In this video I'm popping even off the lips, because I think its a good base to start doing jumps from. Doing Ollies off jumps is good too because you can get more height when you ollie, but its a bit more difficult to stay level in the air.
I'm a West Indies French Boy. I live in France. And i say thank you for this video. I wanted to learn how to jump and now i got some tips thanks to you! Thank you !
There are different ways you can hit a jump. You can just coast off the jump and let the jump do all the work or you can actually jump off with both feet and suck you legs up. The second way will give you more height and time in the air to grab. Some jump you need to jump so you get the distance to make the landing. Start by doing some small jumps outside the park and learning to ollie. Have fun!
Should we do a full olie at the lip of the jump or just jump straight up using both feet. I just want to practice the right way to make everything look "professional" and I've always heard jumping straight up is the wrong way to jump. Idk if that rule applies in doing large jumps or not though. Thanks
what do you think is better for summer: skateboarding or wakeboarding. I do have a Centrourian C4 Avalanche for a boat. But i didnt know whats better or more realistic to snowboarding. Iv never tried skateboarding but im thinking about it?
How about choosing a board? like differences between reverse camber, flat, rocker and all those. And which kinds of boards are good for park, powder, all mountain?
What is a good snowboard that you would recommend. I have been snowboarding for a couple years now and i want a board that is flexible for buttering but one that is still pretty versatile.
So do you ollie of these jumps or jump evenly off both feet? Thought they were different (ollie being pulling back front foot and loading the tail, and jumping off the tail). Thanks.
I already know how to hit jumps and don't really know why I watched this but I actually think it helped, its never too late to go back to basics hahaha
so I ride on on a small resort in MN and go out to bigsky on and off, I would love to learn to jump more but the park only has big jumps and the small jumps have rails what do you think would be the best to work on jumping
I used to have the opposite problem where I'd end up with my board behind me superman-ing my way down to a face-first landing :-) I solved it by trying to keep my weight above the centre of my board and yes, popping just before the lip rather than just riding over the edge. Sounds like you're leaning back too much.
Hi can you quickly explain how to pop off the lip. I think I'm doing something wrong as I can't seem to generate height off the jump or on flats. Thanks
thanks for the tip. Quick question - you're getting a lot of lift off flat ground. I'm def not getting at the height level. I thinking its my boots being too heavy. Could it be that or could it be that my approach to jumping is not correct?
Hi, thanks for the video! Are you supposed to keep your legs straight as you approach the jump, and only bend your knees when you're in the air? Basically, am I the one to kick myself off into the air or just ride off the lip into the air?
You want to ride into the jump with your legs bent. You can do nothing and just coast off the jump. Or you can jump off the lip which will get you more height in the air. I'm really sucking my knees up in the air, much more bent than I would have on the approach.
last year I learned thru trail and error on jumps. some good tips from fellow riders and your videos have really helped thanks I'm having so much fun as an older (54) rider #artrazz
Do you have to physically jump and suck your knees up or is like jumping on a trampoline? I'm pretty new to snowboarding just trying to get an understanding.
I have an issue where I try and pop evenly on both feet but when I go off the jump my board and feet go behind me as opposed to having my knees move upward towards my chest. I think it may be because I'm popping too early. I've heard that you should pop when the front foot is already off the edge of the jump. Any tips? Thanks!
Hey man, I have a question. This winter I'm about to try some jumps. When you approach a jump, after your speed checks, when you are going straight, do you lean slightly on an edge to jump or do you have your feet completely flat?
Great videos dude. My big concern is letting the board run flat, popping up, and landing back down without catching an edge during the setup and landing. Suggestions?
Try to do exactly what you just said on a mellow run hopping up a few inches higher in the air each time until you train yourself to take off with your board running flat, bring your knees up in the air and land flat riding it out for a second before turning onto an edge.
Dear Kevin, I have been working on jumps for some time now and I am having some trouble keeping my balance after I clear the jump. What can I do to improve my balance? Thanks P.S Can you send me a link to a video on 50 50ing rails?
Hey I'm super confused. It looked like you just rode right off the jump them bent your knees. Do you not have to pop off the tail like a skateboard when you do jumps?
