      that guy was the worst driver ever, and he was flapping his arms out of the window telling other people to slow down, and shaking his fist at them

    I always thought that the 60 BHP was never really enough for these types of cars so I always looked at the 75, however from this video it's definitely enough especially for your first or second year of motoring. I quite like the fact that it has no electric windows or anything like that, gives me more character. Great video as always Barrie, loving the new beginnings at the car parks!

    I bought a Mazda MX-5 NB last year, my fun car and for the nice days of the year... I share it with my mom and I need a car of my own... something that is uncomplicated, cheap to maintain and reliable and I don't need central locking, power windows or any convenience.... I think I have found my canidate.
    We had a VW Golf 1 Cabrio for 17 years and it had nothing either, not even airbags or ABS.

    Thanks for the great review, I pulled the trigger and got myself a 2012 VW up!.... almost identical to the one in the video (but white), also a take up! but mine doesn't even have a rev counter or glove box and I love it, great little economical car. I can handle it better than the Peugeot 3008 2.0 turbo diesel driving school car I had to drive.

    These little Car's are making Motorbikes as a cheap way for youngster's to get on the road a lot less of an option mpg and Tax wise there's not a lot in it anymore, hardly worth the trouble of getting rained on. Just wish they would give us all a break with the extortionate insurance prices totally pricing the youngster's off the Rd. Amazing that a 3 Cylinder does 3 thou rpm at 70 i remember a 3.3ltr Vauxhall Ventora doing 3 Thou at 70mph and 25 ish mpg. Bet it was hot with no Air Con 😰😰

    • @BarrieCrampton
      @BarrieCrampton  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Boy was it hot, couldn't open the windows either because it would cause wind noise :-) Yep insurance is ludicrous although i was talking to my mate the other day and he has just had his insurance cancelled (by email that went in his spam folder I might add) the reason is that they will no longer insure people over 55 , so it looks like its going to get tough at both ends of the age scale, my Dad had a Ventora !

      @@BarrieCrampton Doing 70 mph at 3,000 rpm with a 59 bhp engine ? Takes some believing. Are you sure you didn't make a mistake there ? Just checking because I'm thinking of buying an ' UP ' and not sure whether to go for the ' HIGH UP ' with the bigger engine or settle for the ' MOVE UP '. - Thanks.

      @@mryorkshire3623 I used to have the "Move up" cracking car I drove to Lyon and back in 2019. I'd advise you to get as big an engine as you can. 70mph at around 3k rpm is accurate, however you will have to drop a gear if the motorway reaches an uphill section. The engine only really "pulls" around 4k-6k rpm but then it drinks like a fish. Even at 70mph in 5th gear it is a bit thirsty. For maximum mpg you want to have it in 5th gear around 2k rpm which would be about 55mph. Did you end up buying one in the end?
