    The world ended because of bad programing. Let this be a lesson kids, never build giant death machines (powered by organic matter that they can harvest) and have no back door switch or set limit to their production hard wired into machine code and hardware.

      Fero's era had over a century of Sci-fi stories that told them why exactly it was a bad idea to make what they made and they still made it anyway.
      The real tragedy was that the world died for Faro's stupidity and he survived it.

      It would've been poetic if one of the Faro Plague bots awakenend during HZD had found it's way into his bunker and consumed his biomass before Aloy shut HADES down.

      There’s a lot of sci-fi stories based on bad programming, even old ones. The Matrix. WarGames (1983). Colossus: The Forbin Project (1970). I have a clip of Dark Star (1974) on my channel of a sentient bomb that ended up in a philosophy discussion. As a programmer myself, error-handling is immense, but vital.

      Remember Star Wars project? The network of satellites that were supposed to detect a nuclear launch from the USSR or China and automatically respond?
      Reportedly the man who was behind this project have quit. Because he stated that if something went wrong, some kind of bug was there, he would have minutes or even seconds to fix it until the system have started a World War III. And he stated that he trusts neither himself nor computers to *THIS* degree.

    The first one tells you how. The machines were self replicating and powered by biomass. Project Zero Dawn was a mission to save as much DNA as possible to wait out the eventual death of the planet, then the shutdown of the machines by the hastily written AI. Then a restart of the ecosystem, and once that's deemed stable enough, then humans are cloned and grown. But the system is never truly stable, and humanity is needed to fix the problem, so in the first game your goal is to reboot the AI.
    In the game world apocalypse came and left nothing, but a few people managed to gather enough to be able to give new life to a dead planet.

    • @Zeragamba
      @Zeragamba 6 วันที่ผ่านมา +8

      partially correct :)
      Spoilers for Horizon: Zero Dawn below
      Project Zero Dawn was a race to build an AI system called GAIA to reboot the ecosystem after the Fero Plague consumed all life on earth. One of GAIA's subfunctions was a system designed to crack the Fero Plague's security and shut down all of the machines. Once the plague was dealt with, the other subfunctions worked to rebuild the ecosystems of earth. At some point, GAIA did succeed at creating a stable biosphere for life to begin and so humans were grown from a backup of DNA collected from across the world, and released. Unfortunately, due to a particular CEO, the subsystem of all human knowledge was deleted, and thus life was forced to start again in the tribal era. At the start of the game, an "extinction signal" was received by GAIA that corrupted it's subfunctions and caused them to become aggressive and started the collapse that the Horizon Trilogy is trying to fix. Horizon: Zero Dawn is Aloy's discovery of who she is and what happened in the old world, and Forbidden West is about restarting GAIA and starting to repair the system.

      @@KaiInMotionKinda confirmed in the Burning Shores DLC. Alma's tribe followed a strict, somewhat military based caste system. One based on 'teachings' of Ted Faro. If you know who Ted Faro is in the Horizon game world, then you know enough about how set in their ways they are, and how #@&$ed up most of their leaders are. You end up seeing just HOW MUCH they got wrong and how far the leaders are willing to go to keep it that way in the next mission you meet with them. It's the one where you have to get the OMEGA clearance module.

    When the machine told "Initiating biomass conversion process", I got the biggest chill running down my spine. I knew what was going to happen and what it meant, that we got to witness a dose on how the old world died. And seeing it happen with Alloy not being able to stop it, that was exactly what happened to Elizabeth Sobeck... That was probably the most chilling moment of the game, the realization of what it meant, the destruction of life itself as a machinery ruthless process.

    Aloy and Alva both understand one another and work well together: Aloy knows what it's like to work hard to save a stubborn tribe of people who often get in your way to their own detriment and having to deal with the annoying social politica and hierarchies making things more difficult for them. Aloy is practical enough to grasp what Alva is saying and work with her to give her something tangible to bring back to her tribe. And considering Ceo is a total maniac at this point you can imagine Alva hasn't survived him this long by doing stupid shit like coming back empty-handed and going "Yeah a random local lady told me things wil magically get better lol."
    Especially since the Quen's experience with other tribes have only been hostile up to that point, to the extent that the Quen now assume they're all savage barbarians and essentially have a shoot-on-sight protocol towards them.

