From what we have learned so far, coins will be coming out with Charles on to start with but both the Queens notes and Charles will be running side by side for a while. So I’m assuming they won’t be in a rush to change postage just yet.
I'm in the uk. I just bought a anbernic handheld device that cost £209.99. The seller immediately messages me saying they have collected the 20% VAT in advance and will refund me the money once the item is delivered to me. This is all new to me btw. I get a message saying, Royal mail has my package but is being held because the customs fee hasn't been paid. Now, do i pay that customs fee then get my money back via the refund?. If so, why did they take the 20% VAT if they had no intention of paying it only to refund me later? Makes no sense
Thank you so much for your help with customs problem. I paid the tax on Ebay at the time of purchase. The shipment arrives from outside the EU. I received a declaration from Customs asking me to pay the taxes again! Not going to happen!
Jon - Great advice. You probably saved me and my future customers by providing this info. I sell internationally and use PS as well. And, yes... I too haven't used that tax field "YET", but I will from now on. Thanks again. 👍
Excellent video and thanks for sharing this topic. I have seen this code on international orders in the shipping address and had no clue what that was!! From now on I'll add that number in that exporter tax ID number. So, how's the Christmas tree looking. LOL??!!
Most my stuff mostly goes to Canada or Australia. But wife had a sale on Etsy going to Sweden and it said to make sure to enter the Exporter Tax ID of xyz for international sales. I've also been under the impression the buyer can show the invoice or something to show that the tax has already been paid. But guess that's not the case?
Hey Jon. Another great video. You are quite granular with all your content and it really is helpful I may never need to encounter the situation but at least I know so thanks for that. On another note I've been reaching out to you on some past videos and lives with a message regarding getting together during the conference coming up this following week from the 10 to the 14th. As I mentioned I would like to take you out to dinner and get a chance to meet you in person. Please get back to me on that. Always appreciate all that you do. Regards Mike from NY
Canada Post has a place to put the IOSS number or whatever country its going on the site when creating the label. Took like a year for them to add that field but thankfully there now lol! RTS from Europe to Canada usually takes 3-5 months, you will eventually likely get it back, RTS is low priority and they get to it when they get to it.
I've Made A Couple Sales Through GSP & Attempted To Go Through Pirate Ship, But When Customs Forms Showed Up, Had No Idea Where To Go Next So Just Sent Through eBay. 1 In Particular I Sold A Razor Trike To Venezuela And Was Dumbfounded That They Paid Nearly Double For That Item To Get Imported. Moral Of Story Be It When It Comes To GSP I'll Stick With Ebay's Label To Save Discrepancy
Same. I started selling online in February; the learning curves are numerous. I only sell 30-40 items a month at this point, so even if I'm overpaying for my shipping it's a nominal amount. As sells increase, I'll start learning about shipping and the money-saving options. But until then I'm content to get my labels from EBay.
Customs told me that ebay should, according to the deal done with Norwegian customs, report to them that this person has paid tax on this shipment (tracking no). However ebay does NOT do this. So when seller does not put on the VOEC code I have to pay tax twice. Where do I go from there?
@@jmp01a24 you can contact eBay and voice your concern (they really should be adding this to their labels). As far as getting compensated I don’t really think there is any recourse
It varies honestly. I've been going back and fourth especially since it has gone up a dollar. It's worth checking both each time you ship something just for more profits. Usually when there is a discount pirate will have it as well but I have ran into at-least one instance where Pirate did not have the discount and ebay did. So I think splitting the money between the two helps but also I kind of prefer my shipping to be taken out on the front end rather than sending a charge to my bank account so ebay I like the system better ever since they left paypal but, still not likely worth losing a whole dollar of profit especially if you're doing a lot of small orders.
HMRC acronym will stay the same, it just changes from Her Majesty Revenue Customs to His Majesty Revenue Customs when written in full. FYI from the UK 😃
It’s an IOSS in the UK. However EBay makes it really to find if your not using their shipping. I have a large letter for the US and through eBay’s shipping, the only option is Parcel Force which is ridiculous at £35.00 odd. Hence I have to take it to the Post Office which will cost less than half.
Hey Jon Just shipped a item to France using Pirate Ship, this time I put the IOSS # on. The other thing I found out you need to put in a Harmonization #. Did not know what that was. But Pirate Ship has a search engine to help find one. Just another tip so other sellers will know about
This is exactly why I don't ship anywhere but the United State and Puerto Rico. Too many complications if you're shipping it directly, and too expensive for the customer if you're using GSP.
