I saw Mr. Hoffman a few days before he passed. I was having coffee are a shop in Atlanta. He entered the coffeeshop with what appeared to be a script in his hand. He purchased a cup of coffee and appeared to study a script. As I was leaving I stopped by his table and told him how much I enjoyed his work. He was very pleasant. I remember he looked so very sad, almost looking as if he was on the verge of tears. I'll never forget how sad he looked.

Addiction mixed in with loneliness is a bad mix. Loneliness can be an intense feeling to feel and deal with especially during separation or a divorce. Daytime everything is great because the day is fulfilled and busy. Come night time after kids and the day came down then it's just you, even though people are in the next room, that feeling is intense. A constant pressure on ones chest and being inside a box closing in on you and it's hard to reach out to talk about it. Drugs will numb that feeling for some.
@@MAA77723 I understand the loneliness part and it weighs heavy on the heart. I've never experienced drug addiction before but have plenty of friends who had to battle this disease and I can only imagine the toll of addiction and loneliness combined together. It could almost be seen as no way out. Loneliness is as bad for me as it was to deal with at first but now combined with shelter in place sux. My days are busy but come night after kids go to bed and things settle down then it's just me. That's when it sinks in. Happy during the day😁, miserable at night. 😒 In time it'll get better, hopefully but I wish for the best dealing with both and if anyone feels this way, I urge them to reach out to someone, anyone who'll listen because sometimes having someone else listening can help out a lot.
It's good to sit with pain let it wash over you live with it accept it will come and go throughout your life never give in to drugs they become worse than the original pain and twice as hard to overcome and that applies to all drugs prescribed or street drugs Getting old helps pain feel less intense getting old and putting others needs before your own especially your childrens. Parents dying young by their own behaviour leave a terrible legacy . Always put your children first every addict I've met and I've known many have huge capacity for self pity .
Yes, that entrance is legendary. PSH gives you everything you need to know about Freddie Miles in under one minute. He was an astonishing actor whom I loved. It breaks my heart to think he suffered under such depression.
I'm really glad you posted this. I'm outside the U.S. so didn't really get the aftermath. I always blamed the doctor who prescribed opioids after his on set injury the previous year, but obviously that doesn't really tell the story. I took his death hard for some reason. Thank you.
Interesting. You followed the story. Because, he was so high profile. There might be a response. I only just found out about this and. I remember seeing this actor at the movies.
I REALLY liked that video... Phillip Seymour Hoffman was one of the greatest actors we've ever had the privilege of having. I for one was amazed and inspired.
@Lisa Surlie Junkie. Therefore,. Not worthy. Interesting. Your comment makes we of depth and humility sad. Judgemental, Projecting, Resentful, immature. 🙄
Seeing stories like his gave me hope and then he died and it scared the hell out of me. Being a recovering heroin addict myself I know I have to be very careful because all it takes is 1 relapse and POOF!! I'm gone. I pray that God helps me stay sober and live a long, successful life, although I do honest to God feel like I won't live a long life. But, it's all in God's hands. RIP Phillip Seymour Hoffman
We cant ever go back . we've lived before addiction, suffered thorugh addiction, and recovery 2nd chance at life we know we cant go back. Live for the now and do the right things be happy as possiable . god bless
Daniel, Hopefully you gave your life to Christ. If you did, and you spend time in His presence and in His Word, you'll make it! God set me free from prescription drugs, over 10 years ago. God can and is willing to do the same thing for you, without the fear of a relapse. Whenever you feel weak, cry out to God, and read a psalm or two, or whatever book i or scripture, that is your favorite. Hang on because, we're going home soon!
Dont know why but I was thinking of him today. His raw emotions always carried his characters. Usually people who feel so much in life have to numb those feelings because they lack the tools to manage the pain of humanity on a daily basis. Its just tragic that addiction claims people I see as having the most potential for greatness. They certainly aren’t weak. You just aren’t carrying the same weight.
He was probably emotionally wounded, recently before his death and probably decades before then. I would have loved to see him do more stuff, I cannot recall a single bad performance from him, always good to excellent.
This was the first celeb death that hit me super hard. I will always love his films, I will always love him as an actor and I will always have respect him as a person. It doesn’t matter that he relapsed, he still tried to be better for himself and his family and nothing else should matter - especially to the general public.
