Bro this was amazing to watch, you covered absolutely everything with this deck, loved everything from the way it plays against other decks to how its going to do in the future, great job and appreciate your videos!!
Thank you for the kind words. The hope is these videos help bring new players in or help current players up the game. Anything to help makes it worth it
Thanks for making this video! I love Roaring Moon to bits and its my main deck for the local tourneys, but I built myself a Charizard deck just to know the ins and outs, so to speak. I will lament the loss of Battle VIP but I think the upcoming sets will provide interesting tweaks to the builds we see for both.
Glad you enjoyed it! I think Roaring Moon is still poised to be a contender in TEF, but investing in Charizard now goes a long way. Losing VIP hurts some decks, but getting a deck that can utilize Buddy Poffin alleviates much of the t1 headaches we have no
Dude! I am so proud of you for doing this. I didn't think you ended up using the logo, and I just stumbled my way here because I decided to start playing again last week lol. Opened this charizard in one of my first 2 packs back, this seems like a great list!
Thank you, old friend. I'm glad to hear you're getting back into the game. I loved the logo and had to include it as often as possible. Reminds me of the good old days when you, Andrew, and I were always joking about getting a channel going. Still grinding, but it's been greater than I ever could have imagined
This video is incredibly helpful and insightful. Thank you so much for going into detail on the deck. Hopefully I can apply this to how I play Charizard going forward.
Thank you so much. I have not had a chance to test much of it, but rest assured, it's on my testing list Thursday. It may be the next one or two after LZ zard
Awesome video!! You’re super underrated and the quality and editing style of your videos is super eye appealing and easy to follow! I’m a new Pokémon tcg player and I’m trying to learn more about it and your videos are definitely helping!
your video is great! don't worry about the length; the information you provided is well worth it. i've been playing charizard for a while now and really like the deck. here's how i've spec'd mine: - i run 2 entei for 2 reasons: if one gets prized, i have a backup, and it's a great buffer to set up my board since it's pretty balanced between offense and defense. plus, i can answer to any grass type pokemon that hard counters charizard, as well as secures my position to play behind when they take it out. charizard comes out already swinging for 240 and can take out most opponents - i run 8 energy; this is to account for prizing and to power up entei and charizards evenly - i do not run mew; even tho this card is pretty good, i wanted to practice post rotation as much as possible. i also replaced level ball with heavy ball because a prized pidgey makes a really bad game. that being said, i still keep battle vip because you can't run a deck in this format without them defiance band and lost city have been my considerations for a while and i might find a way to squeeze them in there. thanks for the pointers and i'll keep all your info in mind next time i play a game.
I had previously covered three variants of the lost zone on the channel. All extremely relevant still. The only match up not included that's worth talking about is roaring Moon. I'm currently working on more topics. Thanks for tuning in 😁
Hello! Thanks so much for this guide! Just getting back into PTCG myself. Was wondering if you have any plans to make a miraidon iron hands deck guide? Thanks again for this video!
Thank you for watching. I'm actually taking suggestions. Once I finished the Charizard guides, I had no videos lined up. If the demand is there, and it looks like a multi-format deck, I will definitely cover it at some point
mew works in a multitude of different decks but it isn’t the main attacker in the decks. It’s mainly used as a support to draw cards so I would find another card that you really like. For example, I use Alakazam ex with Mew ex and it works quite nice when adding in a few extra mons.
