there is hope moms. my son addicted screen. no name respons, no eye contact, no social skill. i stopped when he was 3y8m, now he is 4y6m. he become so nice talky litle boy, perfect eye contact and fast name respons.
the rest are, hyperactivity still there but reduced alot and weak social skill.
so far as i know, the big difference between classic and virtual autism is about sensory. virtual autism doesn't have any sensory issues, such as picky food, repetitive behaviour, avoiding some clothes, doesn't want to have hair cut or nail cut.
hope my litle note spreading hope for us.
what i do to help him in recovery are :
    1. stop screen time at all
    2. play alot with him
    3. give a lot of story books and todler comics than reading together with him
    4. kindergarden 3days a week
    5. put some sound that help to calm, can be classic music or religion soun. in my case, im muslim so i put quran on foe 24 hours

@@nadiaafridi1906 Yes they are drops. Eliminate the screentime and do a lot of plays for gross motor and fine motor skills. When you read books with your child, do not read talk about what you are seeing like "The Car is red, the car drives brum brum, the car drives on the street" like this. (Sorry for my englisch, i live in Switzerland) Talk about everything you see. Kids need a lot if repetition to learn. Your son ist 18 months, this is great. I didnt notice unteil mine was 2,5 years.
You have to go out and give your sons tasks like everyday the same (for the language) unteil he understands, theb give others. My daughter didnt understand a lot. Now shes 3,5 year, she speaks in fully sentences, plays so much roleplay and understands everything!

my daughter was 3.6 months old and had autism symptoms like no eye contact, and no name response, playing with toys and books most of the time as she started watching TH-cam rhymes starting 1.2 months to 3 years, and we stopped screen time at 3.4 and started speech therapy. Within 1 month, her eye contact came 100%, responded to her name. She also says her name when we asked what is your name. she pointing everything what she sees and makes her own sentences to describe the things, asking about her needs also. she remember all people names. she knows all emotions now but sometimes she repeats things but when we go out we can't control her. she always pull the things around her and she does not listen to people but she can mimic what they are doing and describes the surrounding things but won't communicate with them until they give something to her. she also points and says to things like if airplane is plying and follow the instructions .is she can be a back to normal child?

      Thank you for sharing this.
The way you describe your daughter's progress, her development is going well.
Please give her time to open up in social settings. As for the behaviour of getting excited, it is part of childhood when kids want to explore everything. Kindly create a way in which you either hold her hand when appropriate or let her carry a toy (noy screen) to keep her busy.
      She will be fine.

Dear mam , Such a wonderful differentiation and to the point . My daughter currently 3 year her eye contact has always been best until now , around 18m we saw her respond to name totally stopped but she do come to us when we tell her we put tv , will give mobile . Just with name she dont. Exactly around 2.5 yrs - i stopped screen time to Zero . She started looking at us asking everything one one. She now can say any words , she corrects when we sing wrong , but functional language not developed. Around 2.10 months she started responding to name slowly. Now the consistency improved 80% and 100% with commands . Eye contact , she look at us say something or other whole day . She follow simple commands like go get the thing while play , come for food , go abd sit un your chair , get remote etc . She points at TV and ask rhymes by telling . She recently learned jumping so she keeps jumping . When excited she stimms on and off . She is currently undergoing speech therapy . Mam , what's your thoughts here ? Also , inside home she responds and makes great eye contact - but outsiders she does not do much , but improving much. Her speech therapist told - she responds twice in 30 minutes session , she kept goal 4 times. They said her receptive language is delayed . One thing i noticed recently is she is biting toys sometimes licks smooth surfaces in book or wall . don't know why and what should i do mam ?

      Hello
It does appear that your daughter has a language delay, receptive is because her responses got delayed which may be due to screen time exposure or lack of social interaction.
If she bites and licks certain objects, please get her checked for nutritional deficiencies as she is looking specific surfaces only.

This happened to my 16 months old daughter. I had a very stressful job and put her in front of a tablet up to 6 to 7 hrs a day. We started noticing that she stopped responding to her name and her eye contact became poor. We panicked and I quit my job to stay home with both kids. We reduced the screen time to 1 hr a day and within 2 weeks she came back. She was only saying 3 words at age 20 months to saying up to words to 60 words by the time she was 22 months old!! Reducing the screen time completely shocked us.

