I'd say more so in the larger scale of things. He is certainly underrated though. He has what I find to be the most difficult ability to master and that's body control. Anyone can catch one handed or run fast or jump high, but the best receivers can contort their bodies to bring the ball down in their arms and in bounds.
Always have liked him. Allegedly a cool pothead who used to pretend to be young fan girls on his posting boards. Pretty funny stuff. His one-handed grab was INCREDIBLE.His wife is a total fox, too.
He's relativeley health playing baseball. God knows the odds would have been against his health playing in the NFL. He made the wise decision... and he sitll has some superb highlights at ND.
man these were the days, it was too bad rema mcknight was hurt the same season stovall n the shark were on, or it woulda been mcknight, stovall and the shark on one field together..
I'm surprised the Cubs don't use him as a pinch runner. He'd probably be good for a steal or two. He's pitching his ass off right now though -- great pick-up for my fantasy team.
Man we have come a long way in video quality. This looks like video from the 80s lol. Anywho he was a hell of a WR in college and now a mediocre Pitcher in baseball.
@@derricklee4487 I guess, but he could've been special in the NFL. I say that because he had complete mastery over body control, the most difficult aspect of playing receiver. wayyy more money in baseball and he will play longer in the MLB.... sadly lol but would have been in the top 10 in the draft and a starter right now.....
i remember when ND had got him to commit and seeing he was only a 3 star recruit, remember watchin him play in the 5a championship game back in 01, he was good and became great once the trainers worked on him in south bend...#IrishMOJO
Reminds me a lot of DeAndre Hopkins. In terms of success I think he would’ve been a much better NFL receiver than he is a major league pitcher but he would’ve made much less money & he likely wouldn’t be nearly as healthy. He got a huge contract in baseball & will make $125M+ before he retires but for the most part he’s been nothing more than an average big league pitcher. I don’t think there’s any chance he would’ve been a bust as an NFL receiver.
daniel79tj that’s actually pretty good. He keeps his teams in the game. To win a game these days you have to score 4 runs or more most of the time so that’s actually not that bad.
Mofos be forgetting he was DAT NIGGA at Notre Dame. Kinda wish he went to the NFL but enjoy seeing him pitch in MLB. ESPECIALLY wen him n Lorenzo Cain had their beef. Lol
This dude took some man sized hits during his football career at ND. He would have been used like Ed McCaffrey in the NFL and gotten destroyed across the middle with his large frame. The decision he made to do baseball was a wise one, and is apparently paying off now.
God, he was great, wasn't he? I don't care what anyone says, the guy could have been one of the NFL's all-time great receivers, if he wanted to do football instead of baseball. As much as it pains me, I wish him the best in baseball (F*** the cubs!). I can only hope Robby Paris becomes half as good of a receiver as the Shark was.
who gives two shits about baseball? Samardzija wasn't the fastest but he was a great possesion receiver in college. He basically broke ND's receiver records for no reason. what a shame.
+fshawks17 maybe. you get paid more in baseball with a longer career. thats what he was probably thinking. At the end of the day you have to have financial security.
He definitely could've made the big bucks into the NFL. I kinda wished he did make that choice. Projected in the first round. Damn that would've been great.
jeff chose baseball probably cause its safer in the long run...and it pays more...no pysical contact day in and day out...how many more people get injured from NFL..
uhhhhh...UCLA ain't bad. They shut down USC last year. And he had to have good games against SOME good opponents. Any time youve got 1200-1300 yards and 15 tds at Notre Dame, you've gotta have a few good games against good teams, considering their schedule. Good games against good opponents, dominating games against average teams.
he always reminded me of drew bennett....excellent hands...good speed and i swear they caught the ball the same.....they both always made them sweet touchdown catches plus they both had the same number...... #83
Samardzija may not be the best pitcher ever, but he's far from a failure in the MLB. If you're making millions and millions of dollars (way more than if he were in the NFL), then you're not a failure.
dude i didn't say he was the best ever all i'm saying is the way they caught with there hands and not using there body when they catch balls reminded me of each other....and to say he sucked is typical youtube response.... but in my opinion he had excellent hands and good speed..2004 season he had a very good year he just wasn't consistant....once again i didn't say he was the best ever or he was great he just reminded (ME!!!!!) of this guy, all the lol's and haha's??....come on dude grow up!!
Guy pitched for the worst defence in baseball last season. Sale would be AL Cy Young with a better defense. Besides Samardzija will make 90M next 5 years in a clube that will fight. I think he's ok playing baseball..
UCLA (7-6) got lucky, USC played terrible, they were not a good team, average at best. Samardzija:06 Mich 30yds, 05 Mich 52yds, 05 OSU 59yds, 06 LSU 59yds, 05 USC 99yds, 06 USC 79yds. Those were the only teams with a good d that he faced and USC really shouldn't be on the list because the whole Pac10 pass d isn't that good. ND record in those games 1-5
This guy was the fucking MAN. The biggest what if, in sports for me
Greatest ND "character" ever. A joy to watch.
He made the right choice. He recently signed a 90 mil contract and plus he isn't getting his body destroyed.
He got 90 million dollars and saved 90 million brain cells.
SiamHomeSource brain cells he never had
He went tO ND.. he has brain cells to spare, u loser

He is owning it up in baseball now
what an athlete.
The forgotten superstar
He is one of the most underrated players that I've seen come through this program
Isaac Devereux not underrated at all. He was a beast at Notre Dame and has been recognized as such.

He won a biletnikoff award he was quite literally the best wr in college football
Hold onto your dreams guys, Samardzija was only a three star recruit who played at a pretty small Indiana High School. Damn he was good at Notre Dame
oh many would he have been a heck of a football player

VERY well edited video. I see a lot of shitty editing jobs here on TH-cam, but this was great. Nice job.
He made Brady Quinn look good
chris cornell-you know my name.
SICK video .. GREAT song choice
Samardzija is sooooo good. Too bad he wont be playing football, instead he wants to go to baseball. He would be tight on the Eagles.
my late brother called me samardzija all the time, wish i didnt cut my hair, but i cut it for him.
awesome video

I agree with adub160, no big games against good opponents.
if he went to the nfl...
Reppin the 219,,hes a Beast...N.W.Indiana legend
I miss him...
Thats what I wonder...he is a bench warmer now but he could of been a starter probably
I absolutely loved watching Jeff play. He brought excitement to the games ! I sure miss him here at Notre Dame.
He's one of the most underrated wide receivers in the history of college football.
@@artmoreno I was alive when your mother gave birth to your dumbass, I'm actually your father.
Samardzija only had 1017 yds last year (12TD) and 1249(15TD) in 05-216yds 2TD against a pitiful Stanford
I love the Cubs, but the bears could have used this guy just a little bit more.
He has the best flow ever!
He should play the NFL instead MLB.
my last nae is samardzic

If he does it soon he might be one of the few good white recievers.
Man I miss that guy, he amazed me for 4 years along with Quinn and Zibby....thats all I can say
wouldve loved to see him take his talents to the nfl. he'd be a standout
Phenomenal body control. That's a rare ability. He was able to use it as well as Julio Jones.
Correction - One each in 2005 and 2006. The 2005 was spectacular, too.
what is "spartan pictures"?

He's pretty good though.
@@kennethch9549 he has 20 more L than W and 4.00 career ERA, usually a 10-10 guy, mediocre to bad numbers.

For a tall guy, 6'6", he has very good speed. Better hands than speed though, he can catch anything.
reminds me of michael irvin the way he uses his body to shield defenders
I played against jeff in high school. He had the same technique then. And he was very difficult to tackle.
