Toei really said: *There are no Mario safety cartoons in Ba Sing Se* Reminds me of the story of Izzy's Quest for Olympic Gold, another piece of formerly lost media. For those who don't know, Izzy was the mascot of the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta who made his debut at the 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona. What exactly is Izzy, you might ask...we don't know. He's not an animal, he's not a human figure, nor is he an object. He's...something. His name is actually short for Whatizit. His debut was met with backlash, because you'd think for the CENTENNIAL Olympics, they'd pick a grand mascot...nope. So to counter this backlash, they released a video game (Izzy's Quest for the Olympic Rings on Sega Genesis and SNES) and a cartoon. For the longest time, people joked that Izzy was so laughably bad that his cartoon about his backstory became lost media. That is, until 2020 when the pandemic changed all that. A guy called James was helping his father clean out his garage where he came across a VHS of it.

I get that copyright laws are more restrictive in Japan than here, but what commercial harm could possibly come from sharing an educational video that they didn't make for profit? Why are they so intent on protecting this one film? There has to be more to the story. They must not have had the rights to animate something that appears in the background of the film, like the logo for a corporation, and they are afraid of lawsuits for the misappropriate use of a registered trademark.
I doubt is was anything like that. It could have just been a condition of using the Nintendo characters that the film would only be seen in Japanese schools, etc., and not distributed outside of Japan. They never could have imagined that people would be able to share videos on the internet when they made the contracts, so there would be no language in the contract to cover this scenario. So people either aren't allowed to share the film or aren't sure if they can and don't want to risk being sued. This kind of thing happens in America, too. It took DECADES for the 1960s Batman series to be released on Blu-Ray because they had to track down all the heirs of the rights holders and work out a deal, since home video wasn't a thing when the show was created. Before this happened, the show could be reran on TV, but they couldn't release it on home video.
Old films like this should be preserved on newer based media. Since even if the media is kept in good hands. Who can say that footage will one day just fade away and be destroyed from the use of it

People say things like “Mario galaxy has the darkest Mario story” but have you seen Mario run into a burning apartment to rescue a mother and her child
Yeah, pretty dark - it's almost like education videos are designed to scar children for life. (I've had some experiences with that first hand - I still haven't recovered.)
I could try finding a copy of Super Mario Traffic Saftey on EBay, but there are two problems. 1. I don’t have a capture card or a VHS rip software. 2. The tape is hard to find.
It's funny how it's restricted so now everyone wants to get their hands on it. It's like telling a child not to do something. They'll do the opposite. I really feel like there's a bigger reason they don't want people to watch it
As someone who has had over 20 jobs, I've seen A LOT of safety videos, and I can definitely say I would have liked them a lot better if they were cartoons with Mario
Argh, I know this frustration each time I try to get old texture CDs. I just want specific ones from ImageCels (ImageTects originally) and Marlin Studios mostly, and althought I have managed to slowly download some from abandoned torrent sites, most are unfortunately lost to time or hidden in very specific libraries around the world.

Bro the fact that mario is basically teaching kids how to live is crazy
Im not saying be gay do crime, but im not NOT saying be gay do crime
Last time, it was that bizarre live Bowser kids show, now educational anime... I wonder what the next obscure Mario paraphernalia will be 😄
Why does in the thumbnail Mario looks happy But Luigi looks so mad
2:58 Luigi looks weird without his lil eye specks
People say things like “Mario galaxy has the darkest Mario story” but have you seen Mario run into a burning apartment to rescue a mother and her child
Yeah, pretty dark - it's almost like education videos are designed to scar children for life. (I've had some experiences with that first hand - I still haven't recovered.)
It's pretty weird knowing that studio junio and toei both worked on Mario and Sonic animations :/
7:59 i can't be the only one to find the way mario is animated talking funny
Mario is Tuxedo Mask I'm screaming!
Mario & Luigi being heroes like always.
7:55
Kid almost gets ran over by truck
Mario: skill issue
I hope one day we can watch Super Mario's Traffic Safety complete OVA
“It’s not available on internet” **Plays Footage Of It**
Are you gonna talk about the time South Park invaded a Tiger Woods game on the PlayStation?
2:56
“We-a get 1 day off-a year and I spend it doing this? I’m-a too damn tired for this. Get your damn-a hands off these fireworks!”
The thumbnail made me think this video was a meme, honestly this is better
Well this anime definitely wouldn’t have helped me cross the road
Doesn't that defeat the purpose of a library?
Yeah but also the animation studios who also made season three of transformers and the Rankin bass king Kong show
How come we don’t have a fire safety outfit for Mario in Mario Odyssey?
Fun Fact:Junio Studios Also Made The Opening And Ending Cutscenes For Sonic CD (1993)
Love that tohru furuya voices Mario. AMURO, IKIMAAASU!
I could try finding a copy of Super Mario Traffic Saftey on EBay, but there are two problems.
1. I don’t have a capture card or a VHS rip software.
2. The tape is hard to find.
No joke, I would've killed to see these when I was a kid. I loved Mario when I was younger.
I love how Mario and Luigi are small, It reminds me of Mario in New Donk City, XD
Bro, you literally did all this work just to show us an old educational anime. Respect 👏
Mario as Fireman Sam
Luigi as Elvis Cridlington
Larry Koopa as Norman Price
I'm a huge fan of Gundam so I recognized Toru Furuya's voice right off the bat! Small world!
Thomas: You can't watch it.
The beginning of the video showing clips from it.
Me: Are you sure about that??!!!!
Why does Luigi have a poopstache?
7:58 the truck Mario is driving is a Mercedes-Benz Unimog. Very strange to think this wouldn't be his last time driving a Mercedes.