My son was heavily exposed to screen when he was 15-18 months old. He spoke 8-10 words. I reduced his screen time and he started learning again. When he was around 23-28 months old he was exposed to screens again. He was almost unresponsive at 29 months. Now we removed screens. He is responding better but still has a long way to go. You are lucky your child showed early symptoms kuz at that age recovery is real fast. My son didn't have any noticeable symptoms until he turned 23 months old. Sadly, it'll take him much more time to recover.

I'm wondering if my son has this.
We suspected he might have ADHD, he was quite talkative and constantly interrupts others conversations, but then suddenly he stopped talking at 6yrs old. The change in behavior was quite sudden. He would not make eye contact, and any response we can force out of him are usually limited to a yes or no, or short phrases at very low voice.
We had him checked by a pediatric neuro, who diagnosed him as having ADHD, but the sudden language regression is still under observation as it has only been a little over a month when he stopped talking.

    • @therapywithdrprabhjot

      Hello
If your son has reduced his talking secondary to screen time, then it may be virtual autism.
If his response has reduced, kindly rule out emotional stress or reduced interaction with peers as a cause.

I was too late knowing about this but still struggle to see if its classic or virtual autism. My son was normal/ social will play on swings till almost 2 years except for limited words. Even before this i was giving him hours of screen time. Our work plus me getting pregnant when he was 1 year old and covid came so him not seeing no one and no daycare put a toll on me that I gave him screen time more than 5 hours. When my sister lost job due to covid she got couple months and got time so she concentrated on his academics and taught him reading, numbers, animals/ birds/ shapes/ fruits/ vegetables / rymes etc.. he was very good at reading by 3 and half years old, But no full sentences to form conversation..So We went to the american school since they will give free speech therapy and they suspected mild autism. He has eye contact but his red flags are echolalia, hyperlexia, and he does play one on one with children but that was also poor social skill according to them. After this diagnosis only i learned more about virtual autism and started asking if they misdiagnosed my son or not. He looked shy to me but will warm up to strangers after some time. Now he is almost 5 and He is okey playing with 8 years to 10 years old due to them understanding him since he speaks limited. When its time to leave my son will go back and hug his favorite older brother (8 -10 yr ) he has received may be 6 months of speech therapy 2 times a week so far, he can’t hold conversation like if i ask how was school? Do you have friends? What did you learn? Then its hard to answer. He responds to his name well even if he is watching TV now. He is clear in wants and needs. He will say “ i need water, can i have chocolate please, lets go play upstairs, can i go outside and jump on trampoline.. etc. these are the improvements from speech therapy. He had meltdowns at 4.5 years but it reduced to almost zero now he got more words, the only abnormal part except speech now is clapping hands when he gets bored and repeating what he learned in school/ tv( delayed echolilia🤔)also feels like some developmental delays, but wondering if speech delay and excess screen time can cause developmental delays as well???School occupational therapist was saying he is not really bad that he is in borderline but took him in and will give 1 session every 8 weeks for the sake of the teacher who keep saying his hands are little week. he is Afraid of swings, but loves slides.
I didn’t diagnose him officially due to messed up american system just if his os very mild or if its a misdiagnosis it will end up not getting a good job in future cuse all you medical information is tied up to your background checks and social security card..
Last week i started to give supplemental speech therapy from outside 2 days 30 min session a week. That SLP did one hour non diagnostical evalv on him and said he have enough words for a 4.5 years old but has trouble connecting it into sentences and put the name expressive language disorder for insurance claim. I asked if he has any autism and she said she cannot diagnose it according to american law but can see some traits but not sure for real. Any way next month i am going to start supplemental occupational therapy as well. Do u think there is still a chance he can be normal? He is okey sharing his personal space but not too social, does virtual autism has these traits? The classic autistic symptoms of echolilia/ hand clapping and talking while walking when get boared would it be mimicked for a child who has sit at home for 2 years and not seeing anyone and have extreme screen time plus less coversation amoung us due to work or for real only autism can have these symptoms not virtual autism? Any ways he is improving but my question is approximately how many years for him to catch up? His academics are great according to teacher. Follows simple instructions but cannot handle complex sentences.
I have to wait till i come to india for proper diagnosis, but once again i hate my husbands people to compare him so we didnt come to india for past 3 years nd waiting to get his speech to conversation level so we can go
Do you do any virtual sessions from india???