Phillip Seymour Hoffman always came through. Never a bad performance. That is all we had any right to expect. He personal life was not ours to inspect. He is sorely missed.
Phillip Seymour Hoffman was a true artist to his craft being an actor. I loved all his movies. All characters were true to life. My favorite movie that I loved PSH In was. CAPOTE. I have seen the movie many many times. Rest In Peace. Phillip Seymour Hoffman.
a rare kind of actor that can be labelled a true artist, Synecdoche New York is the greatest movie ever made in my opinion, it's a work of art, I can't think of any other actor that could've played such a convincing part, it really is master class acting.
That movie haunts me. I can remember the smell of the air, the temperature of that night when I decided to press play on that movie. It’s burned into my mind. I’ve never had a movie do that to me.
My favourite is Arnold of Swarzenegger. He had such a range. He could play common german, american soldier, american hitman, interplanetary trophyhunter, machines, boxers. everything. The marlon brando of our time, as they say in austria.
Tone is weirdly dispassionate but I appreciate the added insight into his addiction. When a celebrity falls it can be a stark reminder that an addict / alcoholic will always be powerless no matter the length of sobriety or the heights of achievement they reach.
I knew I'd continue to miss him long after he was gone. I was so right. I miss all his work that will never be seen. I hate that he fell into the addiction trap. Saying it was a waste and a huge loss is an understatement.
I have an ex like that. He was so bad with drinking, it came to a point that I wouldn’t ride in a car with him anymore. It’s never easy watching someone do things like that to themselves.
That guy was amazing. Was a big fan. And I’m so impressed his lady never dragged the press into everything. SO many starlets (and I mean males, as well as females) try to get extra “free” press time...hoping the spotlight will further their careers. Three children? They must have had a special connection!
Cheryl Hulting exactly that movie means a lot to me. Me and my old girl watched it’s 3 or so years ago we loved it but it makes me think about her unfortunately now
One of the best actors of his generation. What Mimi O'Donnell said about addiction always lurking beneath the surface is so true. Its a lifelong battle, which the addict has to win one battle at a time. But they never win the war. What stirs the creativity in the performing life can play hell when they're trying just to live their regular lives. Hoffman really was a superb actor.
After 7 years of being clean, from time to time I still have the demons knockin to come back for a visit, I refuse to let them in.He was a great actor, but like so many of us a tormented soul, he finally found peace.
What an actor....he was....i had no idea what he was going trough his life...???!!!!! I only saw him as amazing young actor so talented...to tears....pity....RIP dear Philip.....
I was really saddened by his death. I enjoyed his movies. I was always excited when he was in a new movie. Until his death I had no idea he struggled with addiction.
In other words he was as classy a guy as we thought he was, was grappling with his demons, and eventually lost his life to them. I can think of a whole string of musicians who I could say the same about.
When a person is clean for so long then uses again, two things may happen. 1) Their system can not handle the same amount they used at the time of stopping. Some don't think of this and end up dying from an unintended overdose. 2) When a person is clean for many long years the quality or strength of drugs can drastically change and increase. This too can sadly result in unintended death by accidental overdose. I'm sharing this because I feel it's important to know that not everyone who dies from an overdose was suicidal or knowingly careless. A favorite saying I enjoy is, "Experience is what you get *after* you needed it" This can tragically be true of drug overdose and alcohol poisoning with the person sometimes having a split-second Oh Phuck moment of awareness before dying and never getting to learn and live better from the newly and briefly gained experience. For those who struggle so hard through life I hope there is a Heaven where their spirit is renewed, allowing them peace and joy not found in mortal life. 🙏 🕊 ✨😔
I think when an actor is as amazing as he was, it has to be hard taking on these roles and bring that to life...becoming that person then it ends. That has to be dark.
A one of a kind talent. I love every single role he ever did. To think about alk the things he would have done by now. ..what a loss. He will always be one of my most beloved actors. Addiction is such horrible thing...
His greatest role? Caden Cotard in Synecdoche New York. An absolute work of art, he was perfect for this role. I have more in common with the real life man than I like to admit.
