I see so much hate about Honda cars..... but most of those people have never driven one, and I mean DRIVE, not just cruise around. My car is just a 1992 Honda Civic DX, it is not fast, but even without sway bars, it handles beautifully with the double wishbone suspension. People get so glued to straight line performance, but never think about balance and handling, as well as having a chassis that communicates back to you exactly what it is doing. If you want a pure, raw feeling of driving, an old Honda is a great way to experience that. And by far, the best front drive car I have ever had the chance to be in, is, the Integra Type R. While yes, there are faster cars in every respect these days, they still do not give the feeling of an old Honda. Driving excitement comes from more than just how fast a car goes, it also comes from how said car feels when you push it, and modern cars lack a lot of what makes driving fun.
I had a 1992 Acura Integra GS, had a short ram intake and an exhaust (both installed when I bought the car). Thankfully, the exhaust was not rice, the car was mechanically pretty decent, and surprised the hell out of a friend that was shit talking Honda. I showed him there is more to life than just straight line speed. A good friend of mine has a 1993 integra GS, we are about to put a 2000 Integra GS-R head on his B18A1, complete with B16B pistons which will give it a compression ratio of 12.5:1, and then I will be tuning it once we have it back together. Has a Skunk2 70mm throttle body, Skunk2 Pro intake manifold, hand ported the intake and exhaust ports, 4 into 1 header, and 2.5 inch exhaust from the collector back to a nice sounding muffler. The car was already pretty nuts with the original non-VTEC head, 70mm throttle body, the B18A1/B1 Skunk2 Pro intake manifold and the same header/exhaust combo, with me tuning on the ECU.
Carstuff111 throw a B18C in there! I love Hondas too. I have a 95 CX with a B16B block, B18C crank and B18C head. Full build, sleeved, rods pistons, valves, etc with a GT35r. Shit is crazy, but I drove it with the NA JDM B18C for 5 years before going turbo. High 13's @4500ft elev with only 156 whp was still a hell of a lot of fun. I had an 88 CRX Si before the Hatch and that car handled like a dream. Kinda wish I kept it and invested the money into motor mods in that chassis. Looked sportier too. Hondas are great cars. Plenty of options and they're fun to drive.
*I understand how that feels. So many people hate on Ford because of it's bad rep in the past. The Fiesta ST is probably one of the best modern fwd cars but it's a shame most JDM enthusiasts have never driven it nor even heard of it's existence, cause it doesn't have a JDM badge on it.*
A good friend of mine enjoyed his drive in a Fiesta ST, it is the only Ford he has ever driven that he actually enjoyed. However, modern cars all suffer from the same issues these days: Too much technology, not enough on making the car actually serviceable. Just because something is nice to drive, does not mean it is a good car. Ford and everyone else these days have made it a bad habit to just cram so much technology into cars, they don't care about anything else. And while you say that Ford has had a bad rep in the past.... it still has that rep because it still holds true. I have yet to drive a Ford product, new or old, that impresses me enough to consider it something I would own. And every, single, Ford product that I have driven, has had something wrong with it, or something goes wrong with it. Well, that is just American cars in general these days. I think the turbo in my roommates' 2011 Chevy Cruze is already starting to fail, and this is a common thing for Cruzes it seems. I am not impressed with much of anything these days. Yeah, cars have gotten faster, and mostly safer..... but I rather own a car that, when something goes wrong, I can fix it without needing a degree in engineering and a pound of weed to keep me calm to work through the nightmare that has become modern cars.

