    Things you learn from this channel:
    1. Pay attention to signs and warnings.
    2. Don't go hiking/diving in random places without telling someone where you are going to be, and getting the proper training.
    3. Don't cut corners in safety if you are a business
    4. Don't be the like button around MrBallen.

      idk about number 2 you might want to refine that to "don't go scuba diving at all" -- most of these diving stories involve people with proper training =/

    • @samuelrachels3174
      @samuelrachels3174 3 ปีที่แล้ว +21

      @@CT-ho6si Nah you can go scuba diving. There are plenty of safe areas where, as long as you keep very strictly to the guidelines and safety measures, you have a very low chance of even getting hurt. Worst case scenario in those situations you pull your belt and rocket to the surface. even in the more difficult dives you just have to be respectful of what you are doing and make sure that you are prepared with every contingency possible.
      I am sure there are one or two mixed in that are true misfortune, but most of these stories are negligence or downright stupidity. Going past 130 feet without proper oxygen mix (which implies you didn't even fucking google "recreational diving" or anything since it comes up pretty quickly in all of the sites, so not trained at all), not heeding signs that state very openly that you will most likely die past that point, and generally undertaking tasks that are considered near impossible or exceedingly dangerous. Those things are not unfortunate, they are stupid. I do feel sorry for the people that died, and their families, but these are all really really unwise decisions.

    • @knybean
      @knybean 3 ปีที่แล้ว +153

      @Angry Hippo During my time in the US Navy, the Seals would put us through physical hell while screaming in our faces for hours at night. As long as you didn’t quit, as long as you gave 100%, they wouldn’t kill you. Several Navy Seals would rotate through the group looking for anyone giving less than 100% and if they saw that, Heaven help you!
      Ballin’s voice is the Seal voice that gives you a shot of encouragement. That you’re doing it right, and if you keep it up, you’ll make it to the end. That voice I’ve heard before, and that tells me it’s almost nighty night time. Zzzzzzz...Zzzzzz.

    One of the scariest things I ever learned about komodo dragons is that they have such an intense sense of smell that , because of the size of the island , there is literally no place you can go that they would not catch your scent. I used to work in a vivarium and we had a Komodo dragon. One day he escaped his enclosure - the vivarium had closed and we were waiting to be able to move the animals to the new location - That day it was only my co-worker and me working there.
    There were construction work not far and suddenly I see a worker knocking on the glass door. I answer and he tells me that there's a really big lizard on the road. My first thought was that it was the smaller Nile monitor that had somehow escaped so I quickly looked in his enclosure and there he was, napping under the lightbulb. So I start running down the road to go see what that was about and there I see this massive Komodo dragon strolling down, having the time of its life.
    My immediate first thought was, so crazy person has a dragon as a pet somewhere near hear and it escaped. I ran back to the vivarium, found my co-worker and told him what was going on. We took the first things we could find, ran back out there, went past him and started corralling him back towards the vivarium. At some point people saw what was happening and called the authorities. The police showed up but were not trained to deal with a situation like this so my co-worker and I kept leading him back to his enclosure.
    I was behind him with two large plastic container lids showing him the right direction and my co-worker was in front. We were super close to the entrance when a women appeared with her dog, having no idea what was going on. We told her to leave the area as fast as possible and keep her dog on the leash. The Komodo dragon started to panic and ran past the entrance to the other side of the building and into the forest that was behind it. We followed it and tried to lead him towards his enclosure but he was frantic and the same woman appears with her dog again. At the point I was really scared that he would attack that dog so I shouted to her to just freaking leave the area completely and that it was not safe.
    After about 1h we managed to get him back into his enclosure and the fact that he was trained and knew us probably helped in the process. It was a very unique and exhilarating experience. I just sprung into action and - thanks to my knowledge - just knew what to do. That same dragon had attacked a keeper a while ago because she was inexperienced and too trusting with him. She was okay but suffered from the after effects of the bites for months after the attack. Other than that he was highly intelligent and very gentle but it just shows you that wild animals just stay wild and unpredictable, even if they were born in captivity.

I was surprised that I wasn't given any direction or even a guide to show me around so I walked on the trail for 5 hours taking photos of dragons, deers and water buffalos before returning back to the boat to island hop to Irian Jaya. The dragons looked so clumpy that I wasn't concerned about an ambush but thinking back, was probably not the best idea to be walking around solo.

      Theres no drought wen 2/3 of the planet is water. If your community was dying from lack of water, they wld let you die. If it happened in the Elites nbrhood, they wld fix it. Water should not be a crisis for ANYONE. Not enuf people kno about Primary & Secondary water. Secondary water is rain runoff & snow melt runoff- germ filled water that needs to be chlorinated. Primary water is CLEAN HEALTHY PURIFIED Sea water that shows up ALL OVER the world, ready to drink. Niagara Falls, the river in Kauai & various other rivers & springs are examples of Primary water. some companies bottle it & sell it, even tho it comes out of the Earth for FREE. (ie Fiji bottled water, arrowhead water). The US people get "treated" chlorinated Secondary water to drink & use in our homes. Edit: there's more than enuf Primary water in the world to supply all drinking & farming needs. Also, some communities in Calif utilize water desalinization plants to make sure they never run out of water, most are not used, they are for back-up. However, Catalina Island, in Calif relies 100% on their plant to supply the Island with fresh drinking water. It costs them the same as regular water.

Most die from being entangled in the kelp itself as abalone like to live at the bottom of kelp forests. So why in this story is the kelp a place of safety? Secondly they die from drowning due to rough waters and some manage to get to land after using up so much energy that they eventually die of a heart attack. Sharks have rarely killed the abalone hunters so this one is a bit annoying as this guy is usually pretty good with the stories he chooses. Second story: I'm glad Jack was smart enough to back out and didn't try to act all tough. I also appreciate the fact that the older members of the group didn't tease him or egg him on to go through with it - though foolish to ignore the signs and go into Devil's Hole, they sound like they were good guys at heart. (Don't ask me I won't EVER lead anyone to their death). Anyone that's ever going out in the Mojave desert, please make sure you're prepared! Have tons and tons of water. Have a 4wheel drive vehicle and always, always, ALWAYS tell rescue groups where you're headed. Asking locals about where, " dead zones" For your phone are is also important. They absolutely will know. A very large population of people in that area dirt bike ride and have found hundreds apon hundreds of people that have passed on. The heat isn't like anything anyone has ever felt unless you grew up here. They say the body has " at least 3 days without water" out there.. This DOESN'T APPLY!!!! You have about 1 and a half days! Even locals that know the area, die out there. PLEASE save your life and let people know you're out there. The rescue groups WILL find you. Amazing groups of people. 100% of these people go out and rescue people on their own dime. They're called, " the tin benders." I know several people that have been rescued from these amazing people! Plllllease stay safe. This isn't an area to just be blahzay about!

But, many do not want to put in the hard work- and I understand this & its their choice. I understand that many dont care about material things or saving money, that less is more. At my age Im doing that too. But, Whats going on now, is that the Govt is taking from those who want to work, to support those who dont want to work. This is what I dont agree with. Im old, but those of you that are younger need to get involved to keep this from happening bc everyone of you (not the elite ruling class) will live in a US where there is only 2 classes - the poor & the Govt (Elites, Ruling Class). This is what happens when a Govt gets too big. I ❤️ my country, so its painful to watch.
