Imagine trying to get random casual gamer to play Tarkov. And while I don't think Marathon will be as punishing as Tarkov, it is a genre that the majority of the gaming scene won't really enjoy. Its no Overwatch, its no Call of Duty, not even comparable to Destiny.
@saithvenomdrone Yeah, I'm just not sure there's a big enough market for Marathon. Although if anyone can push this genre it's Bungie. I doubt I'll be trying it though, I pk'd in the wilderness back in runescape in 2007, I'm not a fan of losing my stuff. But I don't like battle royale games or extraction shooters at all so this game just isn't for me. Hopefully they keep investing heavily into D2, that's what I care about.

I love that Bungie started this back when extraction shooters were cool and new, and now they're stuck with a dead genre that has maybe like 10k people playing worldwide.
they replied to comments on the youtube video said it’s more like classes where there’s a starting template instead of heroes with designated abilities
Really?😅 Did I miss something in the video where he said that? From what I noticed he basically said everything is still rudimentary and a lot of concepts are still in the works, no where near a polished product.
you can do a LOT with unfinished models, all games do if you wait till the finale model is done just wasting soooo much time shooting a gun doesn't need that how does how it look effect how it shoots and damage. Stuff like that things can be done then switch out the dodo modles for good ones
They are gambling the future of Bungie on a game that nobody asked for. They took a great FPS and are changing it into a hero based shooter that nobody is interested in. Saying "it's not for everyone" is not reassuring.
@Pajemmy I disagree, when I heard the devs of Halo and Call of Duty were making a game I was hooked on that idea. Again another argument could be made at the ups and down that's game has had with keeping its player base. We already have an abundance of hero shooters and extraction shooters. Taking a former FPS and changing into an extraction shooter is not a smart idea
no matter the controversy, bungie has always been an absolutely amazing studio at creating content, music and have a great marketing team. Marathon isn't a hero-based shooter and this is literally confirmed by leaks and testers.
of COURSE their environment design is coming in quickly. This has ALWAYS been Bungies bread and butter. Level design, Sky boxes, buildings, caves... they have always been good at that.

I don't want to sound like too much an ass because I'm my kid likes warframe but in all seriousness, it's a really confused game. It's story is ridiculous, and the gameplay makes me feel like the developers to this day have no idea what game they're even making.
I'm not really seeing a major update on the game here and at this point we should be seeing gameplay from the game somewhat often now for a 2025 release date in my opinion.
Definitely preferred the character models from the original teaser. It looked odd, futuristic and refreshing. These characters look kinda cliche (though the Stealth character still looked cool). Reserving judgement but even more skeptical now than before.