Can't say I dont like the ws6 though...Best late 90s/early 2000s style car I've ever been in performance wise for a stock car. Unless you want to pull out some super rare mustang they only made 50 of. Even then we're not talking Nascar. A fwd with 150-200 hp is about equivalent to a rwd 250-300, all things being even stock and no race fuel. If you took a stock mustang, 97 with a 4.6, and an integra r same year, they'd both be super slow compared to even cheap sports cars today
What you’re saying is very very true the tuner seen now wasn’t anything like it was 20 years ago, I grew up in the 90s where I developed love and loyalty for Honda’s, I was in high school in the start of the 2000s when Honda’s were about the most popular scene in America at the time and of course we had awesome events to go to like tuner bash or nopi nationals featuring a lot of Vtec’s and this is when everybody was fixing up their rides and the scene was richer, especially where I came up in the panhandle of Florida which was heavy with tourism. Now it’s a distant memory pretty much of what it used to be back when people praised the B series Honda motor or the h and f series and even the D series, I remember back in 2005 a buddy of mine had the only championship white 1998 Integra type R in town and he had a B and M short shifter. A lighter flywheel and a Gretty VTEC controller. Like many people were doing taking the Acura badges off and putting the Honda badges on, he wanted that car to remain what it was on the outside and the body he didn’t put a bigger spoiler or wheels, he wanted the body to remain the same because he wanted to keep it all original except for performance. At the time that car was so much more fun then my other friends 2002 Mustang GT which by the way had 70 more horses. I love the K-series but that right there was the very beginning of a major time shift when the B series retired and the H series also, I’ll never forget riding in my buddies Integra for the first time, it was a Championship white 98 spec Acura Integra type R number 400 and something out of 1500 made, but never thought that car would get up to 80 as quick as it did, on a little side street where you think you wouldn’t be able to get up to 45, even the rpm redline governer was 88 or 8700, this car went up to 9100 out of 10,000. Man the bad ass noise that little Honda motor made and when he shifted out of first gear, those tires lit up at the gear change up to 50 and before I know it that speed dial was at 78 he was at the top of second, that was the most beautiful thing I’d ever felt was pure VTEC, and dammit I miss those days, these new kids on the block will never understand they are constantly ranting on supras and GTR‘s and the other cars with naturally twice or three times more power than the 90s Hondas but it’s the pride the Honda’s had they’ll never understand and that I’ll never forget. Those V-8 guys or turbo V6 guys know they’re in a different class than these Hondas were and of course they love to make fun of the smaller motor, I’ll argue with anybody that when the VTEC engine was introduced it was one of the biggest successes in vehicle history kind of like the rotary of Mazda or the hemi to Plymouth or even the flat boxer motor to Subaru. Japan got it right on the VTEC motor. I’ll always have Honda blood running through me and it will never die.😬👍🏻
Jerry Lewis I wish I was around the 1990s to experience the full car culture. But unfortunately I was born in 2003 and now all the kids at my high school are tuner wanna be with there STI impreza and 350z.
I was born in 83, and totally grew up during the same era. Great summary of the times. Miss my Honda days. I now drive an infiniti m56, 420hp v8, rwd, everything the hondas of,past weren't. I would trade in a second to go,back.
@@fishyfinflaps graduated in 2000 here and there wasn't a Better time than having a 95 eagle talon tsi and 94Honda prelude SI when fast and the furious came out. I had so many tickets for racing but it was so fun. A time when you could push 200hp and smoke most cars on the road. Now the Camry has 300hp base. 300hp is what we all chased after. Even the mustang boys. Now it's 1000hp everyone is chasing. I don't see the fun in almost dying off the line. Lol.
maStEr LemOnS lol the car scene in Australia is crazy even during high school and especially first year of university. Half of our universities even have Motorsport teams. Also over here most of the cars are either built for going fast on mountains, making a fuck load of HP, or doing mad fuArkEn skiDs. But nothing beats a touge imo
I feel this is kind of the breakout episode for this series. Where it really hit its stride, came into its own, as far as comedy, writing, delivery, and energy. It's probably the one I'd recommend people watch first when introducing them to Up to Speed.
I had a 96' LS coupe 5spd. Besides lacking vtec it was my favorite car ever, the connection between the driver and car was so strong, the steering, the brakes, the gearbox, everything felt like it wanted you to push the tires to their limit in every corner! Plus Honda reliablity, i went though a dizzy and a clutch in the 3 years i abused my teggy. Sold it for a boring automatic 06' TL. Miss it every day.
I agree with Waffeey's comments completely. I owned two 1989 Integra RS's and a 1999 LS. Every generation of the Integra was a joy to drive because you could use 100% of the car's capabilities every day. The driving position, steering feel, clutch/shifter action were among the greatest I've ever driven. I also had the base engines (D16A1, and B18B) and both were very reliable with one of my 89's reaching 268,000 miles. Of the two generations I owned, the 89's were better cars. They were 2400 pounds versus the 99, which was almost 2700. The 99 just didn't feel as raw and responsive as the 89's due to the weight. The B18 also frequently felt "lazy" and unwilling to rev quickly. (In comparison to B18C's, B16A's and H22's I've driven). However, the B18 would accelerate in 5th, while the 89's needed to drop into 4th for any real rolling acceleration. The B18 was best to about 4000-4500 rpm, while the D16 liked to live above 3000 and had no problem going to 7000 on a regular basis. The B18 felt tortured near its redline. I too ended up selling my 1999 after 15 years of ownership when the Takata airbag disaster was revealed. I now own a boring 2004 Volvo S80 2.5T. Yeah, I miss my Integra too.
💪 I’m with you there . My first car was 94 ls coupe 5 speed . Absolutely loved every minute of it . Such a great car . I was sad to let it go during my younger inexperienced days . Now I regret it .
Thanks - As the original and still proud owner of a '96 GSR ( the year the Integra won 11 races in a row to clench SCCA's Showroom Stock class), I can assure you that life is GREAT between 4,500 and 8,000 rpm!!
I got a '97 Integra GS-R for my first car last year. It's amazing. I love it. Few people appreciate it, limited almost exclusively to my tuner loving friends. Everyone else just says "why don't you sell that piece of junk and get something better". They haven't driven the car ;)
Greg Mc Theres someone I know who said he’d give me his for my first car but here in australia it’s illegal to drive a vtec car as an L and P plater :(
Me too Greg Mc I got my first car last summer that happens to be the same age as me a 1998 gsr people said the same thing about my car but people seemed to be mis informed for what it is. But I never care knowing that I'm one of the fewer people that owns a dc2 while others have the model ls and claim to have a dc2 and I laugh and tell them it's a dc4 lol.
I was a teenager in the late 90s/ early 2000's. I was never an import kid, but I did really like the integra. You can't deny its performance save handling.
I love the Integra! I finally got myself one and i was so excited! It's a 1991 Integra ls 2 door hatchback with a inline 4 DOHC Honda engine with a 5 speed manual. I love the sound of the exhaust when you rev it up, and it gets great gas mileage, around 40mpg.
I miss my RSX. Definitely the best car I've ever owned. Although we got 3 trims in Canada: -type-s (same as the US) -premium (called base in the US) -base (which had fabric seats and no sunroof, making it light, and held you better in your seat during spirited driving)
just to note the JDM camry / camry lumiere that came with the 3SGE was pretty badass for the time plus u could get them in 4wd or all wheel steer back then and a easy swap in to the 3SGTE aka beams engine in newer cars which was available in the Caldina technology kind of a camry wagon..

