      Yes, Orson Welles brought naturalism on screen, Brando commercialised it and Hoffman took it to another level.
      Whenever, you see actors like Welles, Brando or Hoffman they always seem so natural.

    One of the remarkable things about him was that he always stood out, no matter who was in the film, how great they were, or how big a role he had.
    #8. Almost Famous- Oscar nominated roles were Kate Hudson and Frances McDormand, and Hoffman still stood out.
    #7. The Talented Mr. Ripley- Jude Law and Matt Damon were the most critically praised, and he still stands out.
    #6. Magnolia- This film had so many wonderful actors who all gave great performances (Tom Cruise, Jason Robards, William H. Macy, Julianne Moore, John C. Reilly). Cruise clearly stole the show in the film, Cruise was the only nominated actor for the film, and Hoffman still stands out.
    #5. Charlie Wilson's War- Was the only actor nominated despite being in a film including Tom Hanks, Amy Adams, and Julia Roberts.
    #4. Doubt- Clearly holds his own in the film with acting greats Meryl Streep and Amy Adams (all of which were Oscar nominated).
    #3. Boogie Nights- Burt Reynolds, Julianne Moore (both of which were nominated), Mark Whalberg, John C. Reilly, Don Cheadle, and William H. Macy were all in it, and he STILL stands out.
    Honorable Mention: Scent of a Woman- Pretty small role in a film which won Al Pacino an Oscar and a Golden Globe nomination for Chris O'Donnell, and he STILL stands out.
    Honorable Mention: The Big Lebowski- Stands out in a film that includes Jeff Bridges, Steve Buscemi, Julianne Moore, John Goodman, John Turturro, and Sam Elliott.
    Wonderful actor!

    Every film he was in, he was the star. Those that burn the brightest also burn out fastest. I'm so tired of seeing people I admire and who give me a few hours of joy turn up dead the next day, usually from drugs, accidental or not. River Phoenix broke my young heart. Tom Petty broke my adult heart. Losing Hoffman is like dropping your priceless diamond ring down the gutter. It's irreplaceable and for the most stupid reason. Thank you all for the joy you brought us. I wish you hadn't also broken our hearts.

    Not even a mention of his performance in Red Dragon, as gossip rag columnist Freddy Lounds. He was awesome in that.
    And no Twister?! Smh
    And to everyone who says that this is "idolizing a heroin addict"...you just look ignorant.
    This list is simply based on his acting skill, not his personal life.
    His death is tragic. The people who are shaming him for being an addict has obviously never dealt with the disease that is heroin addiction. You're lucky. You didn't have to watch so many of your friends/family struggle with this. Struggle to get clean, only to relapse and overdose 4, 5, 6, 10 years later. I wouldn't wish that on anyone. Be happy that you never had to witness that, but don't trash the ones who had to deal with this disease. I'm not saying you have to feel sympathetic. I'm not trying to tell you how to feel or think about this, but I am saying don't trash people, especially if you haven't dealt with this particular disease personally.

    I'm sorry but the reason I even know who PSH was is because of his role in Along Came Polly. I knew he was a serious actor, I knew he had a lot of talent, but unlike many of the powerhouses we see on the Oscar stage, he took a small comedic role in a rom-com and became the single best thing about the movie. It's great to highlight his dramatic talents, but what made him great was his range.

      Dude there are millions of actors they haven't done this with and tons who they have. They would've gotten to him eventually if enough people suggested it but he died before enough people suggested it just because he was a great actor and not because he was dead.

    • @washywashie
      @washywashie 10 ปีที่แล้ว

    • @TheAdamlans
      @TheAdamlans 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      ha ya that was a pretty aweome scene. I like Joaquin's ability to go through a healing process throughout the movie... becoming timid, to angry, back to timid... it was so versitile. Hoffman was more subtle. He conveyed this slightly troubled man, but kind of acted his way through concealing itwith other more complex characteristics like controlling and patronizing tendencies