Mew is definitely a support pokemon. I did cover a quick five minute video talking about it back in September. It's draw three is the best part with the copy anything providing utility
Yes the one from 151, if you want to make the deck I would suggest adding 3-4 copies of mimikyu and a couple copies of klefei to sit in the active while you hit for big damage on the bench with Alakazam.@@Wargasm509
I'm worried the most for this deck post rotation. The popular build people are playing is so Flaaffy heavy. I did put a video out on Miraidon (maybe 4-6 videos ago). I opted to not do a how to quite yet as Japan doesn't even have faith in it. Gardy is also in this camp where we need to test and see if a meta build emerges when we lose Dynamotor. I don't think Miraidon is gone, but I have not had the time to really work on it yet
I just started playing after many years. I thought my deck was pretty good but I think your breakdown was just the info I needed. Your style of video is exactly what I've been looking for. Thank you for your hard work and I'm a sub and a fan! Quick question if you read this. What do you think about running jacq and evolution tm dropping a rare candy and ultra ball? Still a 2 turn Charmeleon/Charizard double set up that doesn't require Pidgeot early if you draw into lumineon/arven
Thank you so much. I'm glad it helped I think if you're going to incorporate Jacq and TM Evo, you NEED max counts of Ultra Ball. 4 Ultra Ball+Lumineon+Jacq gives you so many ways to get it. Many top players would cut into supporter counts before Ultra Ball as Ultra Ball can become fish which would be X supporter. If I had to cut anything, I'd cut an energy for Energy Search, an Arven for Jacq, and then decide if you want Evo or Devo. You kind of want to keep the speed of Pidgeot. It's tempting to cut candies, but you'd also have to incorporate the 151 Pidgeotto (which I really don't think is worth it). Just one guys two sense, but hope it helps somewhat
I like the Paldean Fates Charmeleon, but not necessarily for Pidgeot builds. It's main protection is against Sableye which you can usually play around. I find the deck wants to be very aggro and getting a 70 damage for two usually comes up more. If you find yourself using a Charmeleon more than another, by all means. They typically change in strength depending on the meta around them I'm working on the next video and I really like it better in that build.
I would love to. I just have been crunched for time lately. I'm in the middle of finishing a Charizard LZ with updates to older videos. CharlieTCG did a really good one If you're still looking
I think I want to wait until path rotates to cover that one. Wasting slots for stadium bumps/mid bumps really hurts . Palkia is fun. Gholdengo is fun. Pairing them seems like a blast, but getting shut down by path is VERY tilting
Hey, excellent question. One of the big differences is defense vs offense. With the Rotom, it's strictly a bench sitter. It provides not much in terms of offensive presence. It also gets completely negated by the Paldea Evolved Spiritomb. At the time of recording, spiritomb was being played to shut down opposing Rotoms in control, Mirror, etc as well as shutting down Genesect V in Mew. It also locks out Lumineon V. I personally found Rotom becoming a dead card with the meta game in that moment. I went with entei because there were circumstances I liked having the option to hit 220 (full benches) on t2. If they had spiritomb down, I still got some value as it's relatively bulky and provides fire coverage (which hits gholdengo and grass counters) I respect those who play it, but it ultimately comes down to how often are you using it and is it worth sacking two prizes for it. My personal answer is no, but I see it's intended purpose
@@goonsquadtcg I feel like the Gholdengo Matchup shouldn't be very hard even without Entei and most of the time you automatically loose to grass counter decks anyway. Instant Charge seems to be a lot more reliable to get set up initially I feel like, but I see your point.
@lmanity honestly I've had more success with entei rather then rotom. With full boards and band I hit 230 on first or second turn on most roaring moon matches of course depending on what is dealt first hand
I'm working on that. I'm happy to revist the Lost Zone. I'm just gathering resources/working on an in-depth guide. I've had many ask, so it's now on the list
Which version of Zard you see going forward after rotation - Bibs or Pigeot ex ? Is it same vibe as was when Zard came out and everyone tried Bibs vs Piegeot and later just got back to it or it's better? Before or after rotation Bibs Zard i see will be unfavored vs Pigeot variant unless will play 2 Devo and other techs.