Sad part is, it likely is going to release like Destiny and then they'll cry they didnt have resources, they didn't have "time", they didn't have this or that. So I am a destiny vet, played since day 1, done all raids and have put well over 10k hours into this franchise. I have seen every expansion (and D2) release for every year, final shape is the last purchase for me. But I am also an avid extraction shooter player, 4k hours in Tarkov and another thousand or so spread across nearly every other entry into the genre (hunt, dmz, the cycle even zero sievert) so I feel I am at least a bit more clued up on what to expect than your average destiny only player. I am excited for Marathon and while I don't have super high hopes for Bungie out of the gate because lets face it, nothing they have made in the past 10 years has been good out of the gate, I still feel that with a push in the right directions after release they could have a contender for a popular entry into the genre. But we also have another extraction shooter coming next year that is going to be sci fi called Arc Raiders and I recently got to test that out and all I will say is - If bungie don't do something special then Arc Raiders will 100% take the spot for sci fi extraction shooter cause that shit is GOOD good.
I can't imagine why you'd release a video this improvised unless contractually obligated. Just a vague list of the parts that make up a game, each one followed by "yeah that part still needs work." What little optimism I had for the game is now gone. It reads like they're WAY behind on development.
I mean, what did we actually learn? we already knew runners were a thing in the bay concept of how they worked. I think I think we’ve really learned from other people that there are more than just the the forerunners revealed over a year ago. But the fundamental problem is I played this game 20 years ago on my school library computer . It was called the wilderness in RuneScape. And just like with RuneScape, all of these developers, trying to jerk themselves off about making a hard-core game end up making the same thing again and again a high risk low reward system that doesn’t ever encourage you to do anything but take the lowest possible which is almost always the most boring way to play
Man a lot of this sounds sadly vague and too familiar to a lot out there.and considering this is supposed to come out next year, screams way too familiar to Bungie history. But I’m sure many that remember have left. Not really any kind of update but the clucks I get by it ggs 👍🏽
Unless the gaming landscape changes for the better, I can’t see myself playing Marathon. So many games these days employ FOMO and I just can’t invest so little time into so many games.
This game came come out anytime ahead or past the launch of GTA 6 if they want it to sell well. Ideally, it will launch 3-6 months before or after GTA 6 to ensure it does the revenue Sony expects.
I wouldn’t say that. Sony spent $3 billion to acquire Bungie, so they def want Marathon to do well revenue wise. I will say, that if Marathon falls short of Sony’s expectation financially, they’ll make up for it with the success of GTA 6 and how much it’ll push PS5/Pro hardware sales and PSN subs.
They showed nothing. No new concept art, no images of pre-alpha gameplay or environments. Very much gives me, "We had to scrap the majority of the game, and start over" vibes.
All the community wanted was more attention to PvP in Destiny 2. Could’ve done a Season of the Crucible (or whatever) just to emphasize the focus on PvP. But okay, Bungo.
Why even bother putting this out? If anything i feel like we have the same if not more questions. And the same if not less interest. Also, what’s with all these legacy studios and making a game for 5 years just to start over a year out
I loved camping extraction points in the Dark Zone, the Division. Stealing peoples loot (sometimes came up on free exotics). Then to be chased by an entire lobby while being on a man hunt. Fun times. Hoping Marathon has the same style extraction.
I'm just waiting till I hear or see something that really separates this from other extraction shooters because imo they hit a wall in replayability faster than most games usually being held up by gun play.
For me, an extraction shooter has to have meaningful loot and a fleshed out economy system to give that loot its meaning which most fail at horribly. The stakes are typically entirely too low. Tarkov is still the only one to really nail down this concept imo and I cant even play it bc console lol
@@Subsistence69 Nah Hunt is goated if you play with friends. Genuinely one of the best multiplayer experiences ever and loot is meaningless there. It is just cool to shot cowboys and zombies with old guns

Isn’t Marathon sounding more and more like Call of Duty’s DMZ game mode, open world map, bounties and other contracts, PVP and PVE all in the same map - DMZ was an acquired taste but could be exceptional or downright nasty depending on what you went in to achieve - no 1 was stay alive.
#Based and I agree 💯. Taking talked to many people who played the tech demo Bungie had. (The Tarkov creators) I was told, in no uncertain terms, that Marathon is garbage. Destiny players won't want to play it and Tarkov/Delta Force players won't like the unrealistic and fantasy elements.

If you think they will handle Marathon any better than D2, the game you've left, you should be more cautious.
the whole point of games like these is that the loot has intrinsic value because you can lose it.... it adds a level of tension that games like destiny couldnt provide.
And that's why alot don't play them. The safer bet would have been to make marathon a 3rd person shooter with a br in a separate mode. They then can sell you all the prime loot boxes you could ever want. They could even have a crossover event where you play as destiny characters.
I hope those who still love Bungie get the best of it. But I left Destiny 2 awhile back, and Bungie to me sort of faded like Bioware, Bethesda, and Blizzard did. I have zero enthusiasm for their news and releases. But I always realize these companies are not even the same people that I fell in love with anyways. All the OG staff are gone.

