I converted my zrx1100 into a six speed by using a zzr1100 engine and transplanting the zrx head onto it. Carbs take a bit of setting up, but it completely transformed the bike. The extra gear makes all the difference. Worth the effort.
Great comparison Brian, do you know if the rings are the same? Because, as with the wrist pins the ZZR rings are £9 per set more than the ZRX! They look identical.
Not sure....,but they are different Part Numbers ZZR versus ZRX..(and different prices too as you noted..) I fitted new ZZR 12 rings onto the ZZR 12 pistons I used.. I have the old ZZR 12 rings I removed and must sometime compare with the ZRX 12 ones I have .........,however Like I said they Are different part numbers.. ......but then so are the wrist (gudgeon) pins and I used ZRX 12 gudgeon pins with my ZZR 12 pistons. (ZZR gudgeon pins are No longer available...)
Incidentally further to my investigations here.....,"other" differences became apparent after removing the rings. The Ring land positions are different on the ZZR 1200 pistons versus the ZRX 1200 pistons...(different measurements from the crown of one versus the other...)
Very interesting, Brian. Thanks for sharing 👍

The stock 6th from the ZZR is the same ratio as the stock 5th from the ZRX

Thank you Brian, I would not be surprised if the rings were the same, time will tell!
