      I agree, I think it’s not very fair competition 😅 video is cool, though would be actually really interesting to watch if it would be fair and square - everyone Is speaking same way, without this alluring spoken tone on purpose. I fing Swiss German much harsher because of so many ‘sch’ sounds and the way they speak in real life😅

      Also, German from Germany is the proper German that looks and sounds the best and it sounds naturally sėxy (not as sėxy as Dutch tho, Dutch is the sėxiest / hottest-sounding language ever) and, Spanish sounds harsh because of the hard Rs (German Rs are a lot softer than Spanish Rs, and even though some speakers of German use a harsher R, the younger speakers of German usually use soft Rs that aren’t harsh) and, it’s the actual voice of the speaker that creates the actual sound, so if one has a very low / dark / rough voice, it can make a sėxy / pretty language sound less good, whereas a speaker with a soft voice that is higher and lighter and clearer will make a language sound better - technically, the three types of German aren’t that different, but a speaker with a softer voice will make any of them sound better, so it’s not a fair comparison, because a fair comparison would be, if all speakers had the same type of voice with a similar sound and intonation, then one could hear better the differences between the languages themselves, not the differences between the voices of the speakers!

      agreed. i think next time (if they do this again) they should have a kind of basic sort of phrase or conversational direction that each person says in their native tongue. that way, you get the same general meaning or idea from every person, but you get more of the local flavor, with a baseline to compare them all to. i think that would make for a much more interesting video, while still being cute and fun and not super serious.

    I feel like the creatos of this channel really need to look into the differences of language and dialect more. This channel is supposed to be about languages and cultures, right? Yet in all of the past German videos, they were talking about German "languages" - although they are dialects - variants of the same language. Then they just kept using the word Germanic, which is a completely different thing - not German. If you want to educate people about these things, then you should do some research about them too. In many of the previous videos on German it seemed like different languages were being compared. This is simply not the case. These differences should be made clear, anything else would be really misleading. I have noticed this in quite a few videos of this channel. This is to some extend pretty unprofessional. A channel that wants to educate about languages and cultures should know better.

    The "Austrian" talks actually in a kind of Swiss German language as she is from Vorarlberg. This state and Liechtenstein are much more Swiss than Austria oriented culturally and economically - they even wanted to join Switzerland once. So the language is really similar and far from German. People from Vienna or Salzburg have a more Bavarian Austrian language.
    Still - Austrian/Bavarian and German are very similar, also linguistically - they use different words but the same grammar. Swiss German is different and actuallly a language of its own (because or historic reasons as the new government of the first constitution in 1848 couldn't decide which dialect should be officially "Swiss German", they took the language written down in the Duden in Frankfurt for the official language) with a total different grammar. Swiss German only has 3 tenses, hardly any genitive declinations and a very simple conjugation system and even the phrasing is different. Words are pronounced on the first sillable like in Finnish or Norwegian, which is different from German as well. I was teaching Eastern Europeans Swiss German after they learned German at high school. BTW Germans don't understand Swiss but they understand Austrians (at least much better).

    Sooo, I think it’s not very fair competition 😅 video is cool, though would be actually really interesting to watch if it would be fair and square - everyone Is speaking same way, without this alluring spoken tone on purpose. I find Swiss German much harsher because of so many ‘sch’ sounds and the way they speak in real life😅

    • @andyx6827
      @andyx6827 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      You are right. All of these three countries consider German to be their official language. There is a plethora of German dialects in all three of these countries.
      The German girl spoke Standard German (official German, 'no dialect'). The Swiss girl spoke the dialect from her specific canton. The Austrian girl spoke the dialect from Vorarlberg, which is an Alemannic dialect just like all dialects in Switzerland.
      There are also Low German dialects and Austro-Bavarian dialects, non of which were represented here.
      The differences between Standard German, Low German, Alemannic and Austro-Bavarian are crazy, to a point where many linguists actually consider them languages. In fact, the differences are way bigger than the differences between Serbian, Bosnian, Croatian and Montenegrin. But ultimately it's just politics that decide what is a language and what isn't.