Im one of the few that still seems to be very, very excited for Marathon, but this was a HORRIBLE update. Not only were we told almost nothing new, but the entire thing was directionless rambling. If this was an attempt at damage control for the rumors, they have only proved them right.
Genuine question of, why are you excited for it? With how bungie treats alot of its games this one will likely not be very different even if it's a new genre of game for them
@firejt While destiny has a lot of core issues, specifically with die-hard fans, its surface level gameplay is extremely addicting and enjoyable. That's why there are so many fans. I believe that Bungie is capable of producing another fun game, so I'm hoping Marathon lives up to even half of that. Recently, some of that hope has been dying, but I'm still somewhat excited.
This game is gonna fail so bad and I'm looking forward to watch that unfold. Also, look at his body language and his tone... he knows this game is gonna fail and is just trying to damage control at this point. Mark my words.
With so little known about the game so far I currently am thinking of it as like Warzone but with classes like Dark and Darker or Hunt, or even simply a classic Tarkov or Warzone world but with Destiny class powers. Theif and Stealth overlap with the ideas I would have been thinking of though as they are just code names Theif could be more like a ranger style of class with a short range focus and Stealth could be more like a rogue, or they both could be like rogues but in different ways. Theif could even be similar to Rogue from Dark and Darker and let you pickpocket people and open locks easier or without tools. Though we really will have no idea until they start showing us more, but they are keeping everything a close secret. Which could be a good thing or a bad thing. It is not creating any kind of crazy hype (good or bad) that could create bad expectations for the game. What I would like to see as far as a time to kill goes for this game is very fast time to kills save for obvious armor/shields. Meaning in both PvE and PvP situations most things are 1 or 2 tappable (depending on the weapon) but damage can be reduced by breakable armor or shields sort of like the armor in Warzone or Apex. There does not have to be some kind of indicator you broke their armor or shields unless it makes the fights more engaging. I just dont want to see crazy bullet sponges everywhere that take 20 to 40 shots to kill unless it is some obvious huge armored monster or some clearly tanked out armor clad player. Though it needs to be obvious that you are going to have to shoot everything you got at something before you engage so you know if you should just avoid it or not. This would also mean I dont want to see weapons with huge scaling from the same weapon. Like no "grey" smg that does 5 dmg per shot but then an "orange/legendary" of the smg that does 25 dmg per shot, but rather say all SMGs do 5 or 10 damage per shot but higher grade versions have armor piercing values or shield breaking values or some kind of status effect thing added on to them to make them better choices against better geared players or stronger monsters, but at the same time giving lower geared players a chance as the damage amounts are the same rather then the under geared player getting two tapped by anyone with some gear and having to hit the geared player 30 times to take them down. Like the higher tier weapons would not necessarily have a huge advantage against a lower geared player but would help against higher geared players. For example if an smg did 10 damage and everyone had 100 hp but armor soaked a value until it cracked then a unarmored player (either due to lack of gear or using some kind of quiet/speed build) would take 10 hits to kill and the player with 100 armor would take 20 to kill unless the weapon had say 10 armor shredding which would bring it back down to 10 shots to kill, but if they had shields you would need shield disruption and armor shredding would not help. The point here really is more to avoid just using higher damage to get though armor meaning a base SMG of 10 damage taking 10 hits to kill an unarmored player but a legendary SMG doing 60 damage to break armor/shields faster would make that unarmored player die in 2 shots. Of course if there are no tired weapons like grey, green, blue, purple, orange and so on and each weapon just has its level of damage it does but with different levels of armor/ shield penetration and rates of fire then that takes care of that power creep problem too. It is easy to mess up TTK in a PvEvP game. I also hope long range is a viable option as with both Tarkov and DayZ I used to always get myself set up somewhere, snipe a couple of people, reposition, check if anyone was looting my kills and take them out if so, then work my way to my kills to loot them before either extracting in the case of Tarkov or setting up in another spot and doing it again in DayZ. Yes I am a filthy camper. That would require open areas and verticality though so if it is a lot of indoor areas or areas with lots of cover then that would force me down into it and my short range game is not as good as it used to be now that I am past my twitch game play prime and reaction speeds are slower. Being that it is Bungy I trust they can make it "feel" good to play (movement and abilities and such) but the question will be will it hold my attention and be fun to play. Also will it feel good to play solo or will it only be good if you are playing with others as I find it hard to get my friends to play a new game, or if I do get them to play they dont play as much as I do either due to work or because they are also playing other games with other people as well, and I tend to fixate on one game at a time. I dont see 2025 unless maybe around November. More likely early 2026 if not later.
Smart on a business side bringing a looter extractor to consoles for casual gamers similar to Escape from Tarkov that's big on pc. Reminds me of battle royale games being really big on pc. Then Fortnite released the first battle royale on console and look how much people wanted it

No need to look for announcements on this game, nor will I care if I see the name. I was more excited to see the information on Destiny Rising and I don't play mobile games either. It just looked like a nice offshoot of Destiny PC/Gaming console game (pun intended)
They drifted away from Destiny for this? Their time would have far better spent investing into their Destiny "cash cow" and expanding that universe. I swear, never underestimate Bungie's ability to throw away an easy advantage.

