Come to the Pennsylvania Northeast Prelude meet Sept. 23, there’ll be probably over 30 Preludes there.
Disagree Honda boys on 2 wheels instead of 4 own it to the the super cub.
15 year-old me in 2003: "man that thing is pretty cool!"
35 year-old me in 2023: "man that thing is pretty cool!"
Same except add seven years and “I miss my ‘89 Si now 😢”
67 year old me in 2023: Omfg Ttran778 is fu&king hot, with all his Honda love and other shit... So hot..."
17 year old me in 1988: I love the new EF Civic!! I want one so bad! It's like a little Integra...
20 year old me in 1991: I got the last EF Civic!! But Ken got an Integra...and his car is cooler than mine.
Me now: I still love my EF Civic so much, and Integras are cool, but I'm happy with my EF. lol
yup XD
My neighbor in Ft Lauderdale bought one in this exact color with a five speed manual when it was new and drove it for the rest of his life at 102 years old in 2014. I drove behind him one day a few months before and he drove as straight as a laser beam and never failed to use his directionals. He also drove as quickly as anyone in that Integra.
This was basically my first car. '86 RS Manual 5-Door. I learned stick on it - and it revved like the day it was built until 265,000 miles. I was smitten, and then went on to own nearly every generation of Integra. I've been considering selling my '16 Audi S6 and buying a K-Series NA project, and this video may have just become the catalyst for that to happen. I'm so, so happy you found this car.
Ugh, where did you go wrong? I'd rather have an innie than an outtie.
as someone who’s been working for Audi, sell the audi please, return to good vehicles again
As a German, I can say German companies do not factor in abuse or longevity like Japan and the US makers do, ( Opel used to under GM )they expect you to be diligent to not letting a single grain of sand touch the car or their " Brilliant " plastic timing chain will explode and total your engine etc.
Buy the Honda again please
I got an 06 RSX Type S if you want it 166,000 miles $5000 needs a lil work but it runs great.
Wish I could of had one of them now with a k24t conversion
dude just sneazed into his hand and proceeded to touch everything he could with it
This makes me so happy! My first car was a 1988 Acura Integra 5 speed 2 door RS. I loved that car so much. My mom gave it away to my cousin who wrapped it around a tree.
Tragic
I hope the cousin remains wrapped around the tree.
RIP that sweet ass car.
Reading comments under the automotive videos, seems like each and every car in States is ending his life on a tree or rear-ended by a Karen in suv.
Not joking.
But still, a car wich does 0-60 in more than 6.5 seconds is slow...
Learn yourself how to drive, Muricans!
Had the '90...got t-boned by a Dodge Ram (I understand the irony) 2 weeks after I got it.
The AP1 S2000's engine code is the F20C; not a K-series, but shares some engineering aspects. The AP2 has an F22C1, the non-sporty F-series engines were found in late 90s early 00's Accords and Acura CL's.
Came here to say this
🙄
love my single jingle f22a1 honda acccord sage green!
@@dyingangelo had one too was super reliable... The auto trans was that cars weakness

My father purchased a 1987 2-door one of these after I was born to replace his CRX Si. It was our family car for 10 years. He auto-crossed it, we went on road trips in it, and he used to let me row through the gear from the passenger seat as soon as I was old enough to sit up front. The first car I bought myself was a Gen3 LS, and I remember thinking how thrilled he would have been to have driven it with me if he hadn't passed the year earlier. I'd love to get my hands on one of these and drive the pants off of it :-)
I could imagine a first gen crx with this engine would have blew minds in the early 90s
You could actually get this engine in a 1985+ CR-X Si in Japan, or the aptly named CRX 1.6i-16 in Europe - we really missed out in North America!
Good ol dual cam D series ZC engine bby, it was wrecking expectations of 80s muscle since the conception
the brown top is actually a bolt in affair for the first gen crx. thats the plan for mine once the build ew5 blows
I'm pretty sure this was a very small plot point to this in the movie Menace II Society when the white guy hires the main characters to steal an all black acura
Those 80s cars man... they were something else.