    • @andiehernandez1995
      @andiehernandez1995 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@andyx6827 the ones you mention in the last paragraph I think are actually considered languages by linguists (they even have their own Wikipedias with their own different linguistic codes). But the ones in this video I believe aren't and they're just considered dialects. I imagine it's the same case for the German spoken in Luxembourg, the one spoken in Liechtenstein and the one of Belgium. Also in Pennsylvania, Belize and Venezuela. They're dialects but they all come from the German language.

    • @andyx6827
      @andyx6827 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@andiehernandez1995 I see you didn't understand what I wrote, well done...
      I mentioned Serbian, Bosnian, Croatian and Montenegrin to show you that some language varieties become languages because of political reasons. That was the case for those for languages. Once they became independent, they all proclaimed to speak their own language, created their own dictionaries and their own standardisations - out of what would have been considerend dialects of the same language. To this day, linguists are still debating whether those are actual languages and the most common consensus is that they kinda aren't, but everyone just rolls with it because of political reasons.
      In contrast to that, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Liechtenstein and Belgium never claimed to have a different Germanic language. So they all basically went "German? Yup!" despite having insane differences.
      Out of those countries, Germany is the only one that officially standardised its language. The other countries never created their own dictionaries or standardisations (at least not officially). Whatever the German spelling institutions decide will automatically be official in Austria and Belgium as well, because they tied their rules to Germany's institution. Switzerland on the other hand generally doesn't care. They literally have a "do whatever you want" approach when it comes to spelling and grammar, because they have so many different dialects that are all so different from Standard German, so they just don't care to standardise any of them. And Liechtenstein does whatever Switzerland does.
      Luxembourg is interesting because they *have* in fact standardised their language. It's called Luxembourgish and is officially recognized as a unique language, even though it's just a variety of Moselfränkisch (Moselle Franconian) that we have in Germany. Luxembourgish is literally the same thing as the German dialect that people speak in the Moselle region of Germany. So, again, it's all politics that decide what is a language and what isn't.
      On top of the Luxembourgish language, Luxembourg also has French and German as their three official languages. So it's kinda weird to allow Luxembourg to have two different Germanic languages, but then act like everything in Germany+Austria+Switzerland is just German, don't you think?
      Austria and Switzerland could easily turn their 'dialects' into actual languages if they wanted to. Just like Luxembourg did. Just like Serbia, Bosnia, Croatia and Montenegro did. And it would make way more sense than in Serbia's, Bosnia's, Croatia's and Montenegro's case.
      Also, do you know what else has their own Wikipedia pages with own linguistic codes? Austro-Bavarian does. Alemannic does. Low German does. I mentioned those *for a reason.* They are linguistically considered different languages, because the insane differences in grammar, pronunciation and vocabulary go way beyond what you see in normal dialects. Those are actual languages with tons of dialects within them. It's just for political reasons why they don't have full status.

    • @xolotlmexihcah4671
      @xolotlmexihcah4671 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@andiehernandez1995 Linguistically speaking, they are not dialects but distinct Germanic languages, period! If they are considered _"dialects of the German language"_ in Germanic countries is merely for sociopolitical reasons (not linguistical), and the purpose is to exercise dominion and influence over such regions.
      Furthermore, most Germanic languages in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland also have been restricted to own and standardise a formal writing system. Something similar happened in France, where the Occitan and Catalan languages were deprived for a long time of their status to be considered languages.
      It's strange that in this time and age, that's happening in Germany, Austria or Switzerland. Just imagine Italy or Spain's governments claiming _Sicilian, Venetian, Friulian, Corsican,_ and _Sardinian_ languages as _"Italian dialects";_ or _Catalan, Aragonese, Aranes_ and _Galician_ as _"Spanish dialects"._