I think they'll fluctuate. What I'm learning is each has strong match ups but they're not universal. So it's depending on what you see more of will influence them. I'm leaning towards bibarel, but the quick search of Pidgeot is also good. Something I haven't ruled out is a hybrid between the two. The biggest match swing for Charizard as a whole is who's playing Devo (Japan seemed to have dropped it) and how you chase your prizes. I think both decks have strengths. Pidgeot is aggressive and strikes first, but Bibarel has the pseudo one prize board state that can be tough to go through. Charizard is a 2HKO until late
I been liking roxxane over research in zard in rotation decks like dengo and pao can checkmate you with crypto maniac not with roxxane and Delphox has been amazing as a way to snipe things like two comfey two minchino in lugia or two mander in mirror
Oh, I really like that idea. I would definitely need to try Roxanne in Zard. I've considered Judge, but mostly for Bibarel builds. It shouldn't be a hard sell as I'm a fan of the card. Delphox is definitely going to see an uptick if Lugia remains popular. In testing, it's been great
So, I am actually playing Artazon + Collapsed in my list, does that really make most of the matchups this much harder? I'm asking because you put Lost City as a key card in almost every matchup. Personally, I don't think it's too bad not to play it because they'd need to Super Rod and search for their knocked out key mons, which may take time they don't have against Zard.
The stadium choice is definitely optional or can be tailored in the deckbuilding process. Artazon and Collapsed were other cards I've seen. Collapsed is more defensive, and I found it hurting me more than helping. Lost City is just more final when it comes to knockouts. Giratina, Chien Pao, and Gardevoir all play pretty tight lists with multiple Rods. Forcing a rod +set up is not that hard for them. I just want to take a 50/50 or favorable and spin in it in my direction. Definitely both valid styles. I just really wanted to emphasize how good LC is. Gardevoir can be VERY problematic for charizard players if they can recycle Gardevoir pieces
I forgot that one. I posted the video and then went out for groceries. I saw the Tin and went "ah dang it". Give it time and we'll have ANOTHER printing
I actully got 2nd place at my locals last week and I beat a Snorlax deck with use of the addition of PAF Gengar in the deck, Gengar can overestimate Snorlax Players
@@goonsquadtcg Well, It was a small tourney and one of my friends is playing Snorlax and I saw the video The shuffle squad posted and I tried out that list, when I wasnt against snorlax, I used my gastly and gengar as discard fodder for ultra balls. Me and my younger brother played Charizard that tourney except he didnt have Gastly and Gengar in his build and our builds are very Identical to eachother. The only problem you will face agaisnt Snorlax is Mimikyu and I need to keep cards out like using the PAF charmelion to attack mimikyu and thats how I won and with Gengar out, Every time they boss order/counter catcher me, I use gengars ability to keep bringing up charzard until I get to mimikyu, then I use charmellion to damage mimikyu since safeguard is a problem, so seeing wiats coming helps me prepare for the matchup
To just not concede every time a play stall i added 2 counter 4 boss 2 switch 2 rod the rods ate for recycling energy entei is key in this match along with pidgy and manaphy. I dont win every time but the wins are not few against stall. Much better the just conceding. Other then that i loved this video
Oh I figured I'd add some comedy, but I do like the strategy. Most builds just take the calculated loss to it. I do like the pro-active approach you put forward. I'm working on another build of Charizard that may be a little more prepared for Snorlax that's a little different to what you listed. 😁
Absolutely . Thank you so much. I need to sit down and add them. I'll put them in for this video in the coming days and have them in the new guides. That's some of the best input I've had
I've watched this 2 times already and imma watch it a third time before Vancouver but imma play Pedro petrusi's build from guinia(idk how to spell it) lol
Something thats worked for me against snorlax is to not bench Vs and if possible not to bench anything except chars and pidgeot...theres no reason to rush the game
Honestly buddy-buddy poffin and the new ace spec belt tool charizard is going to stay incredibly relevant where as decks like garde loses zacian v an shining arcana which unless they print something crazy in the next set or 2 is going to completely die. I love playing Charizard but I play low count Charizard with entei v an radiant heatran and it sounds crazy but I run bibs skwovet and Pidgeot ex skwovet and bibs really help you churn through the deck fast to get to those pieces you need between entei and skwovet early game to help find bibarel and then skwovet bibs and entei to find everything else
Lost Zone Charizard is the deck I'm always falling in and out with. That ex you can't shake. I've been dabbling with Iron Hands ex in the list at times over committing water to Radiant Greninja. I can't wait to get that one out
The deck is like $54 USD based on aggregates. If you dont want to shell out for rotating cards (VIP, LEVEL, ETC), I GET that. The deck is tier one and pennies compared to what others play . I imagine TCGplayer or trusted card shops could help you quickly
Incredible yes. I didn't include it because we still need additional outs. The sooner those Charmanders get out of Greninja range, the better off we are
@@goonsquadtcg for sure. The number of times I have managed to bump a turn 1 or 2 path makes it worth it! I have just put together a Charizard deck and really looking forward to rotation!
