      Yes that did. I remember watching an interview with director Herb Kenwith, who worked with both of these ladies, and he said that Christina wanted to be Joan so badly that when she didn’t have the same success as her mother, she was so jealous and blamed her mother for her shortcomings.

    Christina started planning the story for her book a loooong time ago. She knew she didn't have the talent to cut it in showbuisness. I'm sure Joan had a few quirks as any parent does but Christina darling took it to a whole new level!!

    WOW!!! I am so loving Joan Crawford's Jewelry! Check out that ensemble she has on in the pic above.....to die for! The bigger and more ostentatious; the more I like it! Joan Crawford and Helena Rubinstein; have been my inspiration to own major statement necklaces and big cocktail rings with 30 - 50 plus carats! Joan Crawford was definitely the champion in one of a kind, over the top jewelry! I've seen all of her movies many times over....and I continue to watch them just so I can ogle her jewelry!

      But if you listen to THIS and other videos where she's showing her narrsasistic side. Then watch the movie I've noticed that the people who played Christina seem to hit the nail on the head on how selfish of a child and person she is and that the things that her mother supposedly did in the movie seem to be either so far fetched or the kid was always a little shit and Joan had snapped a couple of times. But hearing that her other siblings, Joan's husbands/ partners, and the maids had Even Said that Christina was lying about those crazy allegations. I hope she gets the KARMA that she deserves. RIP To Miss Joan Crawford and May she forever be at peace and know that God See's All the bad and will take care of her when it's her time. Wish I was alive when Joan was alive. She's always going to be a great actress and a very elegant woman Xoxo 💋

    Notice how she never worked through any of her endeavors and admits to being impatient? That itself builds a substantial profile of her true character. She might have been better off doing striving for something she was actually good at-like the night hostess at Denny’s, as she reveals.

    Christina was jealous of Joan, she resented she didn’t have her acting success or talent. Younger sisters Cindy and Cathy who lived in the same house said the abuse Christina talked about never existed. They said Joan was a loving mother who gave all of her children love and attention. They also stated she was a loving and devoted grandmother to their children.
    Whatever the truth about the relationship between Joan and Christina. Nothing can detract from the fact that Joan was extremely hard working and professional. She made sure to know all of the crew who worked on her films and made them feel valued, getting them gifts etc. She also valued her fans. Always making time for them and personally answering all of her fan mail. She was a fantastic actress and I still enjoy watching her films today. God Bless Joan Crawford.

    • @brt5273

  • @larrydirtybird
    @larrydirtybird 3 ปีที่แล้ว +46

    It’s so interesting the difference between the way she describes her mother here, and in her book. In this interview, she does not describe Joan as abusive. She simply describes her as a mother with whom she has had personality clashes. In the book... well, we all know. I think the difference is that when she did this interview, Joan was still alive and able to defend herself, so she wasn’t able to get too outlandish in her description of her. Whereas with the book, Joan was already dead and couldn’t say anything about it, so all these episodes of physical abuse appear.

    • @creativewriter3887

      It's important to remember that Joan Crawford was a successful actress (whether we like her, or not) and Christina Crawford tried to make it and failed, despite the nepotism factor working in her favor. That seems to account for a lot of Christina Crawford's venom.

    Her voice is so different from the one we heard on Larry king later. It’s not just age. She has good grammar and a soft genteel pronunciation. Maybe it was her acting experience or the influence of Joan. Nevertheless, she sounds very different in later interviews.

    Her saying that there may be "competition" between them because "They're both actresses" LMAO Christina! You wish. Her Mother at the time of this interview, had a career that spanned about 35 years and an Oscar... I love Joan and feel like she really got the bad end of the stick. However, she will live on being the most famous of her generation in Hollywood because of this controversy. Joan wanted to be famous, and regardless of good or bad publicity, she will always be remembered. Joan was and IS a beautiful soul.

    Joan Crawford was well aware of the things that Christina was up to as far as these type of interviews went. I have seen what happens first hand, when you spoil a child and then they turn on you. My mother and father did this to my brother!! Some of Joan's friends said that Christina wanted to be, Joan Crawford!! And Joan had reportedly told someone that she knew Christina was waiting for her to die!! And for those who don't know Christina did contest the Will and was awarded money for her and her brother, Christopher.

    ...I'll give her this, once she realized that her acting career wasn't going to amount to much, or better still that she wouldn't achieve much fame from it; she did complete her education-and a very good one-pursuing another career. Whatever her shortcomings, she was a decent student and excelled in completing her education. I believe a great deal of her story, but I do believe that some things were exaggerated for the sake of sensationalism. Sadly, we'll never know the complete truth because Joan wasn't alive to defend herself.

