    Autonomous, meaning not just unmanned, but also no pilot flying it remotely. This was taking off and landing on a carrier while completely flying itself.
    More like a point and click interface. Takeoff, climb to X. Fly to here and orbit at X altitude, etc.

    We don't talk about the X-47B. In September 2021 a new picture of the RQ-180 ISR aircraft surfaced. It was photographed flying over Philippine air. Then ya had the Lockheed RQ-170 'Sentinel' affectionately referred to as 'The Beast of Kandahar'. 🦛🦏

    I guess what other people around the world don't understand about our American government is that when we publish the cost of a program, we are not just publishing the cost of each individual plane, drone, or whatever; but rather the total cost from the minute someone proposes a concept to the research, design, manufacturing of parts, the assembly, the prototypes, the testing, the additional modifications needed, the additional testing and modification, and finally the production of the proposed operational prototype for final testing.
    So, if the final assembly of the X-47B for final operational tests might be 50 million, the TOTAL cost to get to that point might be 1.5 billion.
    The cost of each F-35 today is about $80 million, but the total cost from concept to operational production is over a trillion dollars over 30 years. There is a huge difference between total program costs and the ultimate cost of each operational delivery.
    And so you have to ask, was the total program costs with the government making constant design changes as they did in the B-2 program and others ultimately worth of the advanced technologies it eventually fielded for our military? That question will ultimately be answered if that technology is engaged in a near peer war. If the F-22, F-35, B-2, B-21, NGAD, and FA-XX reign supreme in a near peer conflict, was it worth the investments or should we have just relied on our old technologies?

    The largest squadron of drone pilots serves in the middle of nowhere in Nevada on military owned land. It’s wild there 2 operators to each drone piloting , they show up for work at a massive parking lot of metal storage shipping containers . Open the door and rotate with the previous crew which often means taking over flight of their drone mud air. There’s a pilot , and weapon systems /sensor operator . Both can do either crew job. Inside the container you’d think you’re in a Conan’s center of a submarine, tons of tech screens and no windows. They are not assigned a specific drone for their depkoyment. The USAF has them all over the world , you just enter some military link codes to take command of a drone and crews there will already be loading it up. 2 operators will receive orders and mission package, may be conducting overwatch in Syria, training in Georgia , transporting a drone accross earth back home , or fighter operations. It’s wild that whether u see a US Reaper of others drones , the pilots are opposite side of the Middle East flying it in a container. They are already conducting tests of AI pilots as it’s more efficient & one less riak

      Jack Northrop had 5 flying wings, 4 bomber and 1 fighter built and flying before WWII, in 1939...5 years before those two FRAUDS, the Horton Brothers even tried building a flying wing. Theirs flew once and crashed killing the pilot by the way. But the angle of the "wing" and the wingspan of the B-2 is exactly the same as Northrops original flying wings.

    Stealth refueling is going to be huge when NGAD family drones and piloted aircraft need to loiter over a combat zone. I think most of NGAD is going to be subsonic because I believe the idea is to have eyes on everything and air to surface weapons constantly dotting the map so that visual information, radar and other intelligence can be acted upon immediately.
    I imagine the US military being able to create air dominance that won't allow a near-peer 5'th gen aircraft to take off, it will be able to play Whack-A-Mole with any mobile air defense that pops up, provide air support to ground troops (including reconnaissance), offensive bombing, electronic warfare, etc.
    The only way to fight it will be to overwhelm it with a huge number of targets, like a wave of several thousand small weaponized drones.
    At that point the only solution for NGAD will be directed energy weapons with essentially unlimited ammo and speed of light operation to prevent any type of effective countermeasure.
    I kind of doubt NGAD will have that last piece so the US military will still have at least one weakness but when they get that last piece, they will be able to control any war zone. The only other traditional attack left will be things like submarine launched ICBMs and other attacks from outside the war zone. So we still need missile defense over our territory but we have most of that capability unless somebody makes undetectable stealth cruise missiles or real hypersonics.
    The non-traditional attacks we will still be vulnerable to are cyber attacks, sleeper cell terrorism and political interference.

  • @jkoll42
    @jkoll42 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    I'll say this about how advanced the tech is with the US military. First, we don't know what is *actually* in the weapons as far as capabilities. We still don't actually know the true top speed of the SR-71 and the first batch was ordered 60 years ago and the last flight was 25 years ago. I had the privilege through my work to speak with an Admiral with the US nuclear sub program and the current classes of subs being built are planned to have a 40 year operational span and the technology being put into them is projected to exceed our adversaries technologies 40 years from now as they are replaced with the next round. Think about that. They are using tech that is expected to be 40 years ahead of other countries. It's wild.

  • @helopilotr
    @helopilotr 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    I have to say the theory that the NGAD Program will sport unmanned jets is basically a fact at this point. Drones are incredibly useful and effective force enhancers as well as decoys. In any dogfight scenario usually the biggest issue is the amount of G-Force on a human body, which could also be eliminated if the aircraft is unmanned. The only actual interesting bit will be, if the descision to kill will be in the pilots hands or could be made by an algorithm
    You could have separate optics drones equipped with just incredibly capable optics and tatgeting systems, possibly with extemely high loiter times. Then you could have additional weapons plattforms, basically a wingman drone to carry more weapons for you. You could have decoys or Kamikaze drones... At this point the possiblities really are endless. I wouldn't be surprised if the amount of UAVs to Manned airctaft will be around 20 to 1 for the UAVs with the manned aircraft being the central control hub of sorts.

    It doesn’t make sense to dump a $1B into an autonomous drone the size of manned jets. They need to refocus on like 8-10ft foldable drones that can be fired out of missile tubes by the hundreds instead. Maybe a few hour flight time capability and a fairly limited payload. Incorporate AI into swarm hive procedures instead to saturate the skies.
    If you ever read “Ready Player One”, the author has another book called “Armageddon” that is all about mass produced drones being utilized to fight an alien invasion, I think those types of drones are what’s needed. Not these massive, bulky and expensive one off units.