I miss pop ups....
*POP UP-UP AND DOWN HEADLIIIIIGHTS*
So does everyone else, anytime I drive my prelude people always smile seeing the pop ups
You and me both. My first car had them. I've never missed it more than I do now.
I had it also.
I dont miss it.
I miss round headlights.

I had an 87 5MT Accord LXi hatch. What a wonderful car.
I had a 87 accord 5mt but it was just the LX. Had too many issues develop over a short period of time so I sold it. If it had been an LXi I probably wouldn’t of sold it. Still was a surprisingly good driving car.
I still daily an 87 Accord 5MT LXi Hatch. You have great taste.
@@Partsforscooters1 Nice! Pretty sure mine had somewhere around 150k on it when I got rid of it in like 92/93 - the clutch was nearing the end of it's life IIRC.
@@rpitneyjr I just did my clutch last year at 160k... it was actually only about half gone. I was in there doing a seal, so figured I'd just get it done. I plan to just drive it until it falls apart I think. Great fun to drive cars that really stand out now.
These are wonderful cars. Honda was so ahead of the days back then.
I tell you they don't make cars with timeless design like they used to. This car is still going to look great 30 years in the future, unlike most creations from the 2000s.
8th gen Civic Si steps into the chat..
Ted is a hero and his fondness as a boy for his father’s car (more the memories spent together I presume) makes Ted a pretty good man in my book. 🙂
I swapped D16A1 browntop from this into 1987 CRX. It was a rocket!
Had 260k miles on the motor when I sold it.
This is a nostalgia trip! My mum owned an '87 Integra like this, but it was Honda badged (Acura weren't really a thing in the UK). Key differences though, ours was min spec - windy windows, no AC, dark blue interior, black bumpers on a white body. It was reliable, however rust was already claiming it by the time we got it, with evidence of cheap body repair and mismatched rattle can paint on the hatch lid. The pop-up headlights were wicked cool though.
Sneeze onto the elbow u savage 😂
The single most beutiful car Honda has ever made, I clicked on that thumbnail with lightning speed.
3DR and 5DR g1teg owner here. the 3DRs are way more spacious for the driver in comparison to the 5DRs, however taller people still have issues with their knees hitting the steering wheel. I’m glad to see light shining on the g1 since it’s slowly dying out and becoming harder to find. it’s truly a timeless classic and you captured how perfectly nimble and ahead of its time it really was.
I have an 87. Im also 6'7. I actually fit very well in the g1 (i did get a momo steering wheel to help tho, lol)
So glad to see the Gen 1 Integra getting some love. I still occasionally drive my 87 LS 5spd 2door all original Intergra 27k original miles. In the summer of 87’ I was 16 and took my driving test in this exact car. Come see it in its first car show in Colorado Springs October 9th.
I owned two of these in the two door. Both cars got me through college and my first years working. Bought them both with over 100K on the clock and they were perfect for another 100K. Spent $1250 buying each. I miss these cars. Got amazing gas milage at 43MPG and was practical and awesome to drive.
I had an ‘86 Integra two door/red/manual. Put 150K miles on it, great car that survived my college years. Thanks for the memories.
This review really gives me joy. As a son of a retired Acura Technician that currently owns a 89 Integra LS, this a review was one that I wasn’t expecting.
Just when I thought I was going to enjoy another Regular Car Reviews without a promoted giveaway... At least these are much shorter and less obnoxious than they used to be. Nice job guys.
This an amazing example its so clean under the hood too.
Its so similar to my old 86 honda accord i miss that so much im happy have an early 90s corolla wagon. So much space for activities.
Man the production quality is incredible these days my dude.
I have fond memories of these cars. One of my best friends in high school had an 88 LS 3 door. That car took everything we could throw at it and asked for more. It smoked more than a Pennsylvania DMV employee, and the air conditioning eventually died, but it always ran. And it was always fun. As Mr. Regular mentioned, it was a PA car, so rust killed it, but we still talk about how great it was.
