I love Eleanor. She was great on father knows best and she was also great at the show called. Get a life with Chris Elliott. That was hilarious. She was such a great actress. Thanks once again Dave appreciate it.❤
I directed Don Knotts later in his life on a small project. He surprised me because he was a lot like his character,“Barney Fife” on TV. I found him to be warm, personable, gracious, and kind. He was not at all the Hollywood stereotype I had expected.
listening to this story about what happen, I can see where young people in the mid 20th century had to grow up fast and mature while today a 23 year old seems to act like a teen still .
I believe you are right Dave when you say the writers didn't know how to write for women because they never made an episode about whatever happened to Elie.
I may have mentioned this before Dave, but a few years later, Eleanor was on a CBS sitcom called Many Happy Returns. Her character was a married woman with a child whose husband was played by Mark Goddard later of Lost in Space. Many Happy Returns aired ironically on Monday night following the Lucy and Andy Griffith shows. Despite strong lead ins the show failed to garner an audience and was canceled after only one season
@jdsundstrom You are welcome Dave. I know you did a segment on The Andy Griffith show having the best holiday episode. I agree. But a close second to that is The Dick Van Dyke shows holiday episode called Alan Brady Presents. It was like a half-hour variety show with no audience and memorable comedic segments such as Dick as an orchestra leader having some of the cast singing Alan Brady Alan Brady or Dick and Mary Tyler Moore as two Santas dancing and singing. Also. Richie (Larry Mathers) beautifully singing Little Drummer Boy. The episode was done December 1963 just one month after President Kennedy was assassinated. It was probably a welcome diversion from that. Hope you can do a segment on this holiday show
I think you've mentioned that one before. Oddly enough, I've never seen it. Not sure why. I'll try to track it down and give it a watch. Thanks for the suggestion!
@@jdsundstrom it's a very good episode. I think one of Van Dykes best and I believe you may agree it ranks right up there with Andy's Christmas show. You might try seeing it on METV on Sunday nights when they air Dick's shows at 11pm EST
She played her part well not to change the subject but in one of the episodes i saw a sign on a building that said Franklin's drug store it was a quick shot 😮
Wow ,I feel bad for Eleanor, none of her costars except Don , checked up on her. When the Title character of the show and your characters love interest , can't be bothered to even check on you ,that must've made the decision to leave a lot easier! It also shows Don knotts character as a good person and puts a stain on Andy's shinning image.
Visiting or calling a work colleague when they are in the hospital is SADLY something that I have forgotten to do more than once. Because of that, I'm not going to be too hard on Andy.
I despised her sick character in Star Trek, but the Trek universe was so cool with Zephram Cochrane in it for a short march of days. Too bad Glenn Corbett couldn't reprise his role in the feature film. James Cromwell is no great prize, for sure.
She asked out of the show because she felt she didn't fit and that her chemistry with Andy wasn't there. Because I'm such a fan, I resist those conclusions. But I respect them. The show was notorious for its inability to write comedy for women. (Except extremes like the Fun Girls.) I wonder what it would have been like of some of Andy's girlfriends' characters were more filled out? I'm sad they hit their stride with the Helen Crump character, because they even booted that by turning her into an over-reactive jealous shrew, despite the fact that they had the longest (most episodes) to work with it. I loved Aneta, but I could NOT stand what Helen Crump became.
@@jdsundstrom Unfortunately, her character came along just as the show was slowing down and getting repetitive. (The third season.) Her first few appearances were pretty good. But by the end of the 4th year she was a single-note bummer.
Ya know, Mr. Dave, I can understand why she felt the way she did. But she didn't need to feel that way, EVERYONE took a backseat to Don Knotts, even ANDY‼️ I believe she was a bit overwhelmed by a very heavy dose of Hollyweird, at a young age, and in a relatively short period of time!🇺🇲📺🚨🎣🎸
Her character just did not fit on the show and I'm not the first to say it. She seem not to like men and every episode had to be on the top of whatever the problem was rather than Andy. I never watch the episodes with her in them.

Thanks for the great comment, Tracy! And yes, I loved her on "Get a Life" as well. Chris's parents were so funny on that show.
I always enjoyed her time at the town drug store and Opie getting an ice cream float. ❤
Yep. There is just something about an old-timey town drugstore. Thanks for all your support, Rob!
Love Don Knotts! He seemed like an individual who was kind in real life. Long live Mr. Furley!!! ✌️😎✌️
It's Christmas time again! One of my favorite Christmas episodes on Andy Griffith is When Eleanor and Andy sing "Away in A Manger".
Me too. Love that episode!
I loved her in everything she did. When she left Andy Griffith show I missed her. She contributed plenty for me.
@@tigger06 I second that.
The “Christmas episode” is one of my favorites!

Thanks for sharing your experience, Dale!
Elinor was a great edition to the show wish she stayed longer she was my favorite out of Andy girlfriends such a sweet woman great actress
I wished her character married Andy. I ❤ her smile.
It's quite sad really, no one but Don cared enough to call Eleanor.
Thank God for people like Mr. Knotts.
Don Knotts was TRULY one of a kind!
i guess it just goes to show that kindness matters.

I loved the character of Ellie.
Great TV show 😊
Don Knotts was always a class act.
Dave, another great job!
Thanks for watching...and commenting!
Another great video! I noticed you have almost 55 million views for your channel! Congrats!
Thank you very much!

Great spot! 👍🏼📺
Thanks Barry! See you on Monday.
Thanks Dave
Thanks for watching, William!
Her nephew Geoff was one of the loves of my life.💔

Ironically, except for Ron Howard (Opie), Elinor Donahue is the only surviving cast member from The Andy Griffith Show.
Ron's younger brother clint too. Even though he only had like two or three walk on cameos. As the little cowboy usually eating.
Happy holidays
Happy holidays to you as well, my friend!
❤❤
Thats sad Don was the only one to reach out to her

I'm thinking Andy tried to put the moves on her & she resisted. 🙏❤😊
You never know...
Who else thinks that Elinor on TAGS kinda looks like Linda Carter from Wonder Woman?
Linda Carter like way yummier to me.
They are both certainly lovely ladies. Thanks for all your support!

I just found out Andy and Helen had a son.
Yep. Here's the video that I published about that: th-cam.com/video/17jMRx3gs60/w-d-xo.html
Are we sure Mr. Furly didn't have ulterior motives? :)
Hmmm. Hadn't thought about that!
@@jdsundstrom I wouldn't hold that against him if he did. Elinor Donahue was quite fetching in those days. :)
I hope Thelma Lou doesn't see this picture.
So in other words, Andy Griffith was a jerk for not calling her? Is that what you're saying?
Nope. Didn't say that at all. Instead, what I said was the Don Knotts was kind and thoughtful.
Gee I thought Elinore was swell.
Got nice teeth 😁tho! 🤓😎✌🏼