My 1992 Integra was literally the best, most dependable car I ever owned. Now, I drive a Volvo, which is also one of the best, but not as great as my Acura Integra.
TBH, the Prelude was too heavy for Honda performance standards, lol. There was one model that had a pretty damn good engine but that weight was never gonna allow it to handle like the other Honda cars.
Dope video bro, my second car when I could afford to buy one I got a 2006 RSX Type S for $9k back in 2013 and love the crap out of it for the two years I had it !!! #vtecFTW
I had an '88 LS Special Edition, the black and gold version...ended up having electrical issues and sold it, not knowing what I had. I still regret selling it, nearly 20 years later....
My dad has a 96 integra Gs-R with 335,000 miles and it runs like new. Everytime he drives it we go up to redline, the car dosent smoke ethier, the orginal altenator also just went out, this proves that those Hondas will last forever. Very fun car 10/10.
This was the first donut video I ever saw, now I have an rsx and just bought a type r k engine, thank you donut for what I needed to know to get up to speed on the integra type r
Drew Plutowski and you can thank Mercedes Benz for lobbying Congress to create the import ban, because they were losing out on money when people were importing the same car from overseas but more powerful and cheaper.
I was born in 2002 and sadly didn’t get to experience Honda in their prime, but I love them all the same. When I was about 11 my aunt had a brand new red Civic Si coupe and immediately took me through some back roads. I instantly fell in love. Something about that car, the sound and character it had, and that inexplicable feeling it would give me going around a corner or hitting VTEC. I remember going home that night and watching every TH-cam video I could find about Honda, VTEC, Type R’s, etc...That Honda alone is the reason I’m an enthusiast today (and a complete car nerd). Unfortunately, the only “car culture” where I live is a handful of obnoxious squatted trucks and straight piped auto Mustangs. Nobody around me shares the same love for Hondas that I do, and it’s disappointing that they’re so looked down upon in car culture. If you enjoy your car, and it makes you happy, why should it matter if someone else doesn’t appreciate it? It’s YOUR car. And for everyone out there that absent-mindedly hates on Honda’s for no good reason - Drive one. It doesn’t hurt to keep open mind. You don’t have to love it, but that gives you no right to talk down on someone for working their ass off and spending their hard earned money and time on something that makes them happy. That’s what’s wrong with car culture, there are too many closed minded sheep that scoff at anything they don’t care to actually learn about. I dream of someday owning an ITR or a first gen NSX (yeah right). I just wish that more people could learn to keep an open mind and remember that their opinion isn’t always the most important.
My Dad owned a 3rd gen Acura Integra GSR back in 1996. And today August 13, 2021, he came in my room and said to me "I'm getting a new car". And as it happens, Acura has just confirmed they are now going to be coming out with a new generation of Acura Integra!!!!! LET'S FECKING GOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!
McLaren F1 I'm telling you. It's going to be a Up To Speed to remember. I just watched a documentary on it' first time at Le Mans. The F1 is the one to do.
This car is what made me accept FWD as a valid drive setup, while i despise understeer, around a track these light and simple FWD cars dominate compared to similarly spec'd others. You can beat the hell out of them all day and still drive back home no problem, and if you arent as experienced and start to get a bit of oversteer, just point at where you want to go and floor it and the front tyres will drag you right there.
clayton8or_2 understeer is tuned into most factory suspension setups whether fwd or red. How you set up suspension determines the handling characteristics, not just the weight balance or drive wheels alone.
I had the pleasure of owning a 1999 ITR DC2 here in Melbourne (Australia).... in which I clocked up 165,000 kms (from new) & enjoyed 13 track days during my 5.5 years of driving nirvana. I was utterly addicted to the VTEC scream of the B18C engine, the wonderfully slick gearbox, dynamic handling & complete package of Honda engineering. Even 17 years on & after driving many higher spec cars, the memories of the DC2 remain as some of my best driving experiences ==> I would buy another one anytime!!
I just realized after watching this video again and seeing how he talks about the car especially at the end and you can tell he truly cares about these cars especially ones that he thinks don’t get the recognition they deserve like the integra it’s a great car I even own one but I can tell that he truly does like and care about the car

