No intro music either, with "badass" graphics and an exploding wrench or something. Just goes right into the content. A lot of these channels even have their own logo like on a ballcap and they wear it. Such pretentiousness.

We found a 1973 Super Beetle for my daughter for her first car. Wheezer, as it was named, wore the same color combination and it was a great first car. Very forgiving and excellent for learning about the clutch and shifting and clutch friction point on a hill and all that stuff a young driver should learn. I never did much mechanical work on it but the video is great for bringing back memories. Thanks Mustie1. You're the best.

Been wrenching on VW's for 35 years now, and every time I R&R a carb, I think about getting one of those wrenches. So far, it hasn't happened. HAHA!
Just picked up a 69 baja bug that's been off the road for 15-20 years. Will need all systems redone, including that nasty stinky gas tank. This is a timely video, as I like to see how others do the job. We all have our ways, and we all have room to learn something new.

But for pure, stay with it, tutorial, long form, no Timelapse, explanations; I haven’t really found anyone in Mustie1’s league. I feel like I’m in class and it’s great. And his stories are terrific too. 😊

I loved it, especially the feel of the gears through the unique linkage. Now, 60 years later, I love to watch Mustie working on these old Vdubs. I am very fond of these old vehicles. When I was in my late teens and early twenties, I occasionally drove a couple of VW's that had the 'Automatic Stick Shift'. They were an interesting design. the clutch was operated by pressing down on the gear shift. The problem I had with them was that I tend to rest my hand on the gearshift (I still do that to this day). Every once in a while I would be going down the road at about 55 mph and forget about the gearshift and press my hand a bit too hard on the gearshift. That would engage the clutch and you would find the engine suddenly revving up while you were slowing down.

When you were flushing the roofing tar out of the fuel lines a little shot of fuel system cleaner could help. You work on these VWs and it reminds me of why I should not have sold my 1966 Beetle!

I always find it amazing that so many barn find cars wheels are locked up and then the guys that takes a car that has been underwater for decades and the wheels turn when they tow it out.

I like the way you show in almost real time how long a tune up really takes all while dealing with problems from previous bad tinkering & neglect , doesn't get any more real than Mustie's mechanical's😂😂😂😂

Lovin the tank spinner rig. 100% APPROVED. For as much gas tank rejuvenation as you do, this was totally worth the effort to build it. You should sell a conversion kit to Harb Fright as attachment to their best hand truck. Lol.

Watching you tune that carb and all the trouble finding the air/fuel screw, I kept thinking, “sucks getting old.”😂 I know the feeling too, can’t see a damned thing anymore.

Back before the federal government mandated all the old steel underground service station tanks to be replaced with poly or fiberglass tanks a lot of the older steel tanks were rusted thru and letting ground water and dirt contaminate the fuel you were putting in your car. I suspect the previous owner was using one of those stations that had that problem. That amount of sludge in the fuel tank looked like contaminated fuel residue from dirt and water in the gas.

There is wrench in my box that has baffled me for several years. Its a box end cut with a hinge in the center so that it could be pushed or pulled from around a corner. It just jogged my memory that it was this and several other uses i made it for in the early 80s.
Doing your own wrenching in your driveway is a bit different than doing it on commission for a living. Do a good job, but do it as quickly as possible.
I would worry about the fuel line through the tunnel giving out and starting to leak. All that black grit that came out of the line is off the inside. I wouldn't trust it and out it would come. Odds are the crappy gas we have now will finish it off.
Other than that, another successful resurrection of a left for dead victim.
    Cheers
    Terry

My favorite part of all your videos is the "bench talk".. You have alot of knowledge and I love learning fun fact about stuff you're working on. You should call it "bench talks with Mustie".

Thanks for including the daughter/father car projects, because being much older than my brother, i was first the tool and parts runner, and then i graduated to being able to work on stuff, but then got the dirty job's lol. I learned so much, and also plumbing, electrical, and building skills. One time my grandpa glued together a water pipe under pressure, and he didn't want to wait for it to set up at all, so i told him i think its to soon. He didn't listen, but i stepped away from the pipe, and when he turned the water on, i heard a loud bang, and the water just blew everywhere. He waited a bit longer before turning on the water lol. I can't remeber exactly how he had thing's set up, but he was an engineer, and used 4" pipe to create more pressure in the system, which he did, because I've never seen a pipe blow like that lol. He had a well, which doesn't put out the pressure of having city water, and i was about 11 when this happened, but i wish i could remember exactly what he did for that thing to blow like it did. I sure miss my dad and grandpa, because they taught me so much.
I sure enjoy these video's, the amount of goo that came out of that line was excessive, but better that then a rusty body for sure. G-d bless.

When I was a kid I didn't know they made wrenches like that so I took one of mine and heated it up and bent it into a U shape on my dad's anvil and used it for years on my 70 bug. I thought back when I bent mine, I had invented the bent carb wrench for bugs. I lived in the country 30 miles from civilization, so I'd never seen one. Sucks to be poor in the middle of nowhere, but it makes you creative.

The sports shop I work at has several home made tools for bikes and stuff... The owner used to be a farmer, so he had to invent tools sometimes. And being a country town, buying the commercially made tools means a few days wait at best for them to arrive.