When Acura said that the new Integra was going back to its roots, this is the car they were referring to. Not the DC5 and definitely not the DC2.
This 5 door hatchback is the main inspiration for the newest Integra and to understand it and why, you’ll have to drive and appreciate the old one.
Excellent assessment
well expressed👍🏾
And now I *actually* want to see Mr. Regular go try out a New Integra.
Also yeah I can see it, somehow!
New Integra is an insult to the nameplate.
@@ADUSN the new integra is exactly the same thing as this, a ballade(upmarket civic) liftback
The d16a did only get 113 the zc got 133. They’re basically the same motor but the d engine was watered down by emissions so it got a huge power boost from bolt ons. It actually was the car that created the Honda culture here(and the civic hatchback/crx
I miss my 90 integra, that shit was the best car i ever owned.
Runsted to shit, previous owner cut the exhaust at the end of down pipe. Stearing assist pump went out a year after i bought it.
Nothing felt better or smother than rowing those gears through the PA country side.
Fucking trunk leaked and filled the interior with water one time whole thing reeked of mildew and exhaust fumes (from the exhaust dumping under the cabin). I wish i hadnt donated it but it got to the point where i couldnt keep it registered. The body was fucked, checked the VIN a few months after, someone bought it @ $200 and i guarantee they ripped the B18 and trans put and dropped it into something else. I only hope the heart of that car kept some other dirty honda alive today.
RIP that sweet ass car.
The RCR I never knew I wanted. I was real close to getting one of these over a 3rd generation Prelude as my first car a few years ago. Never did own it, but it’s still somehow like seeing an old friend.
I could listen to mr regular all day describing how japanese imports are the postmodernism movement for car culture.
I am a Honda fanboy and did not know this existed. Shame on me.
That's why I bought it
thank you for doing this car
i've always had a crush on this car. the design of this era.. absolutely loved it.
Pop up head lamps are always cool
12:35 You're calling it independent suspension all around, but that's obviously a solid beam in the rear.
Beat me to it.
These cars where no joke they would go 300k+ there was 3 of these in my family and they all went 300K+ one went 350k before the transmission went out.
Assuming the rust monster didn't target it like a buffet. It wasn't until around 1990 that most Japanese manufacturers figured out some states put more salt on their roads than the rim of a margarita glass.
But if you could find a warm weather car that wasn't parked on the beach, they would just keep going.
My parents 3rd gen Accord 5 speed had 564k when they sold it. The transmission had been rebuilt a year before, and the engine had been replaced; but that was an amazing car!
@@carlasghost656oh it was definitely rusty in its later years
i've become a massive fan over a about a week and a half now! your humor and apt assessments are astounding, and learning about the old janky stuff is really fascinating too 🤘🤘
Goddam Mr. Regular, dem calves!
Mr. Regular is hitting the nostalia bone with us Xer's here. And I like it.
wow an actual regular car
Love these cars in the 5 door variant. Engine note is beautiful, just like the B series engines in the Prelude of the era. And that cassette tape holder!! So jelly of that haha
The differences in HP was typical Honda of the 80s. The US cars got the 113hp motor and the 130hp "ZC" motor Japan and Europe got. Used to see a lot of the ZC JDM marked motors imported 20+ years back. I think the difference was the cam profile between the d16a1 and ZC marked DOHC motors. US got the shaft on a lot of motors from Honda
every stated above is 100% correct
I think a lot of american models of cars were detuned cause it was also designed for 87 octane
Incredible! Where the heck did you find one is such incredible shape?
Wow a survivor! Oldest Japanese car you’ve reviewed in a while. I’ve only seen a first Gen Integra once in person. It was a very clean, red, 1 owner (old man) ‘91 model.
my dream car. i’ve been looking so long for one but they’ve pretty much gone extinct by now.
My grandmother had a two door very similar to this she kept it for two years then traded it in on a prelude si in blue I really liked that car😊.
