  • Last week I finished rebuilding the transfer case on my Suburban, so I checked it out at Trabuco Canyon. I wanted to try some more challenging terrain so Last Friday, I went to Rowher Flats which is in the mountains between Santa Clarita and Palmdale. Here's a short (7 minute) video of the 12-15 miles of dirt roads.

I'm pretty familiar with the Rowher OHV area but don't recognize that last trail you were on. I was with you until you reached 6N07 -- we've taken that a bunch of times across Sierra Pelona ridge to 6N08 -- but I don't know which way you went after you reached it Was that "the incinerator?"

It's the other way - left at the top of 5N18. It's a sharp left and easy to miss if flying up 5N18. No, I don't think this was "Incinerator". I think Incinerator is a 50 inch wide or less trail just southwest of the 5N18/6N07 intersection. If you turn on satellite view, you can clearly see it on google maps. Is it 2wd friendly? Is the subarban 4wd?

99transamws6 : I think a 2 wheel drive could do it faitly easily but the dxtra clearancd of an SUV is needed. I wouldn't drive a Sebring on these roads. The Suburban has 4WD but I didn't really need it.

RJ M I have a 2wd Tacoma pre runner. I am going to have to try it out, since I am close by. Thanks for the info

99transamws6 : you should be fine. Just keep in mind that a breakdown that can't fixed on the spot could result in an extremely expensive tow. As long as your truck is in good shape, yoyr risk is low. Just go slow.