      Hello
I have read your comment thoroughly and i appreciate ypur effort to want to egt your child independent while trying to take care of his needs.
As far as your child's functioning for speech, milestones and socialisation goes, it is NOT lagging considerably. It does seem like an after effect of screen time and less socialisation.
This can improve if he follows a regular program for about an year focusing on behaviour techniques, pragmatics of speech and social skills training.
As for your last query, yes I do conduct online sessions. If you wish to further discuss with me, please contact at prabhjotot2004@gmail.com

can an older child be afflicted with virtual autism?
my son was already 6-1/2 years old when he had language regression, became non-conversant, lost the ability to make eye-contact, stopped playing with other kids. prior to that, he was very smart, can speak almost 3 languages, can do simple math, can read and write.
the doctor diagnosed him with CDD as it was the closest match to his symptoms, but my son didn't lose bladder and bowel control, nor did he lose the ability to walk.
I can see him matching the symptoms you've discussed, except for the age? so does virtual autism only affect toddlers?

    • @therapywithdrprabhjot
      @therapywithdrprabhjot  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hello
CDD could be a possibility but would you relate the regression of your son's social, play and communication abilities to excessivr screen time and reduced social interaction including parent- child interaction?

    • @xtian36
      @xtian36 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

it's hard to say, since his symptoms started when school ended. he was spending more time using his tablet, practically the whole day.
I would describe him as hyperactive prior to his autism symptoms presenting, quite talkative and would constantly interrupt other people's conversations, stands up and runs out of his classroom, kicks the seat in front of him in class. which is why initially he was initially diagnosed with ADHD.
then when he started getting quiet, we just assumed he was learning to behave himself. however, the doctor said his inattentive was presenting, making him a combined type ADHD.
but within a month, he became non-conversant, lost eye contact, lost social skills. and when the new school year started, his symptoms became more prominent, even developed stims like hand-flapping. every now and then he will say some random words we can understand, but generally won't speak to anyone anymore.
it's basically like a late onset of autism, as he is 6-1/2 years old, ergo the CDD diagnosis.
however, I do wonder if virtual autism is something that a 6 year old can get?

    • @therapywithdrprabhjot
      @therapywithdrprabhjot  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

Yes it is a possibility but how his behaviours have changed over time is not completely in line with CDD either.
Is he using his tablet anymore?

    • @xtian36
      @xtian36 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

@@therapywithdrprabhjot he is still using it, but we have reduced his screen time, and lately he seems to get bored with the tablet, and he would stop using it on his own.
before, if we didn't take it away from him, he would use it the whole day.
to give you a brief timeline:
April 2023: end of school (Kindergarten), we noticed the change in behaviour, most noticeable is the language regression, speaking less and less
May 2023: became non-conversant, lost eye-contact, lost social skills.
June 2023: diagnosed with ADHD combined type, from being hyperactive to inattentive.
July 2023: new school year, start of 1st grade. Teacher reported to us that he would not speak and would stay seated the whole day in class. Would not talk with classmates, and hand-flapping became more prominent. after 2 weeks, we removed him from school and admitted him to the hospital for work-up. All tests came back negative or clear. Working diagnosis given is CDD.
August 2023: moved him to a Special Education school, and goes to OT (started in June) and ST (started in September) as recommended by doctor.
September 2023: hand-flapping has stopped, but developed a new stim, humming all day as if he is talking. We still hear some random words every now and then, but still non-conversant. The eye-contact has improved a little bit, unlike before where he would totally avoid, now he gives fleeting eye contact.

