    • @game9370x
      @game9370x ปีที่แล้ว +6

      none. electric cars need weight to have traction and go fast. by the time they make enough aero mods to give it the downforce needed to balance all the weight they got out of it, the car will need the exact same hp to move as it did before. hence this project is total bullshit, a waste of money, time and reseources that could've went towards other builds on the channel that would've brought actual new audience and increased their money flow.

      @@game9370x you dont know what youre talking about. They already have enough "downforce" as it still drives and doesnt fly, and the car still seems pretty stable. What I think you ment to say is drag. Also, you realise that the lighter a car is, the less traction it needs to have the same acceleration right? In theorie a heavy vehicle can stop as short as a lighter vehicle, practical it says otherwise, its close but not the same. Go learn something instead of gaming.

  • @Thereis1
    @Thereis1 ปีที่แล้ว +164

    Bro this is actually brilliant, can't increase the power so now it has to be as efficient as possible! You guys should look into hypermiling type mods like a speedtail style design. When you fabricate a more permanent solution, I really think you should consider adding a long tail. The hatchback like drop-off at the back is hurting your drag compared to the base vehicle. With a long tail, I think you could get the drag lower than stock.

    • @Jazz3006
      @Jazz3006 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      This x10. By adding the longer tail and smoothing out the transition you are going to remove the sudden low pressure zone behind the car. That will significantly decrease the pressure gradient across the car and reduce drag as a whole. After all, drag is basically the sum of your pressure gradient times the frontal area.

Pro tip to maximize your time there (if not filming YT), wait till you leave to analyze your data as tunnel time is expensive, also add everything to the car before you get there and remove it as you test, its easier and faster to remove stuff than to add it.

      Lexan is basically clear polycarbonate plastic. Great idea for looks! I love it!
      As for breaking the record, I think I think the cardboard is actually very underestimated here, this is still very stiff material for its weight! not very weatherproof or resilient but still lightweight and relatively stiff as a diy handmade wind cover. Carboard is mass produced and optimized for strength/weight ratio by using spacing between the outer layers - that's a neat trick to do a sandwich like structure you do in composites for boosting stiffness without adding a lot of mass.

It was a longtail with the underside being a giant splitter and the top end gradually joining the bottom. With that thing on, the car became basically twice as long, but the times he was putting for his horsepower were insane. Basically the same idea behind the McLaren Speedtail.

    • @davebrown9725
      @davebrown9725 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The "wicker"(?) strip they tried on the tail is an element of a Kamm tail, and as we saw it can be really small. The sharp cutoff at the rear shown by the smoke in the wind tunnel is the Kamm tail forming a virtual long tail body for the laminar airflow off the car to ride on.

    What really helps is a long tail version at the rear with shallow angles, just like the top of a raindrop. The reason behind this the same as with the windshield, you got a low pressure zone behind every wall and the airstream is sucked in by it, creating vortexes and turbulences which cost energy and the car is pulled back by the the low pressure. So just avoid „walls“ and smooth out these transition zones between high and low pressure.
    This design is used in some highspeed cars as well like the McLaren Speedtail for instance

      Cut another 300-500# out of it as well. New suspension tuning to he cut nearly half a ton out of it. Those rates are wack now especially for keeping it planted at the strip. Maybe swap the heavy ass air bags out for some racing coils. 🤔

    Wonder if a drag spoiler at the back would help detach the air better from the back as is.(nevermind, you mentioned it)
    His point of each time the air changes direction it adds drag,
    Wondering if a few more spoilers/strakes/"barge boards" to control the airflow around the wheels or other problem areas would be worth the effort.

      Thin fiberglass doesn't have any structure to it, and flexes with the wind. It would create a ton of turbulence, and negate the aero advantages of a body

    You have to do a lightweight underbody for the car! That will be another significant decrease in drag. And also if You are serious about breaking the world record and keeping it, you should do a longtail rearbody. I would also use flat rims plus cover the rear wheel.
