  • The British Government has made a tourism ad ahead of the 2024 election, and it’s surprisingly honest and informative.

This one's for all our friends in 🇬🇧💛
And since they have an election coming soon (it can't come soon enough tbh) I thought we'd lend a hand by reminding UK voters of some of the bullshit to expect as the election nears... and about tactical voting. It's pretty lame that UK voters have to resort to "tactical voting" - it makes me appreciate all the more the (much fairer) preferential voting system we have here in Australia, where you can actually vote for the candidate you like, without "wasting" your vote. But in lieu of such a system in the UK, I thought I'd use this HGA to remind voters there of the need to vote tactically to circumvent their munted FPTP voting system. So if you have friends and family who vote in the UK (preferably ones who don't mind some swearing) please share this HGA with them.

Means a lot to have your solidarity thanks so much.
Annoyingly the tactical choice where I live is shitlite. It really grates giving a tactical vote to them, when they've spent the last 4 years calling me an antisemite, telling me I'm not welcome, and that if I don't fawn over the dear leader and his approach with not a shred of dissent then there's the door, not to mention a load of pathetic sophist mental gymnastery over calling for a ceasefire in Gaza, a shadow health minister that wants to increase privatisation of the NHS, a shadow chancellor who wants to double down on tory austerity and is on record saying she wants to be tougher than the tories on benefits...
do I really have to vote for this bunch of miscreants?

I think of it like students in school voting for/in school elections. Lots of clique groups and many students don’t feel like they are really apart of the school system anyways. If there is any money involved or raised by the students; well…my personal experience is that it was used for only those that knew about it. Again why most students don’t feel like they are really apart of the school system.

Hello there, Slovak living in the UK. I've spent few years in London, in a not-very-posh-but-also-not-very-poor type of area. I haven't seen or heard any explosions or shootings. I've seen a group of guys kicking some guy once (which is about the same I've seen in Prague when I lived there), and I've seen few drops of blood on the street once. English people tend to heavily exaggerate problems in the UK, it's a form of displaying their wit, I think. All European countries do that, including Poland or Slovakia, but English specifically are masters of it.
London is a beautiful place with many colourful areas and historical monuments and it would be a shame to miss it just because you think it's worse than Afghanistan or Honduras. Yes, I would say it is less safe than Krakow, or Prague, or Bratislava, but traveling is about getting out of your comfort zone.
With that said, if you decide to visit the UK, I suggest to not stay just in London and travel also to some other beautiful locations (try some charming villages in Cotsworlds, or maybe Edinburgh, Chester, York, natural beauty like Lake District or Scottish Highlands, or even that wonderful train from Fort William to Mallaig)

Lately, the idea of leaving the UK has become a serious consideration for me. After stumbling upon a humorous yet brutally honest video, I've become absolutely certain that I want out. I'm utterly tired of feeling like a slave to government debt. It seems like every day, we're inching closer to resembling the United States in terms of governance, with power and wealth concentrated in the hands of a select few. Instead of holding those in power accountable, the public is stuck in a cycle of blaming each other. As a Brit, I'm well aware of the myriad problems we face and how badly we've been let down, but seeing them presented so succinctly was overwhelming. It's made me realize just how exhausted I am with our government. The video was fantastic, and I appreciate it for shedding light on the chaos we're facing.

It's actually already worse, cause PPP per capita in Slovenia is only about 5k dollars less than in the UK (55k compared to about 50k for Slovenia) which means that if you account for service and goods prices, (as PPP does and nominal GDP doesn't) an average Slovenian is doing financially almost as well as an average Brit, not a poor one!
If you add to that that not even PPP factors real estate prices, that Eastern Europe has far higher home ownership rates than the UK (which means part of the reason the UK's GDP is higher is the extra amount of people paying RENT or mortgages, cause those transactions also inflate GDP stats...), and that the price of real estate there is at most a quarter of the one in the UK... well, honestly, the UK might already be worse off than the richest countries in Eastern Europe (like Slovenia and Czechia) for working people.
Certainly not for landlords though, as those can make a whole lot more bank in the UK than anywhere in Eastern Europe!

Fantastic video! And thank you for shining a light on the absolute train wreck here. 😁

As someone who lived in the UK since 2010, its honestly crazy how the government has been ruining the economy for personal gain. Everything in this video is true and just a scratch of the true extent. The homelessness problem is so big, in a city like Manchester there are homeless people begging outside every supermarket and little corner shop - if you walk outside at night there are massess of sleeping bags under buildings.