@@goonsquadtcg Gotcha, thanks. I'm brand new to Pokémon TCG. Been a Magic player for a while, and just got curious. Also some nostalgia hit me from collecting when I was young. 🙂
I tend to disagree. We've seen plenty of players pilot this archetype with six and even seven . You rarely see an 8th unless it's Jet energy or the unreleased Mist Energy. If you feel you need more, you're hurting yourself in other areas of the deck. Infernal Reign fetches them from the deck when we need them. Assuming you play your Rods to return them, we'll always have ways to get them. Charizard ex is not really an archetype that wants to attach from hand.
I like path. Todays narration is from a Charizard player . Charizard ex and those playing the deck typically dislike Path (because it shuts down infernal Reign)
@@goonsquadtcg no i get that, but as a zard player myself, the hate should be pointed at devo, not path. And you do sound very biased when speaking about path
That's the idea, though. The intent with these videos is to really get behind the deck. Path is more problematic than Devo because the latter is harder to incorporate into decks. Offhand, I can only think of 2 maybe 3 decks that use it besides the mirror and they have alot of bad match ups. Path is enough of a disruption through Mew, Giratina, and Arceus that you can just straight up lose. There's no real play around to a path+Judge or a strong Roxanne+Path so I'm emphasizing that to new players/first timers for this deck
Bruh talking about mastering the easiest deck to play of all Pokémon time…. I’m in the high ultra ball rank in TCG live almost masterball rank, I shit you not I played all day today and only played against a deck that wasn’t charizard ex maybe twice? It is absolutely broken that this card can do so much damage even without you taking prize cards, get instantly powered up AND have stupid high HP with 330.. especially since In this meta it is SO easy to get a rare candy with cards like arven. I have been insta checkmated idk how many times with a fully powered up Zard on turn two…. And now they added pidegot to the deck as if the deck wasn’t broken enough. This zard card has honestly ruined the game as 99.9% of the time you face this deck. The fun part of Pokémon for me is facing people with creative decks they built themselves and seeing how your deck stacks and it brings variety and enjoyment, I ain’t getting any enjoyment when I’m facing my 35th charizard deck in a row…. If you play this deck you are certified trash

@@goonsquadtcg interesting if Codebraker changes anything. I mean with it bibarel seams like limited pseodo pigeot which guarantees your combo.
what website has the jpn meta
Pokecabook.com
Im so confused whether to put 1 or 2 rotoms 😨😊
I'd probably put one and then work in another spot. People are playing Spiritomb to shut off Rotom in control . Lumineon is also popular
9:19 7 Charizard?
Paldeaen Fates Tin Charizard is punching air rn
I completely forgot that one. Now we've got 8 that makes this deck easier to get
Gholdengo palkia looks kinda cool
I'm saving that for Temporal forces. Path has really ruined my enjoyment for Dengo (I just bought my playset irl, but patiently waiting)
Didn't even mention the tin Zard print lol, he is so accessible
I forgot that one. I posted the video and then went out for groceries. I saw the Tin and went "ah dang it". Give it time and we'll have ANOTHER printing
I actully got 2nd place at my locals last week and I beat a Snorlax deck with use of the addition of PAF Gengar in the deck, Gengar can overestimate Snorlax Players
Did you find it useful outside of that match up? What build of control did you happen to play against? (I know there's an attacking build)
😁
Fantastic vid! Timestamps would be amazing!
