    Harry Nilsson was such a unique talent...with a great sense of humor. After 50years, almost everyone who heard it smiled when they heard "Coconut".

    Can't begin to tell you how huge Harry was. He was friends with Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, The Beatles, pretty much everyone who was anyone at the time. Many of them preferred to stay in his flat (apartment) when in London instead of hotels since it was lesser known to the media and far more private. This song was incredibly popular, but don't twist your noodle. It's not intended to be taken seriously. Just a little nonsense song to brighten people's day

      They were good friends and various members of The Beatles were known to stay overnight in his flat, get high and jam together into the wee hours. What I would give to hear recordings of those sessions. Them, Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, Jim Morrison, Eric Clapton, you name it. They pretty much all stayed with him at one time or another. If anyone could find even a single that could be authenticated, it would be worth a fortune

    People always debate what was the best decade for music. The 1970s win hands down because there were multitudes of different types of music within its 10 years. Rock, Pop, Disco, Talking, Classical, Dance, Reggae, Top 40, FM Album Rock and so many more.

    For something a little different from Mr. Harry Nilsson, try "Jump Into The Fire", from the same album, "Nilsson Schmilsson". The song has a massive Bass solo provided by Herbie Flowers.

    Loved your reaction to this song. It makes me want to dance, too. In 1971 when this song was released it was on the radio constantly and was so much fun to sing and dance to. Today it eould be called a smash hit and it deserved to be. So much fun and silliness in under three minutes. Thank you for sharing this song and your reaction with us. It is such a vibe and you did it justice. Peace.

    I think I remember a TV commercial about 7UP or Coca Cola that kinda used this song as a model. Now that I think of it, it was 7UP. The deep voiced Jamaican would talk about the "un cola nut". then laugh like a Bond villain. Here it is, I found it. th-cam.com/video/AXmc7DG4uu8/w-d-xo.html

    • @slkinia
      @slkinia 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Coca-Cola also did an ad using this song. The verse was "Put the lime in the Coke, you nut!"
      Right here: th-cam.com/video/cB4V860YojE/w-d-xo.html
      Diet Coke with lime is the only Diet cola I can stand (except for Diet Dr. Pepper). The diet Coke with lime tastes like it has a touch of rum in it. You don't even need to add rum.

    Sweet! I was five years old when this song dropped. It was sufficiently novel to attract the attention of children. Also check out Manu Dibango's "Coconut". It's a different song from that same era with a groovy instrumental ala Santana but with flutes in place of guitar solos.

    Some songs really do not have a meeting. They’re purely for entertainment and not for conveying messages or deep philosophy. Some songs are purely to make you happy even if it’s silly and nonsensical.
    Since music does not follow the rules of grammar, it doesn’t have to make sense. Words can be purposely mispronounced or syllables added or subtracted.
    Who’s this song that doesn’t make sense : one eyed one horn flying purple people either.
    Itsy bitsy teeny weeny yellow polkadot bikini
    Monster mash
    These are just a few silly novelty nonsense songs.