I go into jumps flat and straight and jump off both feet evenly but sometimes the jumping makes my body tilt forwards or backwards which can really make my landing bad. I one time landed on my back and had back issues for a while. I don't want to get hurt again but I want to be able to pop of the lip of the jump i just dont know why I can't do it properly....
Peter Small When you're riding into the jump a lot of pressure gets built up on your snowboard. Challenge your riding more outside the park learning how to adapt to changing pressures.
The best tip I have for people attempting a jump is; JUST DO IT! It seems scary at first, but most small jumps are easy and it's pretty much like snowboarding in the air. I guarantee you will fall over the first couple of times, but it does not hurt (usually) and when you land it, you will feel so happy!
Hi - I've been practising on the dryslope recently - just got the hang of linked turns and am now just trying to speed up generally. Just before you jump, you said the board should be flat - I'm always worried that if the board is flat for even a microsecond i'm going to catch an edge and fall off. Is this likely to happen? Thanks, Ben
Going straight and flat can be difficult on your snowboard. It takes a lot of balance and practice. My advice is to practice it on you dry slope until you're super comfortable with it before trying a jump.
does snowboarding take a while to get a hang of im starting in a few weeks and going to get around 10 hours of lessons before just taking advice from friends , how long do you think it will take to get used to jumps?
My binding setup is + 15 in the front and -13 in the back. You can check out my video on snowboard set up here: How to Set Up your Snowboard Stance - Snowboard Gear Tips
When I get into the air, my arms instantly begin to flail and I can't seem to tuck my knees upward into my chest, they seem to bend backward behind me. I end up landing the jumps most of the time, but it's not pretty. Any tips to help me correct this? Thanks for the video as well!
I'm perfectly good at doing smaller jumps but when I try ones even a bit bigger I have a REALLY hard time staying balanced in the air(I almost got a concussion yesterday because of it)any tips on this?
To Kevin & everyone behind the scenes at Snowboard Pro Camp: As an avid surfer & free diver in Florida, snowboarding was something I always wanted to try, my first trip to Breckenridge was last Spring by day 3 I hit a top speed of 40mph, the learning curve was easier than I thought thanks to your vids! Much appreciated, P.S. The top speed came with a price of a sore tailbone for a few days after haha... but I'm a total grom again, this time for snowboarding. Thanks again guys! IG: @ Saltylenses
When I jump off the lip I t feels like I'm not jumping anywhere and I tend to fall forward easily. Do you have any tips for balanced jumping that I could do to improve? Thanks for the help man!
thanks this helped alot :D I am going snowboarding in big bear on Thursday. I have been in intermediate lessons and have done about 3 or 4 lessons. Do you think I am advanced enough to do this?
I've hit a jump before and started to roll unintentionally toward my back and just landed flat on my back, how could I prevent that or correct it in the air if it happens again?
Great idea! I'll try to get that video made. Thanks man.
It's a great board for beginners because it's forgiving to learn on, but the edges will hold when you want to start turning. I really recommend it!
At the moment I'm riding the Burton Custom Flying V. It's a fun board! What do you ride?
Yeah, I plan on making videos year round. Lots more riding too. Blackcomb mountain is open until the end of the month, then the glacier opens in July.
Thanks, that a great idea!
Yeah, I'm trying to update some of the older videos.
Nevermind, just watched your Q&A video and it explained everything. Keep up the great videos!
In this video I'm popping even off the lips, because I think its a good base to start doing jumps from. Doing Ollies off jumps is good too because you can get more height when you ollie, but its a bit more difficult to stay level in the air.
So excited for the snowboarding season
It looks like a good all round board. It might be bit big for the park depending on the size you got.
Best videos on TH-cam. Well done.
Thanks man!
I think both transfer really well into snowboarding. Maybe skateboarding slightly more because there is more balance involved.
Thanks man!
Cant wait to try this next winter!
very helpful. i am having fun snowboarding this season! thanks for all the tips
I'll practice this on Saturday, thanks a lot for the videos Kevin, such a great help, Greetings from Chile!