I was really sad, when P.S.H. died, I have seen ( & enjoyed), every movie he had done. He seemed to have hidden layers of potential , but , I guess, that was his hiding his disease, so many of is struggle with. Blessings too his partner & his children, for the wonderful memories they shared with their dad... 💕🙅🎥📹💻
In my humble opinion the mark of a truly great actor is when you can know the actor and or cast but their performance is as such, in that one forgets said actor and becomes enamored in the character and storyline they are portraying. Phillip delivered this in every role he was cast in. An amazing talent. It’s a shame that genius and deep dark psychological problems often are conjoined twins. Both in a battle to cancel the other out. Sadly it seems the darkness gets it way more often than not. He is and will be sorely missed.
I hate it how people try to make it so dramatic and say things like "freebasing heroin" you dont freebase heroin that's cocaine or what everyone has heard smoking crack! So why put it in there just to scare the kiddies?

Then ye don't give up and something hits. Blows-up. A year or two of Bliss, then ...
you still Watched it, he`s is dead, not you buttercup
@Kris Kripotos the way you insult NEWS MEDIA like CNN , And how you unethically you insult their JOURNALISTIC INTEGRITY ! Is appalling am shocked ! First CNN is a private NEWS NETWORK you don’t pay their salaries, its not your local TV channels so you can blaming them if they don’t cover your stories ! Why don’t you become investigative journalist if you care and know better ? Do you think you need a network ? EVERY RESPECTED IJ IS INDEPENDENT SOME OF THEM DIE COVERING A STORY .
@Kris Kripotos Second & most importantly isn’t the remote control in your hand ! If you don’t like what’s on your TV change the channel , Being disrespectful PUBLICLY to an entire network of hardworking people 24/7 isn’t because the innocent children ... You just want a reason to insult them ! You know why ? Because helping those victims is not CNN job it’s YOUR CORRUPTED LEGAL SYSTEM. YOUR POLICE OFFICERS BUSY KILLING INNOCENT BLACK PEOPLE IN FRONT OF YOU... They are the responsible (if not facilitators) !!!
@Lisa Surlie you need to chill why be so hateful?
Sykotik Shadow sounds like you’ve been there.
Awesome insight and I totally agree, been there. Still am honestly. Hang in there
It's good to sit with pain let it wash over you live with it accept it will come and go throughout your life never give in to drugs they become worse than the original pain and twice as hard to overcome and that applies to all drugs prescribed or street drugs Getting old helps pain feel less intense getting old and putting others needs before your own especially your childrens. Parents dying young by their own behaviour leave a terrible legacy . Always put your children first every addict I've met and I've known many have huge capacity for self pity .
He was a damn good actor. My favorite role of his will always be Dusty from Twister.
I was going to say the same thing! I don’t care what anyone says, I LOVED Twister. I was really sad when Bill Paxton died, as well ☹️
@@susanrobinson910 You and me both, Twister remains as one of my favorite movies. And yeah.. sucks that Bill is gone as well... ☹️
kornfreak78 ....Rabbit is good! Rabbit is wise!! Love it
I love him in The Talented Mr Ripley the stoled that movie.
He's still a good actor, though now he's playing the roles of a real-life priest and the governor of the state of Minnesota.
He had the best entrance AND follow up line in The Talented Mr. Ripley EVER!
Yes, that entrance is legendary. PSH gives you everything you need to know about Freddie Miles in under one minute. He was an astonishing actor whom I loved. It breaks my heart to think he suffered under such depression.
He’s a great scene stealer
I'm really glad you posted this. I'm outside the U.S. so didn't really get the aftermath. I always blamed the doctor who prescribed opioids after his on set injury the previous year, but obviously that doesn't really tell the story. I took his death hard for some reason. Thank you.
Interesting. You followed the story. Because, he was so high profile. There might be a response.
I only just found out about this and. I remember seeing this actor at the movies.
Brandt in big labowski is his most underrated character.
Caden Cotard: hold my non-existent Oscar
That did not occur to us, dude.
Sounds like a good man who couldnt handle his demons RIP BRO
I REALLY liked that video... Phillip Seymour Hoffman was one of the greatest actors we've ever had the privilege of having. I for one was amazed and inspired.
Stop messing with Phillip Seymour Hoffman. We loved him as an actor, and his talent is what we should remember.
