I used to think that the ideal phone camera reviewer would be someone who would dive deep into the hyper details of the camera performance. Your video changed my mind. It has the perfect balance of demonstrating and simply explaining raw performance, as well as how most actual people will use the camera, which is to post to social media platforms and other casual uses. The last two astrophotography shots made my jaw drop. If the iphone 12 can't match that I'm getting the pixel.
Pixel phones do portraits best. 11 Pro Max got close though. Each year Pixels do Portraits best, but the competition is closing in. Plus I think Pixels with Google Photos works together. I'll take a shot that looks blurry as it was rushed and my son would be moving. Within seconds it's a great shot. The Pro Max needs to be dead still and subject steady to get close.
I have a Pixel (personal) and iPhone 11 Pro Max (work). The iPhone can’t keep up with the Pixel’s astrophotography and night sight shots.
I know me too, like I said in the video I still can’t believe I can take photos like that on a PHONE 😂 so good!

iPhone much better for video, but photo capabilities about the same.

Great video! The camera is what keeps me on Pixel, and I’m happy so see someone who actually knows what they’re doing taking a look at it-as opposed to so many tech reviewers who don’t spend the time actually demoing things well.

That AI portrait light is INSANE. I really hope they put the telephoto back for a future phone, even if it means it has 3 lenses like other phones. I never find myself wishing I could "step back" on phones. Usually it's "Oh look at that! I wish I could zoom in more." as the default lens is a wide angle already.
Three lenses are the perfect number. No need for useless macro or dept sensors.
I need ultra wide for interior pics of my decorating! I have the iphone 11 but the low light ultra wide is not good at all. I am interested in the pixel beacuse if this.
Ultrawide is better than telephoto as there is no software replacement for an ultrawide but there is for telephoto. And before you say it no a panorama mode does not achieve the same results as an ultrawide.
@@bradleybfb depth sensors just make the bokeh/autofocus better and more DSLR-like, and macro could be achieved by adding a motor to the ultrawide lens. Imo telephoto for portrait, wide workhorse, ultrawide landscapes and macro would be the best, but knowing google there's no way they'll do it...
Very good complete review. But honestly I felt like all of the original photos looked way better than the edited ones. I don't know why people are so obsessed with editing everything. Keep it natural.
The edited photos looked over sharpened but besides that they look way better. The moody tones and colors are more pleasing to the eye even if not realistic.
I agree the edited photos look like iphone photos, too warm, but that's how people like their portraits on Instagram.

Thank you! It’s just personal preference :) I really love the editing process of my photography I find it fun playing around with colours and giving different looks to my photos. I’m not ashamed of my SOOC shots though, I pretty much always include them in my videos too!
@@juliatrotti yes it definitely is personal preference. And trust me I'm not hating on anybody who edits. It is definitely fun. I'm just one of the people who loves natural photos.
It looks like you are the first one to describe about astrophotography on Google Pixel 5. If I'm wrong then either way, thank you so much for the quick and detailed review. Your work is truly appreciated! Was that second picture of the stars edited by the way or did you just take it directly? And is the settings as same as Pixel 4 to get these kinds of pics?

I don't understand why that is so hard to? We all use either whatsapp or facebook message anyway 🤷🏽♀ I've came out of it and i didn't miss anything and from a solid iPhone fan, trust me, android is better! Once you used google assistance you'll never like siri ever again! 😳 and google facilities are much better such as google storage/cloud, google map, google calendar.... So on is just a lot smarter and connects to each other better than human do! Because of google tools i could never go back to apple. It is just wayyyyy smarter! 😳 and I'm not even using google pixel. All adriods uses google's tools so... 🤷🏽♀ but I've cheated by installed google pixel's api onto the android device of my choice. And google pixel's camera honestly destroyed every single phone camera out there and i think even DSLR to certain extens. I hope that helps 🤷🏽♀
Did you see the iPhone event yesterday? The Pro Max is considerably better than this. LiDAR, 65mm telephoto lens, 10 bit Dolby Vision HDR video and Apple Pro RAW is going to be awesome too. iPhone 12 has better hardware and software.

Thank you for sharing! I think google did a great job with the camera, considering the price point. I myself have the pixel 4a and I'm very happy with it. I don't take many pictures on it but the camera is a huge improvement from my pixel 3a. That picture of the sky, is so amazing!

It amazes me on how a very tiny camera/lens can take such great and amazing photos. Yet 1 professional camera body/lens is huge, and while superior the gap is becoming less and less noticable especially on Social Media.

Loved the camera impressions vlog of the pixel 5. Very thorough and great to hear this from someone who’s actual Camera experience. I currently own the iPhone 11 pro Max which in itself has a great camera. However tho Astro photography shots were stunning 😍 Love IPhone and am interested in the 12 pro Max coming out shortly and will be interesting if it can get close to those shots.

Super review , the last phone I had was a Sony Xperia I have just upgraded to the Pixel 5 my only criteria is that the camera is excellent with plenty of extra features ... The Astrophotography mode is" out of this world ".

Great review, probably one of the best I have seen in terms of hands on. Only feedback would be to use term "Zoom" rather than telephoto as it doesn't have telephoto lens

I've been pondering and pondering about buying either the #iphone12pro OR #googlepixel5 and seems like I can't make up my mind....
The iPhone 12 Pro looks GORGEOUS and the Pixel looks better than what it used to 😂
I bought the Google Pixel when it FIRST came out and I loved it but, through out the years I've been buying Samsung phones.
I know how AMAZING the Pixel is with Photography, that's why it's hard for me to decided whether I should follow the majority of Photographers and go for the iPhone 12 Pro or go with the Pixel 5.
Please help 😂 I am leaning toward the Pixel because of how good Google has made their software processing. Sorry for this long comment 😂

Cloudy is good for photoshoot, try do photoshoot here in Malaysia you won't be able to get good shot most of then time because of our weather. Sun is very bright, hard to get good dynamic range your face will be blown out or darken
I can't wait to get my Pixel 5 at the end of the month. I chose the Sage color.
Have you been curious to try out the Sony phone just for the camera? It's like they took all of their Alpha line mirrorless cameras and crammed it into their latest Sony phone.