I just bought a new Integra because it was available and reasonably priced. If it had more knee room in the drivers seat (which is a common problem in modern cars) it would be a perfect economical car. I have driven many old ones and had a 91 legend and have heard that they were all just dressed up civics and Accords. Just ask anybody who worked on them. They were not. The Integras were quite different and the Legends share practically no parts and were sold in several other markets as the Honda Legend so it was not a US only model as usually wrongfully said. They were all great cars.
If I recall, 133 for the DOHC version and 113BHP for the SOHC version. US versions may differ with 113 and 130 being DOHC options but differing emission regs. Over in the UK, the Rover/Honda collaboration shared these units. The DOHC 16 valve was more popular in the Hondas, though Rover did get it in the 216 and 416GTi models. It's an absolute screamer of an engine in DOHC form and a lot of fun to use. However, oddly for a Honda engine, they do suffer from Head Gasket Failure. The SOHC version wasn't bad, but.....having driven both extensively, that DOHC was an absolute peach. Mated to the PG1 5 speed, it's a dream combo for a small FWD car from the late 80s.
A general rule is that the American version always has less power.
@@JohnSmith-wx9wj Yeah... apparently we can't compete with with foreign cars, so we resort to moving goalposts. X3
This car reminds me to appreciate my ae92 GTS. Enjoying lightweight, simple, economy boxes is so much easier than POWER!
80s imports were more fun than anything domestic. hell, the 85 golf gti, motor trend car of the year then, was faster from 0-60 and 60-0 than any domestically made car. that includes all the pony cars and the corvette in 85. and it had back seats and a boot that could fit a lot of stuff in it. and it was a fraction of the cost to run.
Good browning Mr. Regular and friends!
One of my coworkers dailies a 2nd gen 2 door integra.
It is blue, has faded paint, and an auto.
Still love seeing it.
86 and 87 had 113 HP. 88 got the black top with 118 HP.
This brings back memories, had '87 Integra LS 2 door back in the days..
I usually dont comment, im just here for the vibes, but you sir, need to stop making every honda you review sound like the perfect car ever hahahaha. Currently I'm the proud owner of 2 hondas, a 96 auto accord wagon, and an 04 ep3 hatch. I was a honda fan long before I found your channel but I never even knew these cars existed before your videos on them came out. Your perspective on the older, mostly unknown and unloved cars out there is something truly unique and without these videos people like me would have a lot harder of a time diving into history.
Ted beat me by a day on buying this exact car back in March... It almost came down to Phoenix :) Good for him and glad it's in good hands. I have an '88 3 door LS I've been restoring. These cars are such a jam to drive, impossible to wipe the smile off the face. Great video!
Sorry eric!
80's and 90's Honda was just 🤌.
That engine sounds so good. I owned 3 Acura Legends and I've always loved their older inline 4 and 6 cylinder engine notes.
I got an 1999 CR-V with 233k miles. That 146 HP B20Z engine still runs like a champ, automatic transmission not so much.
The first generation Legend coupe was the best looking Acura ever, IMO
My first car was an 88' Honda Accord LX - carbureted A20A2, 4 speed auto trans.. I miss it ever day. It's been 23 years since it went off to the scrap yard.
My father had the Japan and Europe only hatchback version of this, the Aerodeck Accord.
No kid who spotted it from the back seat of a car ahead would turn down the opportunity to ask for the car to blink at them. And Dad never denied the request.
I had a Red one here in the UK, and... AB-SO-LUTE-LY LOVED IT!!! I had the 1.6 16EX (the 'Type R' of the day), PGM-F1 fuel injection running on a 1.6 litre CrossFlow head. SOLID motor! I regularly thrashed that girl! And she CONSTANTLY PULLED HARD RIGHT TO REDLINE in 5th (135MPH)... Damn she was a FINE CAR AND I MISS HER!!! 😕😕
😎🇬🇧
I loved the "sneeze into the hand, hand back onto steering wheel" manoeuvre almost as much as that follow-up "nose pick-onto the shifter". Smooooth. You see, this is why I love you guys.
