This car was far from being 1 foot from the grave. I have seen and driven much worse. This is a wonderful example of a well preserved barn/garage find. Well cared for. It won't take much to get it going at all.
I grew up poor and couldn't afford to fix my car so i bought a chiltons guide and some tools and just figured stuff out. I've been watching your videos for years now and i just wanted to say thank you for all the stuff i've learned from you. Love to see projects like this.
That cutie wants to live... :) Also, why not make your starter switch foot operated? That way you'll have two hands free to hold gas and work the throttle... Thanks for all your work, I've learned a ton from you!
foot switch.. my thought exactly.. mentioned it already a couple episodes back.. and any momentary light switch and a piece of wood would do the job.. cable and clamps of course ;)

Reminds me of an old guy I bought a 1963 Thunderbird from. Just a really nice gentleman. As we were doing the deal he took me inside his home and we went to his den to do the paperwork. Only the walls were all these frame pictures of WWII navy aircraft. And photos of him. There was a photo of him leaning against a propeller of a F4U Corsair. I was shocked and he just sort of flippantly said, "Yeah, that was one of the aircraft I flew in the war." I was a 20 year old kid, so he was quite surprised by all my questions. We talked for a few hours. Wish I had a recorder. He flew combat missions over Iwo Jima and Okinawa. When I had to leave he thanked me for listening to his "old man stories." LMAO!!! No, those weren't old man stories. Those were certified badass stories.

Another great video. I owned 3 vw’s way back when, 1958,1966 and 1967. The 1958 cost me $200.00 and was my favourite. I love seeing you bring old Volkswagens back to life.
I owned a 74 Super throughout high school and call me crazy... but every time I hear that distinctive VW whistle it just takes me back. Dunno if it's the pea shooter exhaust (which was the first thing I changed) or just the character of the engine, but it's special. Always good to catch Mustie1 wrenching, have a blessed day everybody.
I had a 71 Super Beetle. My girlfriend stopped in the sloped driveway, set the parking brake & got out. The bug rolled down the driveway, towards the stream, but got hung up on some small scrub. When I arrive home, my buddy was towing it up from the ravine. I asked her if she set the parking brake, she said, "YES!." "Did you have it in gear?" "YES, I put it in neutral!" 😳🙄😅
I restored a late 68 for my daughter 15 years ago when she 1st started driving. Knowing a VW can break at any time the rules were she had to know how to trouble shoot, tune , adjust valves and change the oil by herself. I told her I never wanted a call where I had to quiz her to find out whats wrong. She knew if the engine wouldn't turn over turn the lites on to see if the battery was connected or it has no spark or cylinder misfiring. She did good.

A good beginning for the Super Beetle! 👍 I actually liked the Supers better than the originals. I thought they drove much better. Looking forward to watching this old girl come back to life!

Hope you show this one a few times more!!
I'm not a big fan of a VW Bug but that is a very clean convertible.. that's what makes it sweet it's a convertible.. that car is worthy of having some paintless dent repair done on it.. that's a good barn find ..it should be worth a lot of money.. congratulations

Wow much nicer than your buddy 5150 gets he gets lots of rest and patina which means missing paint which I think looks horrible. Paint them make them look classy. That one you got is awesome minor body work still shines after all those years awesome. Interior looks good too. What a great find -😊 it'll be fun during top down weather😊
Glad to see a vw revival again. These are what brought me to your channel ! The go carts and mini bikes are interesting but the vw revivals are a lot better!
awesome and outstanding content as always.thanks for sharing and taking us along.
My favorite U Tube channel
I always learn something new each time
Thanks
Good morning from God's waiting room. The villages of Florida.
Good to see v w back on the site
It’s great to see that convertible saved. Always a pleasure to see a Mustie1 video on his original passion: air cooled VW !.
I am jealous for the first time watching your channel. I want that car. The Beetle was just about the best car ever. I made fun of them as a snotty kid, but I didn't know the lovable little car's days were numbered. Now I know better and wish I had bought one to put away. They were dirt cheap.
Looks like a decent rig, thanks for sharing, all the best to you and your loved ones
Good job Derrick keep up the good work and interesting shows with the family!!!
Sorry went to the wrong channel mustie 1. Like you're channel as well keep up the work! Have learned a lot watching you.
A good beginning for the Super Beetle! 👍 I actually liked the Supers better than the originals. I thought they drove much better.
Looking forward to watching this old girl come back to life!
One of my favorites: Mustie does a VW buggie. That car is in good hands with you, sir. Hope there is a part 2!
Nice looking old VW. Of course you like VWs which isn’t a surprise. Glad to see it runs, like you said got to look over other aspects of it.
You brought the mice and rat poop enough to get a better price your turning into a business man now that's a beauty !
Nice find!
I like to reach in with compressed air into the plug holes to blow oil around in the cylinders
The reason I started watching Mustie1 years ago was because he was a VW guy and I love em! Wish I could get one but they are rare here in the rust belt and I'm a poor guy and getting too old to try to get a Junker and fix it up. Just Love watching one come back to life here though! Hope you show this one a few times more!!
So good to see you. I agree with the other comments about your ability to keep it interesting.
I'm not a big fan of a VW Bug but that is a very clean convertible.. that's what makes it sweet it's a convertible.. that car is worthy of having some paintless dent repair done on it.. that's a good barn find ..it should be worth a lot of money.. congratulations
Awesome find Mustie, watching in from Norwich uk 🇬🇧
Made for great viewing as always bro and good to see the rodents have not dun a number on it. Safe travels. Ken.
That one looks like an easy revival , like you said tires, brakes, fuel system, ignition system, and cleaning. Good one 👍
Love it when you give a VW engine clinic. Brings back fond memories.
Quite possibly my favorite vids from you, the VW, ❤, can't wait to see more,
Hi D. Man that is a beautiful car!! Considering the age, it is in excellent condition!! Really looking forward to seeing you drive this one!! Awesome video!! Probably one of the nicest vdubs I have seen!! Hope you have a great week!!😊😊😊😊 Darren
Make a foot pedal for the starter switch. That way you can hold the bottle of fuel & work the throttle with both your hands and use your foot to engage the starter.
Great idea
I love this guy so knowledgeable and entertaining ❤
Always a fun time. Thanks for the great time.
Always enjoy you wrenching on a VDub Bug Darren, looks like this could be a goodun ! 👍🙂
