when replacing a load bearing wall with posts, is extra reinforcement needed on or under where the posts sit, if there is a basement/ lower floor below?
I always cringe when someone wants to open up a wall this always seems to be dead in the middle of the load bearing down from the 2nd floor. They always want an open doorway or a partial opening like a bar look out right in the middle of this wall so they can see their living room from their kitchen. 🤣🤣🤣
@@timpalmer-logstolumber1999 Yeah and people don't realize how much work this will be taking a section of these walls out completely, so the ceiling runs all the way through, when a beam has to be added above the existing ceiling and the floor joust of the second floor has to be cut and this beam installed after 2 make-shift walls are standing first. I mean it is easy to say that is what they want, but when they see the bill before the work, they think we are trying to screw them over or something, and most homeowners are clueless about framing in general anyways so, yeah. But that don't stop them from wanting what they want.

The load should be transfered from beam to the ground. Reinforcing under the post may be necessary.

Load bearing walls are a main reason why houses don't have open floor plans. Stud walls are easier than posts, beams and joist hangers