Awesome video. Best instructions by far. Thanks
I've had lots of request for a pipe video, so I'll try to get one out for you guys.
Just trying to get some new videos out for Souther Hemisphere winter. (NZ, Australia, Chile, Argentina.
I watch your videos all the time and you got me better at snowboarding to thank you for your previous post more

I'm thinking of doing this myself

Steeper landings are good. The bigger the jump the steeper the landing needs to be so your legs don't to absorb too much impact.
Just got a snowboard.going to learn.
GREAT VID
cool tips pal. simple and effective (I hope!)
thank you for this. after two season I think I'm ready to do some jumps and tricks.
Thank you for the video! Now I can actually hit and do grabs on the jumps!!
So do you ollie of these jumps or jump evenly off both feet? Thought they were different (ollie being pulling back front foot and loading the tail, and jumping off the tail). Thanks.
Back flip video because I really want to learn that! :D
I already know how to hit jumps and don't really know why I watched this but I actually think it helped, its never too late to go back to basics hahaha
Thanks for a tips
I hear there's a pond up on Blackcolm mtn...can you do a video on how to ride across it?
I ride a Never Summer Heritage X. I feel like its a great board for everything, but the park. What do you guys think?
so I ride on on a small resort in MN and go out to bigsky on and off, I would love to learn to jump more but the park only has big jumps and the small jumps have rails what do you think would be the best to work on jumping
Do you think a burton custom fv is an slright board for a beginner. Not to catchy?
You should make a video on how to tail block or one on 360 hand drags
Are u flat foot going off and if so when do u go flat foot because i dont want to catch an edge
hey dude if u want i think you could do a video on how to hit natural features and drop cliffs and stuff.
Cool stuff
Where do you snowboard at? looks like a great area. I might need to take a trip there sometime.
backflip video is in the works! I just have to get my footage in to kevin! We have some stuff planned for the summer!!
When I first hit a jump I didn't like going fast and I could only turn heelside. So I YOLOed it and made it with ease
May I ask an question that Which type of jump it’s easiest for doing 360 , Ollie or pop ?
when i land flat i always lose my balance. so i like to land on my edge is there any problem with landing this way?
You want to land straight flat and almost immediately use the edge right after
+bbqatryans
Last time I was trying to land a jump from a ramp, I almost broke my nose. I really do not know, why I can't land the jump.
100% you are leaning back and land on back leg
I used to have the opposite problem where I'd end up with my board behind me superman-ing my way down to a face-first landing :-) I solved it by trying to keep my weight above the centre of my board and yes, popping just before the lip rather than just riding over the edge. Hi can you quickly explain how to pop off the lip. I think I'm doing something wrong as I can't seem to generate height off the jump or on flats. Thanks
i sometimes have trouble going forward my board does something like a skid and fall of xD
im getting the hang of it now
thanks for the tip. Quick question - you're getting a lot of lift off flat ground. I'm def not getting at the height level. I thinking its my boots being too heavy. Could it be that or could it be that my approach to jumping is not correct?
It could be one of two reasons, your board doesn't have very good pop, or either your not bending your knees and jumping high enough
joelsonny boards too heavy
Thx but could you tell me more about how to land it? I often catch an edge and fall when landing. Do you land flat or on an edge?
Robs Tech Channel i hate it when i have a faultt landing
Hi, thanks for the video! Are you supposed to keep your legs straight as you approach the jump, and only bend your knees when you're in the air? Basically, am I the one to kick myself off into the air or just ride off the lip into the air?

What do you think of the never summer sl rocker?
Kevin the only problem I have is with some natural drop ins or rocks I jump off of when I land I always tomahawk it into the powder any suggestions ?
Sky'sVlogs put more weight on your back foot when in powder
last year I learned thru trail and error on jumps. some good tips from fellow riders and your videos have really helped thanks I'm having so much fun as an older (54) rider #artrazz
What if its off a jump on the side? Would you still jump evenly or ollie off a jump?
Hi Kevin, thank you very much for this and all other videos. I had a question about take off. Are you suppose to pop of like in ollie or not?