    Alva: "I don't want to put in the work to actually solve the problem! I want something flashy to show that I solved the problem, even if I didn't." This perfectly explains most people and how they behave; only thinking in short term and never able to grasp anything beyond that.

    • @TheDoctor2nd
      @TheDoctor2nd หลายเดือนก่อน +16

      She didn’t want a shortcut, she wanted a solution. Her issue wasn’t that there was no easy answer, it was that there wasn’t an answer at all. Yes, she needed something to impress the Overseers, but it wasn’t just about staving off punishment or advancing her career. It was about making sure she had the freedom to keep searching for something to help her people and her family. Knowing the truth of the Faro Plague and Project Zero Dawn is important for humanity as a whole, and she’d love the chance to explore that in a perfect world, but she knew the Overseers would see this as Forbidden knowledge and strip her of her resources. What’s more, knowing how the world ended doesn’t help her keep her people from dying.

    • @KaiInMotion
      @KaiInMotion หลายเดือนก่อน +8

      She was on a mission to find something tangible that could save her people: schematics, agricultural knowledge, new tech, anything. Her entire society is dying and she can't expect them to take it on faith from a stranger that things will magically get better. It would be insane to do that. Alva is never lazy in this game, let alone looking to take credit for the work of others lol, what an insanely out of context hot take about this character.

    It's kind of weird that every futuristic story about sentient robots comes up with a version of 'sky net'... or how robots inherit the Earth.

    • @Orick9417
      @Orick9417 หลายเดือนก่อน +11

      Well, to be fair to the horizon:x series, their version of robots were designed to to this by a war mongering CEO who didn't want to compromise his product with a back door that would have allowed them to stop this from happening. His product then went on to destroy the world.
      There is also good AI on the form of Gaia, which acts as the ai controlling and recreating the world with the dinosaur robots. And **spoilers**
      The final kind of AI are the recreted digital consciousnesses of the far zenith colonists who left before the world ended and which were locked in a kind of digital prison until they went insane and decided to destroy Gaia and the flesh and blood people they were based off of. This is a unique sci fi concept, still a kind of out of control AI, but with a spin not seen before. It would not surprise me if we learn in the next installment that the far zenith colonists were somehow responsible for the zero dawn incident. Something like we get to see more of the far zeiths through their digital copies and one of them reveals they caused it. They were the world's 1%, flying away like elon musk to another planet with advanced the technology to keep themselves young indefinitely. People like that have shown they only care about their goals and profits, no matter how that effects people.

      My personal problem with these looks is that they never fit the universe these characters show up in. This one is supposed to be post-apolalyptic, with a lack of basic needs, she even says that her sister is 14 and skin and bone. So why then is she slightly overweight. It doesn't make sense in universe. THAT is what most are really having problems with. For me it's not about being woke, but about pulling real life looks and issues into something that is supposed to not have those. You know, gaming was supposed to be an escape from real life. Not mirror it.

      But that's exactly the problem? Alva looks like somebody I'd meet while touching grass, right down to the haircut (And probably hang out with in real life, no hate). And then she talks about trying to avoid starvation in a post-apocalyptic world. Isn't that jarring to you? It's like these 50's adventure movies where suddenly people with perfect hair and manicure turn up in loincloths and are supposed to be cavepeople.
      For a (granted, cell-shaded and more abstract) believable character design in a post-apocalyptic setting, look at Telltale's the walking dead. For a believable depiction of low-tech tribal peoples (which the societies in Horizon are supposed to be) look at Hellblade 1+2.
      That being said, there is definitely a group of asshats out there who are just haters.

      Not really. She's more panicked than ignorant. She's educated to an extent most people in her world aren't and is capable enough to explore ancient ruins and operate their computer systems with an impressive level of familiarity and success, this is literally the only moment from her character where she's reluctant to embrace new knowledge and that's only because she's seeing something negative that pushes her into a panic attack. She spends the entire game being a dedicated explorer and historian/scholar. This is a world where basic literacy is impressive and people worship machines, so she's doing pretty well for herself.
