CLK has a sun sensor on top of the dash, that might be the culprit, need to diagnose using a proper obd2 scanner, easily possible. Long term Mercedes owners are recommended to have a good scan tool that pays for it really quick.
This is a common issue with R251, X164 and W164 instrument cluster to develop a bad LCD display and the fix usually is to replace the LCD display and not the complete instrument cluster, by doing so you will save a lot of money and time, reprograming the cluster to the ECM.
You have 3 options: 1. Repair the LCD, the head unit by replacing the LCD, available on Ebay for ~ $150. 2. Buy a used navigation unit, almost same price, will need to code it to the modules most probably. 3. Android auto, not recommended. They are mostly low quality or expensive and not original.
I really appreciate your efforts 👏👏👏
You are welcome 😊

2006 CLK 500 worked perfectly until I had a new windshield. Now the Auto Climate does not work. You are a great help on many things. Thanks.
