American Beauty is quite simply one of the greatest acting performances of all time. Kevin Spacey fully embodies the mid-life crisis, while creating a ticking-bomb of which is full of wit. Magnificent!!!
American Beauty was a well scripted movie. So was usual suspects. I like house of cards as well. There are many gifted actors who could have played those parts. (read the lines well) Unfortunately for the producers, cast and others involved in the future royalties, the powers that be didn't listen to the rumors about Spacey and went with him as lead. He's the only Hollywood actor that I know of who can get into character right on the spot without a script or even practicing. I watched the video clip of him on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon reading House of Cards scripts that were written by little kids, and the guy was absolutely perfect!
To be fair, he did play a perfect role in CoD:AW. I knew I saw him from somewhere, didn't know he was such a great actor overall. After seeing his other performances, they picked the perfect actor to play Jonathan Irons.
+Alexander Peake Actually technically Lecter is Lithuanian (in the books), but it was changed for The Silence of the Lambs to fit the actor, and so could probably easily be changed to American for Kevin Spacey. But in any case, he's probably good enough of an actor to pull off a lot of accents (his knack at impersonations is good evidence).

He admitted acting inappropriately towards a 14 year old and with14 other accusers, it's a little more than something on twitter. Just because he read lines well in well written roles does not excuse him from scaring children for the rest of their lives. John Wayne Gacy played a clown for sick kids in hospitals and by all accounts, he was good as Pogo but raping and killing 33 young men and boys kinda overshadows that. As well it should.
Kristýna Poláčková If you read my post you will see I never actually equated the two. I was using hyperbole. It wasn't a just 14 year old rape as you say, to date the number has topped 30. His molestation should not be overlooked because he can read scrips well. brzy na slyšenou
Kevin Spacey is simply brilliant ! :) My favorite roles he did was in American Beauty, The Usual Suspects, A Time To Kill , Se7en, Pay it Forward, The Negotiator, LA Confidential and House of Cards .
Francis Underwood was the role that really turned me on to Kevin Spacey. Most of his most famous roles were when I was too young to watch his movies, so I wasn’t too familiar with him. So glad he was cast on House of Cards before being exposed. The last season was NOT the same without him.
He is one of those rare people (much like Robert Downey, Jr.) who can do it all. Genius, gifted, and talents in so many areas I don't know how he decides what to do next. The first role I saw him in was as a psychopath in the TV series "Wiseguy" He was only in a few episodes, probably less than ten, but he was spectacular! I watched for him after that and haven't been disappointed yet. I wish I could see him live, especially if in a musical so I can watch him sing!
I love K-Pax. To this day, I am still uncertain whether or not his character was an alien living in a crazy man's body until he could travel home, or a crazy man who thought he was an alien who could predict future events - had knowledge of the universe that made astronomers stand in awe - and predicted his death to the millisecond. The part of the movie where he's remembering stumbling on the murder/rape of his wife and daughter made me so sad that I became nauseous.
I agree with you, that movie was an intense roller emotional coaster, one thing for sure it made you think and question. after all what caused the electrical effects?, The ending is so sad, that we the viewer wishes he was an Alien, we wish he was from K=Pax, because the reality is sick. so in essence we are put into his shoes.
I am with you, as well. I am positive that the movie suggests he *was* an alien. Don't forget he took the girl with him back to K-Pax and left the traumatized guy behind. The concept is complicated and masterfully given. To me, this is the No 1. A great actor and an exemplary performance in a story that needed great mastery to be given right.
i think that he was more of a guardian angel because he said he looked over Prot and only came when he was needed and i think when he says K-PAX hes referring to heaven
I believe that Prot was an alien entity that used the body of Robert Porter to enter a human form. When he went back to K-PAX he left the body behind. The person we're seeing at the end is the real Robert Porter. He's brain damaged and non-responsive as a result of his drowning incident.
Kevin can do it all!!! So freakin talented... brilliant actor, awesome in impersonations and more than a decent singer as well. I wonder, is there anything he can't do? I put him in 2nd place(alongside Hanks and Sean Penn) for best actor of our generation(that excludes Pacino/De Niro/Nicholson/Hoffman etc). No.1 is Day Lewis!
Joshua Osborne ....very true American Beauty did basically put Kevin Spacy on the MAP but he has had so many great characters over the years pinning them down into a top ten list would be a hard pressed task . Although American Beauty is #1 and it is a GREAT movie I was MORE IMPRESSED with Pay it Forward tied with The Negotiator ....excellent actor and brilliant performances !!!!
There are so many great performances by Kevin Spacey but the one most often overlooked is his early breakout performance as Mel Profit in the second season of "Wiseguy" starring Ken Wahl written by Stephen J. Cannell and co-staring as his Sister in Crime Joan Severance, he stole the show, he made it look easy just like Brando, he leapt off the screen at you, the first time I saw him I thought this guy will go far.