I wish I was around the 1990s to experience the full car culture. But unfortunately I was born in 2003 and now all the kids at my high school are tuner wanna be with there STI impreza and 350z.
maStEr LemOnS I was born in 03 and my school doesn’t even have car enthusiasts. It sucks

Don’t hate the TLs man😭😭😭 my 06 is my baby rn 😭
Thanks - As the original and still proud owner of a '96 GSR ( the year the Integra won 11 races in a row to clench SCCA's Showroom Stock class), I can assure you that life is GREAT between 4,500 and 8,000 rpm!!
o7
I've owned two integras in my lifetime and I have a GSR currently sitting bone stock with lowering springs and this made me proud of it.
Should be proud. It is a car that you should be proud to own. Ez to maintain. And always a blast to drive.
These are getting better and better. Whatever DM is paying him, please give him a raise!!
I got a '97 Integra GS-R for my first car last year. It's amazing. I love it. Few people appreciate it, limited almost exclusively to my tuner loving friends. Everyone else just says "why don't you sell that piece of junk and get something better". They haven't driven the car ;)
Greg Mc Theres someone I know who said he’d give me his for my first car but here in australia it’s illegal to drive a vtec car as an L and P plater :(
Keep it forever or until I offer to buy it from you :D
Pretty much every car has some form of Vtec nowadays anyways.
What in the hell is an L and P plater?
Me too Greg Mc I got my first car last summer that happens to be the same age as me a 1998 gsr people said the same thing about my car but people seemed to be mis informed for what it is. But I never care knowing that I'm one of the fewer people that owns a dc2 while others have the model ls and claim to have a dc2 and I laugh and tell them it's a dc4 lol.
Thank you for the "Taking Back Sunday" singing
Not many people here i bet know who they are.
i love that part hahaha
When James says “the best is Yet to come” and you know where he’s going, and you own one, that’s a special feeling
R, you ready?
I was a teenager in the late 90s/ early 2000's. I was never an import kid, but I did really like the integra. You can't deny its performance save handling.
Molybdenum di-sulfide is a commonly used 'high performance' grease/lubrication. Common now, but advanced for the time.
Pretty scookum stuff too this day

I use that in my 125cc grom haha
Ayy, AvE fans permeate everything, just like moly disulfide and the wife's white couch.

Michael Alvarado no no get out of here with that, talking about the 99-05 lexis is300 Toyota altezza, isf sucks
The altezza nation approves
I love the Integra! I finally got myself one and i was so excited! It's a 1991 Integra ls 2 door hatchback with a inline 4 DOHC Honda engine with a 5 speed manual. I love the sound of the exhaust when you rev it up, and it gets great gas mileage, around 40mpg.
Dude your car aint gettin no 40 mpg the 91 integra from factory was only 23mpg
Laughing and learning

I miss my RSX. Definitely the best car I've ever owned. Although we got 3 trims in Canada:
-type-s (same as the US)
-premium (called base in the US)
-base (which had fabric seats and no sunroof, making it light, and held you better in your seat during spirited driving)

Fate Breaker the new camry isnt that bad...
Never being stranded with the most dependable vehicle is always cool
@JS 09 .... Because Cadillac IS a luxury brand
@JS 09 is it because you're high as fuck?
just to note the JDM camry / camry lumiere that came with the 3SGE was pretty badass for the time plus u could get them in 4wd or all wheel steer back then and a easy swap in to the 3SGTE aka beams engine in newer cars which was available in the Caldina technology kind of a camry wagon..

