Back in the early 1970's, I was Stationed (RAF) at RAF Digby just outside of Lincoln City, and decided to make a visit to Lincoln Cathedral on a day off. It is a magnificent building. Just inside the main doorway, was a glass toped cabinet, with a large book opened at the same date and day, but back during WWI, with the name of a soldier dated 11th August 1915 (example) when he arrive, and the date of his death during battles, was 15th August 1915. The pages showing dates of a soldiers arrival, and death made my eyes water a bit, as it was so sad to read the casualties during WWI.
So sad to see soldiers arrive at the battle fields, and only survived a couple of days, weeks or months.....
I also made a visit to Arundel Castle a few years during the late 70's after serving my 12 years, but a bit disappointed as much of the internal castle was roped off, but no restrictions to have a wander around the outside....

It never ceases to amaze me how such magnificent buildings were built to stand the test of time and by hand no less! Modern architecture has NOTHING on the great masterpieces of long ago.

Absolutely!! 100%! I’m always bowled over by the level of craftsmanship and skill. These places were built to last.. and like you say, by hand. The level of skill, hard work, dedication and craftsmanship that went into buildings like this is second to none. Long may they last! ❤️🙏

They weren't built by hand. They are all Tartarian structures. They didn't have the people to build them in the time they were supposedly built. AND they all had spires that were taken down. They were healing centres not churches.

Wow what a view from the top of the castle. I have been to Lincoln a number of times but never been in the Castle. It’s a beautiful and historic city and the cathedral is magnificent.

So beautiful and majestic, both sites are incredible! You can feel the weight of history in the castle while the cathedral feels like it's elevating you to the heavens, I could spend ages just soaking in the atmosphere of both places, and I can't wait to visit someday!

Thanks so much for bringing your audience Lincoln Cathedral. It is beautiful beyond belief and your artistic photography totally does it justice. The stained glass windows look superb, thank goodness they and the whole cathedral survived the Reformation..

Nah mate stay in Australia you don't want to live here it's expensive and you wouldn't like the weather anyways its either raining or cold and we only get 2-3 months of warm weather if we are lucky. But I'd swop my cottage in the countryside for your house in Australia?? Deal ??🧐..😂😂

Thank you again so much! 🙏🙏 Which part of Australia do you call home? My best friend moved to Perth. Funnily enough, I could have ended up there years ago instead of moving back to England. Apparently I was destined to be back in here though 😊 I’m so happy you enjoy my videos, thank you for taking the time to watch them and for joining me on my weekly travels! Heidi really is a little sweetheart, we’re off on a Heidi and Mummy trip next week which we’re looking forward to 🥰

It’s expensive yes, but so is Australia 😂 my best friend lives there and she’s been looking at moving back over here lol. Having spent 15 years living in the heat of Saudi Arabia and over 15 years living back in the UK, I have to say I prefer getting to experience all four seasons each year with all the beauty they bring with them over eternal sunshine and unbearable heat 😅 but that’s just me 😊 I’m sure there are pros and cons to both. Happy new week ahead!

@@theslowtravelsfamily Oh Stacy, your videos are the absolute best and really appreciated. I’m from Bondi in Sydney. Australia is a wonderful country however I’m sure I was English in another life because nothing is more beautiful to me than the UK history and countryside! My two nieces live in London so one day I’ve told them to expect me on their doorstep😂I won’t be staying around in London for too long though, I’ll be touring the countryside asap! I particularly love Northumbria and North Yorkshire.
My Mum loves your videos too. And we both can’t get over how adorable Heidi is and what a lovely person you seem. Looking forward to the next video 🌻🪴🙏

I love the ancient cathedrals in England. This one reminds me of Wells Cathedral. I spent 4 weeks in Wells last year & took every tour they offered. These monuments are a treasure! Thanks for sharing!

It is an architectural masterpiece! 😍 The level of detail is phenomenal. The amount of hours of work that went into its creation is beyond my comprehension. Cloisters are indeed very serene, that’s the exact feeling they give you ❤️ So pleased you enjoyed this trip back to Lincoln!

    It’s incredible
When you mentioned the Year it was build , I just kept thinking how were they able to build this on such a Scale and the incredible Detail everywhere , it must have taken such a long time to finish !!!
Thank you 🙏 for showing us this beautiful Gem Stacy!!! 🌸💕

I know!! It blows my mind trying to contemplate it.. it’s beyond anything we can think of being built today, let alone nearly 1000 years ago. There is a series of books by Ken Follett starting with The Pillars Of The Earth which is really good! It follows the main character who builds these pieces of architecture as his living, it’s a very interesting read. But yes, the detail is spectacular!!! 😍

Thank you for the Information on the Books Stacy ! Isn’t there a Series that is called by the same title , which I believe I have watched?! I have to double check! So interesting 🤔

Could do with a good pressure wash couldnt it take all them centuries of grime off the surface of the cathedral and see what it looked like when it was first built..
