After two weeks of searching, this gas been the best advice. Don’t even change your spark plugs - compression test it first, fuel psi, then electrical

I recently went through a P0303 code - I decided to run some fuel system cleaner through the tank after doing some trouble shooting. I cleared the code and ran it, I used the Chevy fuel system cleaner plus and a can of seafoam - The engine had been idling a bit rough but it smoothed right out and I could see my gas gauge wasn't moving as fast as it was AND the code has not come back... In my case I think I've just got to clean my injectors... If it comes back I'll be doing the compression test - Great video

Hey Mike! Love your Astro videos. I don't explain my fix or what I discovered once I found zero compression in #2 but it was certainly leaking out that intake valve. After I pulled the rockers and push rods out i discovered that valve stem sat 4mm higher than the others. The seat couldn't be worn or damaged to that depth on such a low kms Vortec. That would mean something catastrophic. I couldn't see anything like that eyeballing the port. I did a leak down test on thar valve with WD40 and it held well over 24 hours. I guessed that someone replaced a valve, one with a longer stem. The stock length of push rod wouldn't let the valve close. I ordered a shorter rod, put it back together and had instant compression!

Good info thanks I have safari 2000 and it smokes white when first running it and low on power starting off. So I'm going to do the competition test

White smoke might mean one of the head gaskets are bad and letting coolant into the cylinders on start up. Check your oil. If it looks like chocolate milk its the head gasket.

Great explanations about what you're doing. Looking forward to watching you tear the valve cover off! :P

Hi There. I have owned 7 awd astro/safari over the years and i had exact problem you have on one of them. It turned out to be the fuel spider under the air intake . the lines are made of plastic and get brittle with the heat of the engine and start dumping fuel into the air intake. This was/is why the computer is trying to trim fuel supply. Did it myself but is not super simple as one has to work from the hood and from the dog house to get to parts.
The Spider incorporates the fuel pressure regulator and the injector activation solenoids. I am interested to see what you find on your van. Cheers.

Hi. My spider is new. The issue with #2 cylinder was zero compression which, after doing leak down test, made me think the intake valve wasn't closing at all.

I just threw a p0300. I’m going to start with my compression test as well. These are great tips on what to look for when you are checking where the air is coming from. Best part? I have everything do this! Great video. 🎉

Good morning, did you ever post another video showing how you fixed this issue. I have an 01 Astro and I have no compression on cylinder 3. Want to know how I should go about fixing the issue.
Amazing video by the way. Thank for your help thus far.

Just ran this test on my 01 4.3 astro cylinder 4 compression was 105 psi and then when adding air its coming out the intake like yours what should i do next replace seals or pull the head ?

You pumped air into #4? Did you position #4 at TDC so both valves are (should be) closed?

If you loose compression in more than 1 cylinder could it possibly be the same problem.

Try to determine if leaking past the rings, head gasket, intake valve or exhaust valve. Did the mechanic determine this?