The Usual Suspects is really his best performance. On my first watch I felt something was not right with the way the character was acting at certain moments, but those moments were extremely subtle and incredibly well executed by Spacey. It's the definition of a layered performance.
Cooper Schlickau Just cause he was a pedophile, doesn’t change the fact he was a class A actor, Hemingway was an abusive drunk, doesn’t deter his writing ability
I know! The hypnosis scene made me cry :(. While American Beauty is an overall better film, his role in K-Pax was much more complex, and a much better performance
Zaptagious Although I haven't seen all of his movies yet, K-PAX should be not only in top 10 but at least in top 3! I can't decide which is better: the acting of Spacey or the film (this is my favorite movie in overall! :) )
The first time I saw Spacey was in a made for TV movie about Rev. Jim, and Tammy Faye Baker. I said to myself, who the hell is this guy!? He's awesome! I've been a fan ever since.
+Ryan Jensen His performance in AB was great, but the entire movie was done very well, from the individual actors' performances, to the understated music, and even to the irony that the only couple in a "healthy" relationship was the gay couple. That last isn't remarkable today, but it was pretty notable when the movie came out.
he looked amazing in the new call of duty trailer, though thats not a movie its a game (im not saying that the game itself is good, itll probably just be like every other cod game, just the cinematic cutscenes and trailer)
The third time Kevin Spacey ever appeared on TV was 1988 in a crime series called Wise Guy. He was the arch villain Mel Profitt, and he had a major role over 7 episodes. Brilliant bravura performance, absolutely deserves to be in the top 10. By the way, Wise Guy was brilliantly cast, with a young Jonathan Banks (Mike from Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul) as Ken Wahl's superior officer, Jerry Lewis in his first dramatic TV role, Deborah Harry and Glenn Frey excellent in major acting roles, Stanley Tucci in one of his first roles, and many others.
K-Pax Should have been on this top ten list.He is amazing in everything.American beauty was a fantastic movie and his performance was riveting.I haven't seen a lot of these movies but I'm going to see them really soon. They look fascinating. Spacey is once again, worth watching the movie for his performance alone.
Frank Underwood without a doubt is his best role. He's so real in it that it's unreal.
Frank Underwood was greatly enacted
It was just a US knockoff of a classic British series. The original is better. Spacey is good but he is better in all his good movies.
Great actor but nasty man, surely not the only one.
He was AMAZING in LA Confidential, just PERFECT.
And in Usual Suspects.
And in American Beauty.
All these are a testament to how great an actor he is.
Accent was sadly over the top & not at all like a South Carolinian, but the role & his acting otherwise was as usual; amazing.

Just because he read lines well in well written roles does not excuse him from scaring children for the rest of their lives. John Wayne Gacy played a clown for sick kids in hospitals and by all accounts, he was good as Pogo but raping and killing 33 young men and boys kinda overshadows that. As well it should.
Opravdu myslíš vážně přirovnávání "nevhodného chování" před čtrnáctiletým ke znásilnění a vraždě 33 lidí?
Kristýna Poláčková If you read my post you will see I never actually equated the two. I was using hyperbole. It wasn't a just 14 year old rape as you say, to date the number has topped 30. His molestation should not be overlooked because he can read scrips well.
brzy na slyšenou
I dont want to throw my copy of seven in The trash :(
I love his work still AND it takes a ton of folks to make a movie/show...why should they be punished too? He is undeniably brilliant.
Great actor, great singer, funny as hell.
The talent that this guy withholds is phenomenal
The Usual Suspects was an amazing movie
so true
Haha Philip fanboy
No way, I like it, I own it on dvd but it isn't amazing, it's not even great. It's just 'pretty good'.
With everything that is happening to him... he is still a great actor.

Exactly
Kevin Spacey is simply brilliant ! :) My favorite roles he did was in American Beauty, The Usual Suspects, A Time To Kill , Se7en, Pay it Forward, The Negotiator, LA Confidential and House of Cards .
one of my favorite actors of all time EASY
Francis Underwood was the role that really turned me on to Kevin Spacey. Most of his most famous roles were when I was too young to watch his movies, so I wasn’t too familiar with him. So glad he was cast on House of Cards before being exposed. The last season was NOT the same without him.
I love Frank Underwood ..he plays that role phenomenally
Kevin Spacey's probably my favourite actor, or at least one of them. Especially loved him in American Beauty and Se7en
Huge Fan Of Kevin Spacey Big Time Love Him!
Vince Niederman still are now?
His best performance is his real life personality. Such a good performance no one questioned it for more than 20 years.
I find Spacey to be the most intriguing and amongst the best actors working today.
now this guy is unemployed
He is one of those rare people (much like Robert Downey, Jr.) who can do it all. Genius, gifted, and talents in so many areas I don't know how he decides what to do next. The first role I saw him in was as a psychopath in the TV series "Wiseguy" He was only in a few episodes, probably less than ten, but he was spectacular! I watched for him after that and haven't been disappointed yet. I wish I could see him live, especially if in a musical so I can watch him sing!