They used to be so common in Australia. Then I've seen two third gen integra four doors.
We had Acura here?
@@grantmctaggart9942sold as a Honda of course. And Rover.
@@grantmctaggart9942No, but they sold the first gen Integra four door here as the Rover 416i. I'm not sure if we got both the two and four doors as Hondas or just the two door.
It looks just like my 1986 Honda Accord. The color, the black exterior trim, the popup headlights, the steering wheel, etc.
This wasn't "just a civic" it was the civic we weren't allowed to have in the states. It wouldnt be until the type R or civic Si that we got a DOHC civic. Integras were the loop hole to having a taste of real Honda jdm performance
Before going too far, I had my 1993 DB1 (2nd gen) Integra for several years. I always had a lot of respect for the first gen. They are exceptionally rare and discreet but if I ever saw one, it put a smile on my face they were still around. I think I might need to reacquire another DB1... and perhaps this is the sign.
my 1992 DA9 is still one of my favorite cars ive ever owned. I had it when i was 19 and to this day regret not keeping it to rebuild the engine that had gone bad from lots of racing.
I talked to a guy at my local cars and coffee with a basically identical spec 1985 Toyota Corolla Diesel. It was also a California car and despite almost a quarter million miles it still looked perfect. It was really cool to see up close and this Integra reminds me of that car a lot!
I like hearing of the stories of the individual cars and hearing Brians view on just owning a car that you love and care for, regardless of whether it's objectively the most sensible choice or best value or what not. I think it's worthy of respect when somebody cares for and keeps a car in good shape no matter how insignificant that car may be, even if it's just moms old base model 1st gen Dodge Caravan. We've had this Volvo 850 R in my family for 19 years at this point, and i'm 22 now, so it spans back to some of my first memories and takes part in some of my best memories with my dad. I honestly can't think of anything that could replace the feeling that it gives me. Not even another identical car. It has been garagekept and currently sits in rust free condition at almost exactly 90000 miles, so it is to me, all things combined, a time capsule.
First time I'm saying I'm genuinely jealous of something you drove. The fact these things are gonna go for like $20k on todays market makes me want to... Kyle something really hard.
Same it’s that or they’re molested/ rusted out. That was an amazing time. Little did we know
Yes!!! Great car! Love my ‘94 Integra GSR!
This car reminds me of my first car. It was a brown on brown (Tuscany Taupe Metallic) 1989 Honda Accord SE-i. I liked the brown color as it did not look too bad when it was dirty.
It makes 113 but the short gearing helps a lot! I have this same drivetrain in my first gen crx and it’s a hoot.
These were also very light cars, which made a big difference. Modern vehicles are bogged down by so much heavy plastic and unnecessary technology.
@1:58 Damn that sounds so good from 1987.
This was the car i drove my first two years of "Independent living" after I moved out of my parents house at 18. It was an '88 RS in red with a 5 speed and roughly 100k miles on it. I blew the clutch thinking it was fast and had to do my first clutch job on it in a 100 year old garage with no lights/power and a gravel floor. I few months later I took it on a road trip and lost the 2nd gear synchro about 300 miles from home, then I lost the 4th gear synchro on the trip back home. Lol. I drove that car for at least another year in that condition because I was a poor transient (actually lived in that car for about a month). Then my grandmother gave me her (8 year old at the time) Cadillac Deville and I sold the Integra for $400. I cut my building and racing teeth on 80's/90's Hondas, and they were the foundation of my lifelong car obsession. I bought the Acura because my CRX had to be scrapped (broke the welds on the integrated rear strut mount when I jumped the car), and at the time I thought the Integra was a huge downgrade because it wasn't the prettiest body style back then. I'm sure feeling nostalgic about it now. Thanks RCR.
I had a 1986 Honda Accord with 5 speed and pop-ups. Loved it
This channel is directly responsible for old Japanese car prices increasing.