@Lisa Surlie Junkie. Therefore,. Not worthy. Interesting. Your comment makes we of depth and humility sad. Judgemental, Projecting, Resentful, immature. 🙄
No, we remember that he was an addict. He put needles in his veins. There you go.
One of my favorite actors of all time. He was amazing in Capote.
He was memorable in Red Dragon
Saw that too, but was really best in the big lebowski.
His performance was masterful. The film itself....
Absolute steaming pile of dogshit.
I prefer him in A scent of a woman
Seeing stories like his gave me hope and then he died and it scared the hell out of me. Being a recovering heroin addict myself I know I have to be very careful because all it takes is 1 relapse and POOF!! I'm gone. I pray that God helps me stay sober and live a long, successful life, although I do honest to God feel like I won't live a long life. But, it's all in God's hands. RIP Phillip Seymour Hoffman
Stay encouraged. Stay strong. God be with you.
Thanks guys!!! :)
@@danieljenkins8532 gratitude is the first symptom of being well.
Another talented beautiful person lost to these evil drugs!😒😒😒😞😞😞😭😭😭
Phillip Seymour Hoffman always came through. Never a bad performance. That is all we had any right to expect. He personal life was not ours to inspect. He is sorely missed.
Phillip Seymour Hoffman was a true artist to his craft being an actor. I loved all his movies. All characters were true to life. My favorite movie that I loved PSH In was. CAPOTE. I have seen the movie many many times. Rest In Peace. Phillip Seymour Hoffman.
I've always love PSH. He didn't get much praise until after his death. Dude was an amazing actor imo
a rare kind of actor that can be labelled a true artist, Synecdoche New York is the greatest movie ever made in my opinion, it's a work of art, I can't think of any other actor that could've played such a convincing part, it really is master class acting.
That movie haunts me. I can remember the smell of the air, the temperature of that night when I decided to press play on that movie. It’s burned into my mind. I’ve never had a movie do that to me.
Is truly heartbreaking that some of the most brilliant minds are so tortured internally 💔 RIP
Yes
Loved his performance in the master . Addiction is a terrible disease ✌️
He was a phenomenal actor. Definitely my favorite actor. Such a tragedy. RIP
My favourite is Arnold of Swarzenegger. He had such a range. He could play common german, american soldier, american hitman, interplanetary trophyhunter, machines, boxers. everything. The marlon brando of our time, as they say in austria.
@Ross Rain You do not like Arnold as an actor supreme?
@Ross Rain He's being sarcastic
Sorely missed
.
Tone is weirdly dispassionate but I appreciate the added insight into his addiction. When a celebrity falls it can be a stark reminder that an addict / alcoholic will always be powerless no matter the length of sobriety or the heights of achievement they reach.
Every film he was in had ‘THAT Seymour Hoffman scene”. Incredible and captivating on-screen personality.
The one where he jerks off while cold calling people?
I knew I'd continue to miss him long after he was gone. I was so right. I miss all his work that will never be seen. I hate that he fell into the addiction trap. Saying it was a waste and a huge loss is an understatement.
Who remembers him from Scent of a Woman?👨🏼🦯
Gstaad...
I do he was a kid then !!!
"I'm a fucken idiot!" ............ "See, we're not cool !"
The boy,who hides in rich daddy's tail
I have an ex like that. He was so bad with drinking, it came to a point that I wouldn’t ride in a car with him anymore. It’s never easy watching someone do things like that to themselves.
That guy was amazing. Was a big fan.
And I’m so impressed his lady never dragged the press into everything. SO many starlets (and I mean males, as well as females) try to get extra “free” press time...hoping the spotlight will further their careers. Three children? They must have had a special connection!
My favorite actor. Can't believe it's been 6 years... RIP buddy💕✨
As great as this fella was. I always felt his best was yet to come. R.I.P
He was so handsome and talented... Emotional pain is real!!!
It's AMAZING how much Philip Seymour Hoffman looks like Jim Gaffigan!!!! LOVE BOTH OF THEIR WORKS!!!!
Loved him in "Before the Devil Knows You're Dead".
Great movie. overlooked
Good film but ironic between him and the character.
@Guiltysimpsonboxing I bought that film years ago when Hollywood video was selling their stock as they were closing. 😖
Great movie!
Sidney Lumet.