And a pedophile too! Truly a rare person.
Kpax for the win im mean he ate a WHOLE banana peel and all
Comment of the day for June 17.
gamersamurai4 nothing compared to Min-Sik Choi in the '03 version of Oldboy
kpax of course
+Edward Olive he ate a live squid, right?
yea that was a funny scene. great movie too :)
I agree with you, that movie was an intense roller emotional coaster, one thing for sure it made you think and question. after all what caused the electrical effects?,
The ending is so sad, that we the viewer wishes he was an Alien, we wish he was from K=Pax, because the reality is sick. so in essence we are put into his shoes.
Right, 1 movie i forgot to my top 3.
I love him in "Margin call" I work in finance And he completly understood the character. This film almost was a documentary, characters were so real.
I've only just started watching House of Cards and I'm blown away by his performance! ❤️
1)American Beauty
2)House Of Cards
3)The Usual Suspects
4)L.A Confidential
5)The Ref
6)Se7en
7)Beyond The Sea
8)The Negotiator
9)K-Pax
10)Swimming With Sharks
Would have liked to see house of cards number 1, but good list.
Was thinking the exact same thing.
C'mon american beauty made him. Everyone knows him for that role...
Bullshit, American Beauty didn't make him, Se7en all the way.
Well I got introduced to him through House of Cards. So he'll always be my favorite politician.
OMG I looooovee Kevin Spacey and had no idea that you had this video.... and the release date is just 2 days before my bday....
Best list! I'm going to watch what I've missed.
I loved him in The Negotiator.
My personal favorite performance was hopper from A Bugs Life. I should probably see more movies with this guy.
You should Spacey is amazing.
Alex Ryan Just from watching the clips from this countdown, I believe you.
Pay it Forward is Top 5 ! I mean it undeniable how incredible that movie is!!!! The ending tore my heart out!!!!
I'm *so* glad that they included The Ref! I have loved that movie ever since I was 13 - in my opinion it's one of the most underrated comedies ever :)
He is so underrated. one of the top 10 actors no doubt.
I love that man like sharks love blood.
The Usual Suspects is really his best performance. On my first watch I felt something was not right with the way the character was acting at certain moments, but those moments were extremely subtle and incredibly well executed by Spacey. It's the definition of a layered performance.
John Doe from 'Seven' is one of the greatest movie villains ever in cinema! And he appears onscreen for maybe a few minutes..
I don't know if it's my favorite, but his performance in "21" was amazing!
Indeed a great movie as well
American beauty is one of my favourite movies
Choosing a favorite Spacey performance is like choosing a favorite chocolate...they're all good!
Why is his voice so attractive...????
I know right? I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks that.
+Oceana Pos same *-*
One of my favourite actor..luv him..
Love Kevin Spacey, one of my all time favorite movies is The Ref.
I have to say, he was spectacular in LA Confidential
I like the Usual Suspects. It is a brilliant movie. One of the best of all time. The plot twist works so well because of Spacey's performance.
SPACEY IS AN AWESOME ACTOR!
Yup. American Beauty was EPIC and I love some Spacey. He may be the best impressions actor ever! Love that man and truly hope he lives forever!
Best actor of my generation 😍
One of the best actors around, up there with Gary Oldman, Daniel Day-Lewis, and such.
ComandanteJ you sure now?
Cooper Schlickau Just cause he was a pedophile, doesn’t change the fact he was a class A actor, Hemingway was an abusive drunk, doesn’t deter his writing ability
The best actor I've ever seen ❤️
K-Pax only honorable mention? :(
His role as Mel Profitt in “Wiseguys” was also great
American Beauty
Number 1 is American Beauty.
How could it possibly any other movie.
It's not a movie but it is a performance. The only thing is, it's only trailer as of now.
If he narrated through the game like bruce cambell did for spiderman 1 & 2, id pre order it
I love his acting, especially the cop role of his acting movies. For me his the best.
I love Kevin Spacey. He can play any role, and I don't care about what he was accused of.He is a fantastic actor and seems like a very nice man.
Kevin Spacey is a Good Actor and Glad He Wasn’t Found Guilty
Can't believe you didn't include The Big Kahuna. Criminally underrated movie.
If it's criminally under-rated it's probably pretty easy to believe they didn't include it haha.
The toes knows
One of the videos from this channel that actually has an overwhelming positive rating...
I got a Kevin Spacey MasterClass ad before this vid. It's amazing.
Who's watching after late October, 2017??
Me :(
Yea.
pcFOREVER89100 me
He practically admitted abusing someone in his tweet and several actors knew he wasn't right.
Me 😂🤣