Hi Mam. I'm facing same issue for last 11 months. My daughter is now 2 years 10 Months old. We found that she is affected by Virtual Autism at her 1 year 11 months. Till her 1.5 years age she was good in social interaction, eye contacts and playing. But after that everything is stopped due to 7 to 8 hrs of mobile phone. We stopped the screening at her 2 years. And started interaction with her. Then i contact came back but not fully. She was developing well. Then we were lethargic that she is developing. Again we started concentrating on our works, parallelly we have interacted with her also but not enough i think. Screening is zero.
She is learning and forgetting, learning and forgetting. This is wat happening.
Initially lot of improvements was there, but then it is saturated. And new autistic symptoms are coming. Often regression is there.
Last 20 days we started putting her in speech therapy and OT.
I don't know this virtual autism is permanent or slowly it will get improve. If so how many years or months it will take.
Some times she is giving quick response and some times it is very poor. Receptive language also some times it is good and sometimes it is she couldn't understand.
    Pls reply

      Hello
      Thank you for the details.
Eye contact and aggressive behaviour do not confirm autism. Please work on your child's behaviour as his social skills and play skills seem to be limited. Also, if he has tantrums and meltdowns then it is usually reinforced by giving in to the child's wishes mostly.
You can refer to my videos on disruptive behaviours and behaviour management from the playlist of peditaric therapy.

Respected Mam, While 1 year old, my son was good at eye contact, speaking and social interaction. But at the age of 2.5 we realized he doesn't respond to name, no social smile or interaction due to 8 hours of screen time. We took him to grandparents house where there were 15 people and he lived there for 2 months. He started interacting and now he is 3 years and 4 months old. He understands all emotions, he makes sentences like let's go to kitchen, I want banana, i want that, it's mine and he responds to what, where questions and can convert some pronouns too. Social smile is good but social interaction is not that good. What do you recommend Mam?

      Hello
It appears she is still learning the meaning of words and vocabulary.
Try to work with the grammer with small sentences (3-4 words only).
Most important while talking to her use small sentences where she can follow them before giving her the next step.
Too many instructions confuse children and it is hard to figure out what to respond to or answer.

Aap agar uska screen time kam kar denge so use play mein interest badega aur socialisation mein bhi. Use regular parks ya playground mein leke jaiye.
Initially wo pareshan hoga screen time kam karne pe but use play mein involve kijiye.

It seems your child has developed a visual seeking behaviour as seeing moving wheels, moving bikes, movement in car is what she likes. That is why she cries when car stops as she cannot enjoy the moving vehicles passing by anymore.
You can work on activities where visual seeking is addressed.

It seems that your child has some oral motor problems which may have affected her speech also.
I can recommend Oral placement Therapy for this e.g. Chewy tubes can help in biting, chewing, horns and whistles to improve exhalation required for improving length of sentence spoken or number of words in a sentence.

    • @therapywithdrprabhjot
      @therapywithdrprabhjot  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hello
Regression is simply when a child in the initial months or years developed social- emotional and communication skills by age.
However, if there were limited socialization opportunities with added screen time, the child may regress in their development which forms the basis of virtual autism.
Classical autism presents as delayed development of communication, social skillns with additional sensory needs as it has a neurological basis.

It does appear that your child has a response but but expression and receptive has not developed yet. He may be responding to your facial expressions.
As you say he has eye contact and no obvious sensory or repetitive behaviours, please rule out any hearing issue and, hoping it is not, you may work on his receptive language that is understanding what you say to facilitate his speech.

In Speech if the child learns words but either does not understand the context of using them OR is not able to use them on a regular basis as gestures are enough to get things done, then the child reverts to not talking.

My daughter, before 2.5, she was perfectly alright.. used to speak a few words and was a happy kid.. covid time changed our life.. she started to watch lots of tv.. because of covid situation, we never took her out to play with other kids.. we were so scared if she got covid.. coming to the current situation, we enrolled her in a daycare 3 months back.. but she is not interested in playing with any kids.. she likes to be around her caretakers.. she speaks very minimum words.. doesn't follow any commands .. if I call her name, she won't respond .. but if I call her name along with her favorite food name, then she looks and comes towards us... poor eye contact also.. we stopped her screen time to zero around 3 months back (same time she joined playschool).. she totally adjusted with it.. but she is in her own world without following any commands or not using language for her needs.. she never asks any questions like what or why? May be she doesn't know it at all.. we are starting her speech therapy.. waiting for the admission.
I was so worried and did her analysis.. and the result is saying mild autism.. I'm planning to resign my IT job and focus only on my daughter..somewhere my mind is saying she may have virtual autism.. because she can remember lots of images from her books and answer me, though..
Could you please let me know. What do you think.. is it virtual or classic..