Truly missed. Sincerely honored ❤️❤️ whole heartedly loved by many!
Don't do drugs kids! No matter how great you may appear to be, there are dark corners in all of us.
So sad. I used to have the biggest crush on him when he played Dusty in Twister. Addiction sucks.
He was a clean 20 years from drugs suspicion
Almost Famous is probably one of the best movies ever made. RIP Lester
I'm glad you brought it up. I absolutely loved PSH as Lester Bangs. No one else could have done it.
Cheryl Hulting exactly that movie means a lot to me. Me and my old girl watched it’s 3 or so years ago we loved it but it makes me think about her unfortunately now
ADDICTION IS A STRUGGLE!!! MAY GOD HAVE MERCY ON HIS SOUL....
I’ll never forget him as Freddy Miles.
How’s your peepin’ Tommy ??
Tragic loss of a talented young man.
One of the best onscreen performances I've ever seen by any actor was Hoffman in 'Flawless'. He was incredible, he eclipsed DeNiro in every scene.
I re-watch it all the time, don't know why it is not mentioned more.
The Character" Scotty" that Hoffman played from Boogie Nights stood out from the rest. An Actors .actor.
I don’t know him personally but I miss him so much.
Then you need to get a real life
One of the greatest actors of all time.
I thought I was gonna watch some interesting facts about the man, rather than a gossip-like summary of someone’s private life
You thought "things that have come out since he died" was going to be interesting facts? Are you ok?
One of the best actors of his generation. What Mimi O'Donnell said about addiction always lurking beneath the surface is so true. Its a lifelong battle, which the addict has to win one battle at a time. But they never win the war. What stirs the creativity in the performing life can play hell when they're trying just to live their regular lives. Hoffman really was a superb actor.
After 7 years of being clean, from time to time I still have the demons knockin to come back for a visit, I refuse to let them in.He was a great actor, but like so many of us a tormented soul, he finally found peace.
Keep fighting and stay with us!! You have something to give or you would not have sent back!!
Congratulations
Im glad you're still living a good life x
My favorite all time actor.......RIP Phillip........When you played Capote, It wrecked me...thank you.
I miss him so much he was one of my favorites RIP
So sad he died. I enjoyed his work, and I will never forget this man. I liked him best in the "Capote". RIP
REST IN PEACE.. Awesome actor, I would've never thought.
What an actor....he was....i had no idea what he was going trough his life...???!!!!! I only saw him as amazing young actor so talented...to tears....pity....RIP dear Philip.....
He was one brilliant actor!
Stay away from drugs. If anxiety and depression hits you, take a break, pray, meditate and seek spiritual advice. Also, engage in physical activities.
Philip Seymour Hoffman was a very talented actor. I'm sorry to learn about his death.
I still can’t believe he’s dead, it takes me by surprise whenever I’m reminded
I was really saddened by his death. I enjoyed his movies. I was always excited when he was in a new movie. Until his death I had no idea he struggled with addiction.
The most fascinating man not just actor. So complex and nuanced. Such a loss. Rip Philip Hoffman.
A favorite saying I enjoy is,
"Experience is what you get *after* you needed it"
This can tragically be true of drug overdose and alcohol poisoning with the person sometimes having a split-second Oh Phuck moment of awareness before dying and never getting to learn and live better from the newly and briefly gained experience.
For every movie in which he appeared it is his enthusiastic "Dusty" in Twister (1996) that I keep going back to.
One of my favorite actors
A one of a kind talent. I love every single role he ever did. To think about alk the things he would have done by now. ..what a loss. He will always be one of my most beloved actors. Addiction is such horrible thing...
His greatest role? Caden Cotard in Synecdoche New York.
An absolute work of art, he was perfect for this role.
I have more in common with the real life man than I like to admit.
Still ( and forever) missing this great actor ❤️
He lived in a beautiful apartment building. I am still surprised how many people in that place who sold heroin.
well to do people are some of the biggest users of drugs it seems.
@@Ganbarizer cuz they can afford it
In the movie Doubt with Meryl Streep ... amazing movie, amazing acting. Also, Talented Mr. Ripley.
Always in my heart....loved him! Wish he understood how much we all cared! Saw Star Wars after he was gone....cried all the way out the theater!
A unique man and a good man. His addiction was such a terrible enemy.
