    My brother just bought one just like this and we shot it this weekend. I agree with all of your comments. Ultra reliable, smooth feeding, and good trigger pull. Knowing Ruger, there version is probably even better than the old reliable JM Marlins (before the Remlins) were. I'm glad Ruger took over Marlin, and I know they will, as always, produce a superior product. I don't think any company other than Ruger could have done this. Now I need one of these as a companion to my Marlin Guide Gun (2000) 45-70.

    I was cleaning out an abandoned home that belonged to my grandparents last year and found a Marlin 336 and a Winchester 94. Now, I have the lever action bug! I just can't find much 30-30 ammo. Anyhow, after watching this video I know now that I need a 1895 Trapper in my life. I'll be at the NRA convention this weekend in Houston, maybe they will have one I can put my hands on. Greeting from Finland and thanks for the videos, awesome stuff! Just got my trapper and of course when you live across the planet, mine was built on a monday morning. Bolt was missing the spiral flutes almost completely and buttstock jiggles no matter how much tightened. Due to unknown timeframe of spare parts delivery i had to settle with a decent price cut even though i rather had my gun as it should. Still no hard feelings just bought another new Ruger with confidence. I guess my happy ending was almost free aimpoint h2 on the beast. Thanks to you i already have couple stock improvements on my mind for the gun anyway. By the way didn’t you upload a video setting long XS rail on this gun, i cant find it anymore? Sorry for long comment, keep up the good work!

    I’m eagerly waiting for the 30-30s. I want some competition for Henry. I haven’t been able to get my hands on one and hopefully the Marlin’s will be in stock more often. As it stands the only 30-30 I’ve been able to find in a store/online is Rossi, and I just don’t know enough about them other than they are owned by Taurus. I love you videos man, have a great day.

    • @Chuck_Carolina
      @Chuck_Carolina ปีที่แล้ว

      I am interested in seeing one too, but I am afraid it will be a $900+ dollar rifle. I bought one of the late model Remlin's in 30-30 for less than $400 dollars, and it is a Dandy rifle for the money. I did feel I was taking a chance on it at the time as it cycled so rough new, but I was able to take it apart and work all that out of it. The only parts I replaced on it was the stiff loading gate with a Ranger Point Precision aluminum gate, and a rear Marble sight. In function, smoothness of operation and accuracy it is every bite a 366 Marlin (Winchester 94) that as I have ever shot or hunted with. I am 62 years old.
      My problem with Ruger and Henry is the lack of competition - Ruger will just price their (Marlin) 336 rifles in any caliber at or above Henry Prices. Back in the day of Winchester Vs. Marlin with the old lever gun design in 30-30 they needed to keep them affordable - they both had to compete with modern rifles in modern cartridges, but back then they had an affordable niche in the market place to hunters. Today, there is no affordable market place for the 30-30 cartridge outside of a nostalgia niche. The used market is way up for lever action rifles, and Ruger and Henry can make new rifles and keep all lever rifle prices artificially high for what they are by creating a new niche. They can do it by low production numbers and higher prices. I would not hold my breath for the new Marlin rifles made by Ruger and their offerings - let alone Henry rifles.

    What red dot optic would you recommend for the Trapper?

    • @buildhuntxplore
      @buildhuntxplore  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you are going for sleek and budget minded, something like the Primary Arms RS-10 or Holosun 509 is great. I also run something like a Trijicon MRO. All three of those mount easily to a Ranger Point Rhino Rail. If you want something that is on the higher end you could get an Aimpoint T2 and use a Midwest optic cut mount to keep the optic as low as possible. Any of them would be great setups.

    Which barrel length do you prefer overall? Trapper 16" or SBL 19"?

    • @buildhuntxplore
      @buildhuntxplore  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I prefer the Trapper 16”. I like a short/handy rifle. I prefer my AR’s around 12”-13”, but that would REALLY limit capacity on here lol.

    • @timschneider5850
      @timschneider5850 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@buildhuntxplore Thanks Brian. Well I'm up in Canada, so I haven't had a lot of experience with the AR platform. I agree on 16" Marlin for sure. I have a Marlin Dark 1895 and those are 16" threaded, such a handy thumper. Added the RPP Comet break as well, tames it down nicely. Also have an 18" 1895 ABL which I like as well, just not quite as handy as the 16", also non-threaded means no muzzle break. I know Chiappa makes a 12" Ridge Runner in 45-70, but I think the Trapper & Dark models are perfect. Sweet 16 lol.

    • @buildhuntxplore
      @buildhuntxplore  ปีที่แล้ว

      Lol yep, sweet 16. One big thing with the 12", you are severely limited in capacity. I think 16" really is the best length, unless you're trying to hit 1,000 yards, lol.