Good luck in Vancouver. Thank you for tuning in 🫡
Something thats worked for me against snorlax is to not bench Vs and if possible not to bench anything except chars and pidgeot...theres no reason to rush the game
I find that only works for a few prizes and then they eventually get you with Erika or Echoing horn
Man I don’t even understand why is prime catcher so expensive when it is just escape rope but with a restriction of 1 copy
I refuse to buy it. Max Belt all the way. Unfair Stamp MAY be worth buying at a higher cost
I think Snorlax stall is too OP
Just a Lil. I want to tech for it when it beats me time and time again, but people don't play it enough to compromise your deck for one match up
Add a single Minior and snorlax goes down
Honestly buddy-buddy poffin and the new ace spec belt tool charizard is going to stay incredibly relevant where as decks like garde loses zacian v an shining arcana which unless they print something crazy in the next set or 2 is going to completely die.
Pidgeot doesn’t say reveal it just states search and add one card :)
Thanks for clarifying. I still make some mistakes. You are right . Definitely do not reveal that card unless you're playing it😆
We all make mistakes but it’s good to have it corrected so then we don’t have the audience start showing there hand 😂😂😂😂
Lost Zone Charizard is vastly underrated.... change my mind...
Lost Zone Charizard is the deck I'm always falling in and out with. That ex you can't shake. I've been dabbling with Iron Hands ex in the list at times over committing water to Radiant Greninja. I can't wait to get that one out
learning to play is easy...building it tho..
The deck is like $54 USD based on aggregates. If you dont want to shell out for rotating cards (VIP, LEVEL, ETC), I GET that. The deck is tier one and pennies compared to what others play . I imagine TCGplayer or trusted card shops could help you quickly
and now it has 8 print versions
I literally uploaded this opening the Tin promo. I forgot that one recording 😅
Nobody:
Charizard ex/Palkia Vstar deck
I haven't seen that deck in such a long time. Charizard Palkia might be a shadow drop type of deck
@goonsquadtcg It's only real advantage is in a best of 1. As most players don't expect Charizard ex to have access to R. Greninja moonlight
70hp Charmander another good out to Path
Incredible yes. I didn't include it because we still need additional outs. The sooner those Charmanders get out of Greninja range, the better off we are
@@goonsquadtcg for sure. The number of times I have managed to bump a turn 1 or 2 path makes it worth it! I have just put together a Charizard deck and really looking forward to rotation!
Pour 1 out for the homies 🤣😂
Oh wait so you can't use Pigeot to remove Path to the Peak. 🤦♂️
How are you charging it up. I wouldn't. It's too damn slow to attach, pass. Attach. We have better tech. Path is also long gone now
@@goonsquadtcg Gotcha, thanks. I'm brand new to Pokémon TCG. Been a Magic player for a while, and just got curious. Also some nostalgia hit me from collecting when I was young. 🙂
Now chien pao please
Working on it. I've had beef with current builds, so it's on my list to tackle
Not enough energy😮
I tend to disagree. We've seen plenty of players pilot this archetype with six and even seven . You rarely see an 8th unless it's Jet energy or the unreleased Mist Energy. If you feel you need more, you're hurting yourself in other areas of the deck. Infernal Reign fetches them from the deck when we need them. Assuming you play your Rods to return them, we'll always have ways to get them. Charizard ex is not really an archetype that wants to attach from hand.
Path to the peak is not an annoying card, just build better decks
Such a double standard to hate on path so much, but radiant greninja is loved and cherished
If you really played yugioh you would know that all you do is search search search draw draw draw. 🤷🏻♂️
Lol, I used to play. I walked away in 2022 when I couldn't justify paying $80-$120 per copy of latest and greatest staple
@@goonsquadtcg I stopped playing for the same reasons. $1000+ for a tier zero deck. Ridiculous!
LOL