hey jon i have had a similar experience a while ago and learned quickly that if its an overseas order i always use the platform it sold on to ship the item as this avoids that problem or you can also register your business with your tax office which you already have but you can apply for the right export number which in our case here in uk was free to obtain and you can use that where the absent numbers appear from time to time since then no more issues
I send some very cheap paper items to Europe occasionally, and I just use a postage stamp, but I always make sure to put the VAT info under the address so that the item is not held by customs or the buyer is asked to pay more tax. So far, there has not beqen a problem as far as I know. But I'm not sure if I'm doing this properly or not. I know eBay doesn't like non-tracked items, but I take the hit and make the sale (European buyers would have to pay $12 for tracking, but I charge them $3 for a stamp).
I sent one out through international but I think I will use the GSP from here on out. I was very very hesitant because I received a low ball offer through GSP initially declined it because it wasn't telling me they'd have to pay shipping as I had the item free shipping for US. International is a lot more expensive and from what I've heard GSP has an extra layer of protection it's just scary getting offers on a free shipping item at first but the free shipping will only apply to the state side shipment of it then it GSP covers the rest however I'm not certain that this won't get you into trouble with profits say you sell something for $30 free shipping through GSP but it has $70 shipping, will you even make $10 off of that transaction? Not sure if GSP shipping has the same affect on profits and it can be frustrating dealing with offers that could make you loose money, like selling the item could actually cost you and not even make profit assuming it was something that cost you $0 even that's one thing that becomes extremely confusing when trying to do free shipping with global enabled. Maybe I'll get kind of a ballpark figured out soon on it or maybe I should just not accept lowballs at all from overseas.
Hello, I bought something from EBay that’s overseas and I didn’t know, I bought something that from Japan and I’m from the Usa. The item that I bought coast $89.66. When my item arrives to my house do I need to pay again like the custom duty?
That is exactly why I always printed international labels through Ebay. I was always afraid I would miss something. I see a new video in the future. I know Ebay is replacing their global shipping program to Ebay international. I read Ebay international will offer paid and not paid vat taxes to international buyers. I wonder if that will be good, so the buyers do not have to pay as much up front, or bad in that some international buyers may not realize they may have to pay vat taxes later. As far as I understand that sellers will still have the same protections as the GSP. A video explaining everything would be nice. Maybe I misread something.
I live in Norway, and every seller that not provided VOEC number will automatically receive a negative feedback from me with description no VOEC… so learn from this video and get happy customers 😉
I am so disappointed and discusted by ebay. Idk why my buyer paid 80 for my 60 offer plus 25 shipping and i am only recieving 49. my net is 65. i do not understand why I am buying the shipping label when the customer already had purchased it so therefore I understand all the fees the net fees and things like that I do not understand where the $15 that the buyer paid for went why is it coming out of my net proceeds can you please tell me this I am so upset with eBay I contacted customer service and asked for a manager or supervisor to email me and contact me because I want this on paper and explain to me exactly where my fees are I just use the app and I still do not understand the numbers don’t add up. there is no reason why I’m not getting $65 based off the $80 there is about a $10 fees plus a three dollar promotion fee. LIKE CAN U HELP ANSWER THIS? WHY DID The buyer pay $15 where is that $15!?! customer service says that they don’t collect the buyer paying shipment fee So then why am I even charging him if I’m gonna have to pay for it I do not understand this I am never going to sell on eBay again and I seriously am so disgusted I am a marketing major I work in retail and this company is robbing it sellers and it’s buyers

There’s no HMRC Number I’m looking is there any where else it can be ?.
I just use GSP. That way everyone is protected. For a few dollars saved on a 3rd party shipping it isn't worth losing the item and getting a negative.

GSP this number is added by the warehouse in KY.

How much cheaper is pirate shipping than first class?
It’s at least a few dollars cheaper than ebay international first class for the lightest of packages. Not sure how much for packages over a pound.

I envisage HMRC will stay and referred to “His Majesty …. “

I stopped shipping internationally years ago when someone scammed a pair of shoes from me. Nope, keeping it local now.

Thank you SO much. I had no idea!
Couldn’t this customer have shown his eBay invoice that shows that his VAT was already paid?
Great info, Jon!
It's because Norway is not in the EU.
I live in Norway, and every seller that not provided VOEC number will automatically receive a negative feedback from me with description no VOEC… so learn from this video and get happy customers 😉
Now you need to reg the VOEC (Norway) electronically or the customer get the extra vat anyway…
This was SO helpful, thx!