      Hello
Thank you for describing it in such detail.
It appears that your daughter has fallen behind on her communication and social skills.
Speech Therapy is recommended BUT try to increase her social interaction by increasing her outings to the park, playgrounds, social settings as these would give her a chance to observe and learn. Also, introduce only what questions with her which are the easiest to understand with answer in front of her. For example, asking for her arm while puttig on a shirt and standing in front of a mirror like a feedback.
Talk to her about every step of her daily routine, school activities and play as the more she listens the easier it is to pick up sentences.
I will be posting a video on improving social engagement in a week or two. Please keep following the channel for the update.

Hi Dr.. I am back with some updates and doubts.. could you please check this..
my kid was diagnosed with ASD level2 and adhd recently... she has some speech issues and very less eye contact.. I worked with her at home, and her eye contact is back to normal..
Played lots of flash cards and book with single pictures, jigsaw puzzles, etc.. now she can say lots of words around 70 at least.. she is able to identify those images in real-life scenarios also.
We started her speech therapy recently.. one thing which I am stuck in teaching her is "sentence." she kind of know sentence but waiting for the prompt..
For instance, she knows to say "happy birthday to you".. when she plays, she says once, and I overheard it.. but when I ask her to say, she will say only "happy" then wait for me to repeat what she said, which is the word "happy" then she says "birthday".. if I don't repeat the word "birthday," then she won't continue..
I think it's my mistake which I taught her like that with lots of prompts.. because of this, my kid is not saying sentence even though she knows it.. could you please help me here so that I can work with her on her speech.. she is 3.7 years old.. Thank you all..

I started anyway to help him and he is improving with cognition, following some instructions, good eye contact, trying to imitate , he can say maman , papa, nana as banana , ke as cake , honey, etc… knowing the meaning. And now he can wave by saying baba instead byebye. He can hold a glass of water and drink, holds the ball to throw to someone else who is playing with him, he can hold the spoon to eat , he uses his fingers to to eat, to hold the small thing ,im working with him in term of fine motor and gross motor and i can see some improvement. As i said in my first comment since he was born i never gave him time , he was on the screen till night when you bring him to sleep, and his sleep was extremely affected because even at night at 2 am he will wake up and crying then you put him on the screen to calm him. But the day we stopped the screen , that day he slept the whole night. We were sure it was virtual autism but when we see other kids with CONSTIPATION then we stopped believing that our kid was affected by the screen because he also started to suffer from CONSTIPATION since we introduced him on milk at 2 months.
In term of playing he likes playing at lot

By going through how your child's developmental history has been, it may have been virtual autism. But due to lack of sensory, social and play exposure, he never developed any age-appropriate developmenral skills.
As you started working with him by 5 years of age, he needs to learn many skills in addition to overcoming hyperactivity and behaviour issues.

Please start working on your child by talking to him during his self- care- explaining body parts, asking what questions like what do we wear on top - shirt; keep his meal times with you so that he can interact; take him to social settings like playground where he can interact with other kids, greeting others, telling his name etc.

This is not 'virtual' autism, it's simply (emotional) neglect. Has nothing to do with autism.

      Hello
Aapne video mein dekha hoga ki jab kam parent child interaction aur excessive screen time se bachhe autism jaise symptoms jaise speech and communication problems, emtional regulation problems aur stimming behaviours dikhate hain, use ek term di gayi hai 'virtual' autism.

      Don't feel depressed.
Always try to look at your child who has some functional areasa lagging where you need to work harder. It is just like a school subject in which your child is weak.
Usse thoda extra help chahiye us area mein and improvement ho jayega.

Mam can stimming behavior like toe walking spinning hand flapping also happened in virtual artistic child

    • @therapywithdrprabhjot
      @therapywithdrprabhjot  ปีที่แล้ว +2

Yes stimming can happen in virtual autism because sensory seeking behaviour usually appears.
