I think what makes these two videos (Good News / Bad News) have so much more impact is all the pieces in the world that you find that suddenly everything 'clicks' together. The dying moments of the soldiers who thought they were fighting for the superweapon to save them. The researcher who is crying because the Birds of Paradise genetics didn't make it to the archival in time. The log in this facility where they're talking about hearing people screaming and crying through the walls of the lobby.

Gotta think of the extremely high-risk, extremely important work of those tasked with retrieving genetic samples of animals and plants to add to the archive.
Hell, the way we’re tearing this planet apart and the rate animals are going extinct, by rights we ought to have such an effort underway right now.

@@FreemanicParacusia While i cant say Ive heard of such a thing existing for the animal side of things, on the plant side the scientific community has been archiving and preserving seeds in a vault in Norway for a few decades now. @George i mean realistically climate change happens all the time. Just look at the shift of our axial tilt in the last 6000 years, our north star went from Thuban to Pollaris. In that time do you not think that the climate shifted drastically?
Also there is evidence of multiple periods of heating where the planet became warmer before shifting to an ice age. I dont think its a matter of metering farts and what not, but more a matter of preparing for what comes next. I do agree with the climate change mob on reducing or pollution footprint however, as it shows how wasteful we are at this point in time.

One of the most depressing apocalypses in any work of Fiction. An inevitable end, claiming ALL life on earth, with no hope of survival. Its way past grim, its just dark and tragic. All the billions whos lives where snuffed over the greed of one man, desperately clinging to a hope of survival that wasnt ever going to happen, slowly hearing and watching that hope crumble and fade into nothing, until they decided to commit suicide. Nope, or at least, it wasn't as clean as they hoped,
One of the projects leads was a trillionaire inventor who *created the hostile Faro plague that was killing the planet,* the greed of him so overwhelming that his attempts to brush away the glitch that caused his swarm to mutate and go rogue, caused the Earth's destruction. He was the one who helped finance the project to salvage the world, Horizon Zero Dawn, but during the end of it he went... insane.
And just like the bastard he was, he destroyed the Apollo sub-module, deleting thousands of years of human knowledge to prevent them from finding out his causes and responsibility to the destruction of the planet. Meaning, he led the new second humanity to go down the same path of mistakes, wars, technological redevelopment etc etc.
Also the whole thing about Gaia's sub-routines suddenly gaining sentience and disconnecting themselves from her (including the HADES module going rogue and deciding to wipe out the planet to try again.) also caused the machines to go apeshit and the human populations having to fight them off.

    • @bladewing4686
      @bladewing4686 3 ปีที่แล้ว +26

@@pokemonfanmario7694 the reason for the machines going apeshit is a bit more complicated then that. HADES is corrupting machines with the help of the FARO robots to kill of everything again, yet even the normal machines have been observed to be more agressive. The reason for this is because HEPHAUSTUS noted that humans were increasingly hunting down the machines who's puprose it is to rebuild the biosphere. which means that without those machines, life would die off again. to prevent this HEPHAUSTUS made the machines more agressive and started making more deadlier machines, to dissuade humans from hunting down more machines

Instead, he destroyed it on accident. Which I think makes for a really interesting story. There was technically no evil villain, no mastermind behind the demise of the old humanity. They died because of a glitch, a glitch that was probably caused by Faro but a glitch nonetheless, an accident. Not out of malicious intent or desire. And I don't think that's something we see a lot in stories.

humanity would need at least 50 years to encode the algorithm to shut the faro robots down by themselves . Time that they didn't have from Zero Day.
right now , at that moment they only had that short amount of time to build, design and encode GAIA and her subordinate functions, including Minerva, Hades , Haphaestus.
they had to make a choice.
the biosphere is ravaged. no more food. no more healthy air or soil.

I guess I don't understand one thing. The technology obviously is more advanced than we have now. Why seal themselves up and allow themselves to die out and leave everything to automated systems and AI? It would have been possible to send a small colony to the surface of the Moon or Mars to monitor the project and maintain control over the years to control and guide the terraforming project, along with a backup seed stock. A lunar colony could be made self sustaining if it were small enough, with nuclear and solar power, water from underneath the Moon's surface providing moisture and oxygen, and hydroponic farms or even greenhouses using transplanted soil from Earth taken before the biosphere was destroyed. Why did no one think of this? It's true it couldn't maintain itself indefinitely, but the colony would have only had to survive 50-60 years until the Faro plague ended. After that they could move back to Earth, live in the underground facilities, and monitor the process of reseeding life.

He addresses that in the clip before this one called "the bad news". I believe his words were - "the complete destruction of the biosphere is not the kind of event you can wait out in a bunker or on a lunar base. There will be no Earth left to reclaim, just a barren rock with millions of robots hibernating, waiting for something to eat."
They do still to have the people that work on Zero Dawn sealed into bunkers to monitor the process for the rest of their lifetimes and there is another colony called Elysium that's just another bunker essentially for all the richest and most powerful. Their biggest problem is time - they only have 16 months before the robots wipe out everything. In order to complete Zero Dawn in time they need just about everyone else fighting to the bitter end just to give them a chance. Setting up additional contingencies would take resources away from that so they're all out.
Then they lie to everyone and claim that Zero Dawn is a superweapons program that will stop the robots for good while desperately trying to complete the project before they're all dead.

Not exactly. Noah's ark maintained continuity, with survivors of the flood siring a new generation after it subsided. In this, biological and cultural continuity are fully severed. Everyone and everything died. This was a new genesis, life from lifelessness.

The biosphere was already dying, the swarm grew too large for nukes to thoroughly Delete the Swarm with any meaningful difference (just how the planet is burned), the swarm continued exponentially growing, the swarm's shutdown codes would require 50+ years of brute force hacking, and the extrasolar counterpart plan suffered a catastrophic reactor failure. At this point, there was no good option. Only the least terrible. To build a means of rebirth.