    Christina Crawford's account of things forever contradict themselves; I'm not saying for a moment that Joan wasn't difficult, and alcoholic, with all the cruelty, erratic and punishing behavior that goes with it. Certainly the Eder/Stanwyck phone conversations are testament to that. But I do feel Christina has embellished a lot. Joan's other kids, and her grandchildren seem to have been raised by a totally different person, even if there was an age gap! Children of celebrities are very over looked as all the attention goes to the parent and jealousy plays it's part. So much is expected of them, and yet nothing is expected; look at Carrie Fisher's well documented relationship with Debbie Reynolds, and boy did they love each other! At some point EVERY child competes with the parent for their own identity, but when the child enters a race they just cannot win, things turn out oddly or badly. Most fascinating to me at the moment is Tom Hank's son who has assumed the identity of a rapper named "White Chocolate", with the affectation of the ghetto; which is VERY odd for a kid who went to Beverly Hills High. We human beings a funny old things, and celebrity just magnifies & distorts.

    Poor Joan. What a vexing daughter she had. You just know Christina got “soft-expelled” in a way so as not to create a public stir. So Joan had her sent to another private school. And then paid for Christina’s college, only for her to drop out after a year. And then got her a job in New York, only for Christina to quit. And her thanks was this slap of an interview and later a slaughter of a book. No good deed went unpunished for Joan. May she rest in peace.

    • @creativewriter3887
      @creativewriter3887 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      She thought her mommy would get her a lead job immediately.. and yet Joan DID try to get Christina parts.. but per other people's accounts, she was NOT talented and could not/would NOT take any direction. She was jealous of her mother and just thought her mom would just shut up, put out the cash and let her do anything she wanted. So Joan pretty much stopped the gravy train.. and also we have to remember that Joan was working very hard to get parts and to keep her lifestyle. And Christina WAS jealous of her mother. This crap about "competition" is really on Christina's part and she said so.... but Joan WORKED for it for decades.. while Christina thought it should be handed to because she's her daughter.

    It's A Hard Knock Life for Christina growing up in Hollywood after getting adopted by a famous movie star Who provided for her to live a lifestyle of luxury. Perhaps she never did get a chance to consider the alternative of life in the orphanage (where she really belonged) but went to boarding and reform schools instead. She has trashed her mother & become the poster child for abused children, even though she now admits it was not really physical abuse.

    In 1960 Christina was 21 years old. She was brought as a child of queen. Private school, working mother, 3-4 months holiday
    When she was expelled from school she says it's not true, it's about two people remembering things differently.
    "I had will on my own "😂
    I wasn't going with things she thought it was good for me"
    So Christina wanted doing things her own way and it was destructive sabotaging herself. Joan was very intelligent and tried to hulp. But some children need to make their own mistakes. Maybe had she borderline personality disorder or other psychological problems. But blaming this on mother?

    The impossibility of the child of a huge star trying to compete with, or follow in impossible footsteps; if one can't be famous, may as well become infamous. No doubt Joan was a tricky customer, but Mommie Dearest? I think this interview explains what came later, and reveals it to be mostly fiction.

    Whether one believes Christina Crawford or not doesn't take away the fact that if Joan Crawford was so busy with her career she never should have been allowed to adopt children in the first place. Adoption agencies are to place children in a household and environment that would be secure and nurturing. With Joan Crawford's career and celebrity and multiple affairs and marriages she never should have been permitted to adopt. But back then and of course even now money talks.

    • @TheConcludingChapterofCrawford
      @TheConcludingChapterofCrawford  2 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      Your comment doesn't make any sense to me. Are you saying adoptive parents who have careers and a sex life should not be allowed to have a child? What about biological parents who have careers? Elizabeth Taylor was a lifelong actress and she had four children. She was married SEVEN times. On top of that, she had many health issues early in life that could have prevented her from being an attentive parent. Would you say the same about Taylor?
      Considering more than 50% of marriages in America end in divorce, and that's a conservative percentage, odds are the majority of biological parents are divorced from their child's other parent - if they were even married to begin with.

    It sounds like Joan did everything she could to point and encourage her daughter into a successful career yet Christina didn't want it. She seems very ungrateful towards her Mother and almost spiteful. This really makes me doubt alot of the accusations she has made towards Joan. I think that some abuse may have occurred due to Joans alcoholism as well as her frustrations in dealing with an obvious rebellious child.

Mayb Joan was wrong for adopting, and she had her reasons, but Christina had her own willful mind (as most children, let alone children of means, tend to do) and I usually do not give her words or voice any of my time.
