no multiple playing fields, just pure battin' a ball around with a couple of flippers... ...eh, I still want The Black Hole :).
He can't really hold the phone horizontally using just the token cup, not to mention that PAPA records their pinball videos in a vertical aspect ratio as well to focus on the entire playfield and project the footage onto massive vertical screens at events.
Wait, that Theatre of Magic machine was on the Cosmos machine's left at the start of the video... then it was on the right later in the video.... HOLY SHIT THEATRE OF MAGIC IS ACTUALLY MAGICAL!
I have this weird suspicion that this game was made to make pleasing sounds (like in a casino) and not actually to provide a significant amount of fun.
These types of games are called 'zipper flippers' for the way they come together. Unfortunately, not many of them are very much fun. I wish you could have chosen a cooler EM game so they don't all look so lame!
CGR reviews are cool, intresting and funny - usually. This one? Not so much sorry. Being good fun at the beginning, it lacks any serious aspects about this classic Pin, IMHO. Sure, the ruleset is shallow, compared to todays standards. But I think, the game and it's creators still deserve some respect, by explaining the rules properly - it IS a review after all, right? ;) This all said, please allow me: - Skill shot: Back in the days before "Lane change" launching the ball precisely, was the first task to master in a ball of Pinball. Hit the rebound, to lite the center lane, get it and score big. Obviousely too challenging for today's players... ;) - Zipper-Flippers do not "stay closed for some seconds", but as long as you avoid to hit the targets, opening them again. - The three UFO's with those small rollovers do activate features on the playfield, when lit. - Fuel Pods!? Hard to achieve (orbiting the planet), being another way to win replays, beside the usual tresholds. Sure, there was lots of "bouncing around" on these games and luck was a much bigger factor. But it also takes lots more of skill to master those tables than a new game, thus if you DO master the challenge, it just feels great. Try it - but with some more seriousness, perhaps...
I love those cell phone shots. You should do more of them when reviewing pinball machines. IT FEELS LIKE I'M ACTUALLY IN THE GAME!
Thanks for doing a review of a "classic" pinball that would have otherwise been lost in time.
"Cosmos: boldly going where no one ain`t never done gone before".
this is why i`m a subscriber. CGR for life.
I love the way Mark gets really into his Pin Ball reviews lol :D
Mark keep the pinball vids rolling in! We love them in Boston :)
Ah, yes. Just like any classics on media or hobby, they never fail to entertain even if time passes some decades.
I love CGR, man.
I like that you did close ups of the art work

COSMOS....COSMOS!.....COSMOS!!!!. hahaha love mark and this channel is the best here on youtube
Welcome back to earth Mark
Love pinball reviews. And pinball tournament videos. CGRPinball channel needs some new content!
Really don't see how people dislike this video. Click a link of a review of a pinball table then not like it. Weird.
what a old game i love your review show
Classic and nice art work. Good quality
I certainly hope that Theatre of Magic table right next to it gets a review!
I own one of these machines and must say its VERY COOL!
Theater of Magic!!! Please do one on that machine!

"It's like putting a chain link fence in front of a black hole."
I'm going to borrow this line from now on.
Yes! More pinball reviews!
in the future we all will have 5 balls
If I owned one of these Cosmos machines, and wanted to sell it; what do you think I could get for it?

i like the pov at the flippers. it is cool that they mover. PAPA this is the only reason for me to come to Pittsburgh here.

Great video!!
Nice cup reverb action there.

That is something never get old "PINBALL"

I've watched CGR a million times, but I've never understood the squirrel or where he got the intro music. Anyone?
Please review that Rocky and Bullwinkle pinball machine! :D

DRINKING GAME!!! Every time Mark says COSMOS take a shot!!
Please review the "Who's Tommy" Pinball machine in the back!!

I really hope he reviews that Theater of Magic table next to him.
CGR FOREVER!
am i the only one that thinks mark should reveiw more pinball machines?
This game came out for production by Bally in January of 1 9 6 9.
Room tour!
This machine is pretty advanced for the era!
always something more satisfying about playing the old purely electromechanical pinball games, instead of the computerized ones.
I kept looking at my front door when the pinball machine made the ring sound.
Cosmos, with high echo, the voice sound cool
More Pinball!!!

Carl Sagan once said he made the TV show Cosmos after playing this pinball machine - true story
Looks like it's visually styled after the Jetsons.
I adore classic pinball machines like this one. Is this the oldest game that Mark has reviewed?
Every time you said Cosmos I wanted to play Final Fantasy Dissidia :)
Mark you should review more game music
Es mi imaginación o el hueco entre los dos flippers es mas grande que un pinball promedio?
Do one on Silverball Mania
Wait, that Theatre of Magic machine was on the Cosmos machine's left at the start of the video... then it was on the right later in the video.... HOLY SHIT THEATRE OF MAGIC IS ACTUALLY MAGICAL!
This pinball machine probably should have had Carl Sagan's face on the front of it. Also, they really liked bells with their pinball in the 60's.
Fantastic
More pinball yay!
I CAN FEEL THE COSMOS!!!!!!!!
more pinball!
Wasn't that "other Mark" in Clerks? LOL
aw man i love dr. dude!
show ALL your pinball machines.
Hello, Rocco.
Playing those games is fuckin tough but can be done. The less you flip the better, and when you DO flip every shot counts.
1968... Yeah, It's the oldest. Also because there wasn't commercial videogames in the 60s. Only prototipes...
Yay
Hello Dauun.
That pinball machine was made the same year as 2001: A Space Odyssey
I have this weird suspicion that this game was made to make pleasing sounds (like in a casino) and not actually to provide a significant amount of fun.
Mark has the same phone as me. I'm swooning....
Please do not change the intro music
Review Dr dude. Or you can come to my house and review it lol
"This is the future! I have 5 balls!"

I subscribed for the squirrel.

Aww, Yeah!
"Lets go... there..."
Needs more Carl Sagan.
He played this all day and never touched Theatre of Magic???
Mark , you made this video only to say cosmos with reverb , didnt you?
your profile pic made me pause for a sec until I was sure it wasn't real. Hate to have hit the screen for nothing!
well, that`s another reason for subscribing i suppose. :)
KOS-MOS?
Now I want to watch Seinfeld.
Why can't Papa be open all the time!
1968 holly fuck that machine old lol
Where's Carl Sagan?
6:26 Duck tape fixes everything.
1968, that's old.