I love my integra! so glad you covered the best integra! (IMO)
Your Video in their several camera views was fantastic and cool and not only the Cars Models features ....but all Great ¡! Thank you both for teach automotive Honda Integra. Regards from MEXICO, Queretaro. : ))
I had an 88 Prelude and 91 Integra back in the day .All Honda products from the late 80s and 90s had a simple ,fun feel with light weight and sharp handling .These first gen ones are rare now!!
Sneezes, makes sure camera is ok, puts snot covered hand on shifter and steering wheel. what a bro!
Holyshit. Your camera is much more stable. Footage feels more arcade like. That's nice dude.
My friend had that EXACT car back in the mid 90s, same colour, everything ! We used to zoom around in that thing, Everything was just right on that car.
The Gen 1 was a blast to drive! Thanks for reviewing this survivor!
Those taillights still look great.
The FA5/FG2 (8th Gen Si) is just as good, and it’s a modern chassis with modern safety. I have had mine for about 2 months, and i’ve put 6000 miles on it already. I just CANT. STOP. DRIVING!
205hp K20Z3, snappy 6 spd, excellent chassis, comfortable interior, the list just goes on and on
Sneeze into hand, immediately places sneeze hand on shifter
REEEEEEEEE
I had a red coupe of this gen over 10 years ago! 5 speed manual. I loved the interiors in these cars. And the engine was a sweetheart. Have a lot of fond memories behind the wheel of that thing, even if it burned oil like sin. Fun cars.
Loving the chase camera that focuses on the front of the car and stays still, reminds me of video games
Just makes me love my 97 LS even more. That b18b may not make a lot of power, but damn it sounds good.
Mr regular, when are you going to review an Alfa Romeo spider! Would love to hear you talk about how a film has the ability to boost sales outside of a Delorean context.
We had one of these in the family, back in the day. Same colour. Loved that car and it was one of the first cars I learned to drive in. This brings back some memories!
I had the 3 door loved every sec of it and was smooth and fun in the hills
My mom got an 88 2door RS when I was kid. It was my first favorite car. It was that light blue color. I wish I could find one.
I love Integras. Never owned one. But did own a 87 Legend. That was a car worth the roadtrips it was made for. 😊❤
I drove my '87 Integra LS 5 speed right out of the showroom. What a great little car, smooth everything and just so amazing for 1987 for the price: DOHC, 16 valves, fuel injection and 4 wheel disc brakes. Other than the anemic air conditioning, it did everything well.
From the late 1980s through the late 1990s, so many good driving memories, peak humanity. Things have evolved, but I prefer those.
I’ve owned 3 2nd gen Integras, I’m so happy you finally covered an older integra ❤❤
IVE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS ONE FOR YEARS !!
My first Honda is a 98 accord j30a1 and I loved Hondas and acuras for a long time it’s cool to see where it all started
What a sharp looking vehicle. Thanx for the delightful review.
LS, not LX. JUST like my father's old 1988 Acura Integra LS 5-door, except his was blue. Even 36 years later, the styling simply has NOT aged!!!!!! I would sometimes go out of the house just to stare at this car's beautiful lines. Unfortunately, it met its untimely demise in 1997 when it got T-boned at an intersection in North Reading, MA. This car replaced my/our beloved 1985 Dodge Colt Vista in 1993. I would LOVE it if you could find a 1st-generation (1984-1991) Dodge/Plymouth Colt Vista to review!!! We used to have a 1985 Dodge Colt Vista when I was growing up, & I would give ANYTHING to have another one!!!!! Ours was Glacier Blue Metallic, 2WD, & an automatic. It also had a manually-tuned AM-FM stereo radio with no cassette deck. NOT a star on the track by ANY means, but..........let's just say that Glacier Blue Metallic was definitely the appropriate color for ours, as it DEFINITELY had glacier-like acceleration!!!!! It wasn't the best handler, & with its 88-horsepower carbureted 2.0-liter 4-cylinder, it SURE as hell wasn't the fastest vehicle in the world, but it didn't NEED to be!!! It's usefulness more than made up for any track performance deficits.