Always wanted an Integra. They're so fucking cool. Even the name is cool. Thanks for capturing the spirit of the 90s import scene.
Boiiiiii I've been waiting for this!
Surprised you posted here lmao
Haha why? I love these vids. The editing is dope!
I'm surprised you even responded to me !! Omg this is the best day of my life you are literally my role model lmao
DannyDC2 I KNEW you would find this video eventually.... Can't wait for the reveal in the next video mate *cough cough* Toyonda *cough cough*
Haha I'm glad I made your day. I guess I would feel the same if the chap in this video replied to us both. 😍
R.I.P integra. You never got the recognition you deserved, but we will never forget you. You hold a special place in our hearts. May the Tuner god have mercy on you.
"Today, the tuner scene is a weird mish-mash of drifting, time-attack, and stance guys, but it hasn't always been like that"... i wished more people from this generation knew that, THANK YOU!
Great video. Made me shed a tear for my stolen DC2. It really was one of the best cars I have ever owned/driven.
VTEC just kicked in yo! *BWAHHHHHHH*
RuuuurrrrrrrrrWARRRRRRRRRRRRR
James' personality is the best for this show

DigitalV3 ikr and at the beggining of the show people didnt like him which i didnt get why. I guess he needs new haters cuz his haters turned into fans
My 1992 Integra was literally the best, most dependable car I ever owned. Now, I drive a Volvo, which is also one of the best, but not as great as my Acura Integra.
I've watched this episode at least 3 times and it never gets old.
Up to speed Honda Prelude!
i would cry because i own it
Need itt!!!!!!!!!
YES
I was counting the time until someone said "VTEC just kicked in, Yo!" FOr this video it's at 3:22.
Honda Prelude!!!
I absolutely love my Integra , everyone is definitely right when you say it's an amazing drivers car 🇯🇵
Very true SBSS. And you don’t even have to break speed limits to experience the magic.
Is that a Saab in the back? Up to speed on Saab??
yes it is
A Saab 900😍😍
wait, the background isn't a greenscreen...?
The Preludes!!!!!! Honor the Preludes.
Cirenio Pizano According to 95% of the car world these days, the Prelude never existed
interstate366 I was thinking it, but didn't want to say it, so thanks!
TBH, the Prelude was too heavy for Honda performance standards, lol.
There was one model that had a pretty damn good engine but that weight was never gonna allow it to handle like the other Honda cars.
SI0AX still had insanely good handling. Better than probably 95% of cars with the same price tag or even 5K (even without inflation) at the time
Prelude, a.k.a PREdator
I think so far, this is the best Up to Speed
Fun fact: Most of you watched this more than ones.

I still regret selling it, nearly 20 years later....
microbuilder currently have a '95 LS SE and I'm loving it to this day.
Never let it go, you'll regret it! lol

USA always gets shafted when it comes to being able to have import cars, but at least i get to own whatever gun i want
Drew Plutowski except for Russian AKs and any select fire gun made after 1986
Drew Plutowski and you can thank Mercedes Benz for lobbying Congress to create the import ban, because they were losing out on money when people were importing the same car from overseas but more powerful and cheaper.
@@sloweg3113 it was a voluntary import restriction, by agreements between Japanese car companies.
Glock type R
You actually have some nice beginners cars, which we don't have in Germany 🤷🏻♂️
THIS IS WHAT I HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR. THANKS, JESSICA!
No one asked
Yeah, really sad man. Our youth is shitty electric cars

is it weird that I watch some of this up to speed videos twice cause there so awesome man they always get better and better every time
This car is what made me accept FWD as a valid drive setup, while i despise understeer, around a track these light and simple FWD cars dominate compared to similarly spec'd others.
Though understeer under acceleration is inherent for FWD vehicles, if the driven wheels spin they are at the front, giving less grip to those wheels.
Clay that's why we get a fwd and rwd car in the garage am I right???
teasing us with that 900 in the back....
Lmao that fast and the furious reference "Break her heart and I'll break your neck." :')

I just realized after watching this video again and seeing how he talks about the car especially at the end and you can tell he truly cares about these cars especially ones that he thinks don’t get the recognition they deserve like the integra it’s a great car I even own one but I can tell that he truly does like and care about the car
Integras have actually gotten lots of great attention for decades. People love them