I’m surprised by the amount of comments that would prefer the silksong approach, no announcements, no updates, just radio silence for years. Truly genius marketing.
Why do they insist on making things no one asked for? Maybe for the pvp'ers they may like it, but even then a lot of the d2 community will not play this out of spite, and others are already hooked on their own games
Don't think they're making this for the D2 community. I imagine they are looking to draw in a whole new crowd from a whole new market, even if there is some overlap. And the "no one asked for this" sentiment is kinda old. We've seen Bungo is a very data driven company so despite cancelling alot of other projects after the layoffs I imagine the data still supports this project.

will say can change out models and systems can work with placeholder ones but ya people forget games can be delayed it seems it def will be or just EA next year
The fact there still isn't any gameplay shown and they are just dropping stuff on twitter and nowhere else says a lot about their confidence.
Joe Ziegler took notes from Joe Blackburn and got in front of a camera
And fucked it up
I like that right off the bat, he says it's not for everyone and that way ppl don't go in w insane expectations
Imagine trying to get random casual gamer to play Tarkov. And while I don't think Marathon will be as punishing as Tarkov, it is a genre that the majority of the gaming scene won't really enjoy. Its no Overwatch, its no Call of Duty, not even comparable to Destiny.
Insane expectations? In the Destiny 2 community? Naaaah, no way that will happen.
This game has the lowest expectations I've ever seen.
And then talks about how early play testers said the game sucked lmao
@saithvenomdrone Yeah, I'm just not sure there's a big enough market for Marathon. Although if anyone can push this genre it's Bungie. I doubt I'll be trying it though, I pk'd in the wilderness back in runescape in 2007, I'm not a fan of losing my stuff.
But I don't like battle royale games or extraction shooters at all so this game just isn't for me. Hopefully they keep investing heavily into D2, that's what I care about.
That was a lot of words to say, "We're still in the development phase."
The way cross was side eyeing the part where he said they got feedback that "this sucks" makes me feel like cross has playtested this lol. I'm convinced actually, but at least he knows someone who has and got a inside scoop.
That at this point they refuse to show gameplay is the biggest red flag for me.
I love that Bungie started this back when extraction shooters were cool and new, and now they're stuck with a dead genre that has maybe like 10k people playing worldwide.
they replied to comments on the youtube video said it’s more like classes where there’s a starting template instead of heroes with designated abilities
Right, so.. heroes with less identity.
@@MrInsiipid no, its more like classes....jfc

this is entirely wrong as the game is being revealed in like 2 months
Saying "it's not for everyone" is not reassuring.
bro no one asked for destiny either and look at it
@Pajemmy I disagree, when I heard the devs of Halo and Call of Duty were making a game I was hooked on that idea.
What the hell was this? What was the point? We got no actual update and I'm even more uninterested now

Level design yes
Open world design? Absolutely not. See: patrol spaces.
A game that was "shaped with the help of content creators" sounds like a game just for those content creators... That's rough.
That was a lot of 343 strategy for halo four and five. Really looking into streamers and e sport players wanted

Its kinda wild its still in the early stages at all tbh. Originally slated for a 2025 release and not any gameplay or even ingame screenshots to share. Nothing but concept art for a game that has supposedly been in developement for YEARS at this point. I know game developement these days is slow but this just doesn’t inspire any confidence at all.

This aint a major update...
This is pure damage control.

Warframe :)
Seriously though kinda whack he just described a extraction shooter and nothing substantial lol
I don't want to sound like too much an ass because I'm my kid likes warframe but in all seriousness, it's a really confused game. It's story is ridiculous, and the gameplay makes me feel like the developers to this day have no idea what game they're even making.
Killing your main source of income for a game that's "not for everybody" is certainly an interesting decision.
I cannot wait for this to be doa
No thank you! Dude seems so stressed and anxious. You can hear it in his voice
Bro how long could it possibly take to make the game? Sad part is, it likely is going to release like Destiny and then they'll cry they didnt have resources, they didn't have "time", they didn't have this or that. He spoke like he's not even sure that people will have interest by time this thing releases
Comments being off is telling. From both closed alphas Marathon is chalked.
Comments were on at the start. I know I commented on it. So it sounds like they were getting torn apart in the comments so badly they turned them off.
Honestly, all I heard was “wishlist us so we can avoid a concord situation.”

