Wheeling my recently built 4WD, 2004 Suburban 2500 up Last Chance Canyon in the El Paso Mountains (Red Rock State Park). Running the entire canyon from south to north. After rains of the previous 2 weeks, lots of the rocks in the lower part of the canyon have been covered with sand while the upper part has more exposed rocks. • @jimbullock6039
      @jimbullock6039 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@chad6292 Yes! The 5/8 in. Irwin extractor worked like a charm. I made sure it was seated squarely on the sparkplug around the rounded hex. The plug came out with no problem. Once I made a turn or two on the plug, I removed the extractor and sprayed some WD 40 on the threads, ran the plug back in to lubricate the threads then cranked the plug out. The WD 40 step may not have been necessary but I didn't want to take any chances on stripping the threads in the head. I didn't know who previously installed the plugs so I was careful. Make sure that the engine is cold if you have alumimum cylinder heads. Also, if it is an alumimum head, check the manufacturers torque spec for installing the sparkplugs. For the 4.6 L Ford like mine, the spec. is 13 -15 lb. ft. This engine also has a reputation for blowing the plugs out. Most mechanics recommend a little extra on the torque spec. I torqued the plugs to 18 lb.ft. and no problems so far. Let me know how you make out.

      Try a smaller size socket and heat the socket with a torch before putting it in , as you put it in tap it with a hammer until it grabs then hopefully it will work. Try not to touch anything on your engine with the hot socket or your hands

    That's what I need. Got three of four out from my crap PT Cruiser. The fourth feels rounded off and none of the 5/8" sockets get a sufficient bit on it. Don't know how a plug can get rounded off but...sure feels like it. Will give these Irwin deals a shot. Thanks.

      I was scared as fuck tho cuz I was trying to find any socket that could maybe be smaller or larger and a 16mm seemed to hug it but not with enough to loosen gummed up threads. If you ever had your car serviced tho someone in a hurry could’ve used an impact and rounded it off

  • @Bronzebk

    Will be getting a set, especially since you confirmed what someone else did similarly; using a hex tool to extract their stuck plug. However, not sure if Autolite should bear the brunt, as the plug that's stick in my car is a Denso, sold by the auto dealership. Just seem to be shoddy Manufacturing.

      Confirming that while the plug's hex but IS turning, the plug itself isn't. Meaning that the nut broke away from the plug, which is a Motorcraft brand. This could've been a defective plug, because I thought that those things were in solid state. Anyone had this issue 😡 and how did you extract the plug? I can't get it loose using the plug nut... it's now a "hoola hoop"!

    I'm pretty familiar with the Rowher OHV area but don't recognize that last trail you were on. I was with you until you reached 6N07 -- we've taken that a bunch of times across Sierra Pelona ridge to 6N08 -- but I don't know which way you went after you reached it Was that "the incinerator?"

    • @rjm7168
      @rjm7168 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's the other way - left at the top of 5N18. It's a sharp left and easy to miss if flying up 5N18. No, I don't think this was "Incinerator". I think Incinerator is a 50 inch wide or less trail just southwest of the 5N18/6N07 intersection. If you turn on satellite view, you can clearly see it on google maps.