That is an abnormally graceful pop..
Dose it go the same for kickers
what do u think about bataleon boards?
Do you have to physically jump and suck your knees up or is like jumping on a trampoline? I'm pretty new to snowboarding just trying to get an understanding.
How do you know when to pull your knees up?
Do you land flat or on an edge can't really tell (sorry if this is a stupid question)
Nick Thorpe You land flat, but will use your edge shortly after to control you speed.
SnowboardProCamp would this be the same for landing after rails/ boxes? land flat?
50nollieman yes
50nollieman When you land on boxes/rails its very important to land completely flat.
Hey which brand is that brown jacket?
Airblaster
where I have to put the weight at the end of the jump?
I have an issue where I try and pop evenly on both feet but when I go off the jump my board and feet go behind me as opposed to having my knees move upward towards my chest. I think it may be because I'm popping too early. I've heard that you should pop when the front foot is already off the edge of the jump. Any tips? Thanks!
Swinging your arms is your body trying to get you balanced in the air. Just work on having a more balanced take off.
Hey man, I have a question. This winter I'm about to try some jumps. When you approach a jump, after your speed checks, when you are going straight, do you lean slightly on an edge to jump or do you have your feet completely flat?
Your snowboard should be going straight and completely flat. Test this out as you ride down a slope to see how it feels.
where I have to put the weight at the end of the jump? on the back leg or front??? thanks
You want to try and land level on each foot.
This should be an ollie or both knees at once ? please tell me :)
+Michał Sielczak-Rum Both knees at once to start. Easier to stay level that way.
Yaaaay!! U guys are awesome!
Great videos dude. My big concern is letting the board run flat, popping up, and landing back down without catching an edge during the setup and landing. Suggestions?

Going straight and flat can be difficult on your snowboard. It takes a lot of balance and practice. My advice is to practice it on you dry slope until you're super comfortable with it before trying a jump.
What if my jump has a little boy mps that could mess me up? How would I land it or work the jump
does snowboarding take a while to get a hang of im starting in a few weeks and going to get around 10 hours of lessons before just taking advice from friends , how long do you think it will take to get used to jumps?
It depends on how quickly you pick it up. It could be a day or a year. The more you put into it the more you'll get out.
Hey so how do you know when to pop off the jump?
You want to pop just before your get to the lip of the jump.
do you lean on your heels or toes just before hitting the jump?
You should have a soft tor edge engaged. also depends on the truck
also that is why you should have you last speed check be a heal side check so it sets you up to have a slight toe side edge.
what size is your board @snowboardprocamp
Any advice on hitting bigger jumps?
Yea...do it
HELP what is the angle of the binding setup here to do this kind of jump? thnx
My binding setup is + 15 in the front and -13 in the back. You can check out my video on snowboard set up here: How to Set Up your Snowboard Stance - Snowboard Gear Tips

Ride a lot! And try to squat so hard that your arms are really close to touch the base of your nose and tail
I'm perfectly good at doing smaller jumps but when I try ones even a bit bigger I have a REALLY hard time staying balanced in the air(I almost got a concussion yesterday because of it)any tips on this?
Can i do basic jumps with a all mountain board?
Yep
I think doing a grab tips would be helpful for me
Thanks Guy... Whenever I try any sort of jump, I fall backward on landing. Could you help me out with some advise...You videos are the best on here.
I had the same problem. Keep your shoulders in line with the board. Otherwise it turns with your shoulders

Thanks Fireworkluver99 I finally got the 35
How do you get so much air when just jumping on the flat ground. When I try to just jump I get like 4 inches of air
That's a good start!
thanks this helped alot :D I am going snowboarding in big bear on Thursday. I have been in intermediate lessons and have done about 3 or 4 lessons. Do you think I am advanced enough to do this?
Start small and work your way up. Do you hit small jumps outside the park?
I've hit a jump before and started to roll unintentionally toward my back and just landed flat on my back, how could I prevent that or correct it in the air if it happens again?
I am no expert but I think if you pop off both feet evenly with your board running flat, this will set up you up for a better landing.