This game will make Concord look like Call of Duty. It's going to bomb so hard, the crater will come out of the other side of the planet!
One can only hope as much
The writing is on the wall at this point…
This game came come out anytime ahead or past the launch of GTA 6 if they want it to sell well. Ideally, it will launch 3-6 months before or after GTA 6 to ensure it does the revenue Sony expects.
Sony 100% wants GTA 6 to tank Marathon
I wouldn’t say that. Sony spent $3 billion to acquire Bungie, so they def want Marathon to do well revenue wise. I will say, that if Marathon falls short of Sony’s expectation financially, they’ll make up for it with the success of GTA 6 and how much it’ll push PS5/Pro hardware sales and PSN subs.
Sony already started reassigning some of Bungie's staff to work on different projects for them, they aren't even waiting to see how Marathon performs.
Can wait to watch Concord 2.0 flop… no sane person is looking forward to this game… they show 2 pictures from the game and think its hype???
🤣
They showed nothing. No new concept art, no images of pre-alpha gameplay or environments. Very much gives me, "We had to scrap the majority of the game, and start over" vibes.
I imagine thief might not necessarily be involving theft so directly but might be more about being stealthy and quiet
It’s really hard to be hype for this game when it’s being made as nothing more than an investment for Bungie to be less financially reliant on D2.
Also, what’s with all these legacy studios and making a game for 5 years just to start over a year out
As a long-time Halo/Destiny player, and someone who hasn't dived into any extraction shooters I'm still very excited for this.
Marathon sounds to me like it's the next Concord. 😂
It is just cool to shot cowboys and zombies with old guns
so they abandoned destiny for a tarkov reskin?????
marathon is using an entirely different development team and also theres like 50 extraction shooter that aren't tarkov reskins. you're on hard copium homie
The fact that there’s still no gameplay tells me it’s most likely bad and they have no confidence in it
Or their game black stand out moments. It’s pretty obvious from a lot of games that there are things they put in there just to have for trailers.
i think if they do the thief like a better Dark and Darker thief then it'll be a good class. Saw some videos about it a few months ago and it was hilarious.
another day, another joe.
I have a creeping feeling that cross has played it and is doing what he did with final shape acting like he knows nothing
I don’t want to be mean but this video has the same energy of giving a presentation on a book you forgot to read
If you preorder Marathon now you get a free shader for Destiny 2 😂
Seriously?
If anyone was wondering, we're not getting those lifetime Bungie Foundation emblems until late 2024-early 2025.
The only update i want is "we canceled marathon because it was obvious there was no chance it would succeed"
Then you’re the problem with modern gaming. We need new shit and y’all just want it to fail before it even starts. It’s pathetic really.
Damn, I thought the same thing when I clicked this video 😂
#Based and I agree 💯. Taking talked to many people who played the tech demo Bungie had. (The Tarkov creators) I was told, in no uncertain terms, that Marathon is garbage.

the whole point of games like these is that the loot has intrinsic value because you can lose it.... it adds a level of tension that games like destiny couldnt provide.
And that's why alot don't play them.
The safer bet would have been to make marathon a 3rd person shooter with a br in a separate mode.

R.I.P Bungie
Right before he started this video I ended up matching up on his team in crucible, our team got destroyed by bygones and graviton, nonetheless i had fun seeing Cross in game for the first time, i was the red and black hunter dancing and crouching at him at the end of the match, good to see ya in game either way brother
@@Smiththehammer well said thank you for your input!

When H1Z1 popped off I thought at the time its crazy console gamers don't have this and company's are not clicking on. Then Fortnite released the first battle royale on console and look how much people wanted it
The way he said not for everybody had no confidence. This will go down as the game that kills destiny. But not like we have heard 1000 times. Because they took people from it for this game that will never compare for the community.
not a game type I am interested in so thanks for that clarification of what Marathon will be (in the decades ahead when it gets released). No need to look for announcements on this game, nor will I care if I see the name. I was more excited to see the information on Destiny Rising and I don't play mobile games either. It just looked like a nice offshoot of Destiny PC/Gaming console game (pun intended)

I’m surprised by the amount of comments that would prefer the silksong approach, no announcements, no updates, just radio silence for years. Truly genius marketing.
"Not for everyone" is what peeps said about concord....
