    Having booty out as a Cammy cosplay is respect towards the original character.
    Having said booty covered means you don't have respect for their freedom.
    Don't be that person.

      Pretty much shaming us for our bodies, how can we be happy with our bodies when we are being shamed to show off? They tell fat people to not be shamed, yet being too thin/curvy = shame? WTF

      When a man tells a women what to wear it'll be consider sexist and wrong. If a woman dose it's cause its offensive and it's okay to do so.

    if the hotel didn't like it, then they shouldn't have fucking had a convention in the first place to where it's a known absolute fact that people dress up at most conventions.

    • @courage552
      @courage552 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      exactly!

    • @claudiolluberes111

      Maybe they didn't know they make cosplays in those, or what even a cosplay is.

    • @MelancholyJoker19

      Then they should research before allowing a Con to be hosted there.

  • @rocketraccoon1976
    @rocketraccoon1976 8 ปีที่แล้ว +119

    Hotel's fault. Solution: Never book at that hotel again, and warn all other conventions with cosplay not to book there, either. If they want to be prudes, it'll cost them in a lot of lost business.

    • @rocketraccoon1976
      @rocketraccoon1976 8 ปีที่แล้ว +15

      As for the attending prudes who complain, refund their money and kick them out of the convention.

    • @JMcMillen
      @JMcMillen 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      They may have been staying at the hotel, but not attending the convention. Hotels don't always block off all the rooms for the convention so you may have non attendees staying there.

    Yo! This happened to me at Metrocon this weekend! I'm not kidding, and it's my first time legitimately cosplaying! I was cosplaying a genderbend N from Pokemon, with my midriff exposed and shorts because of the Florida heat over there . But as soon as I headed out the con on Friday, security came up to me and made me cover up otherwise they'd give me a first warning so I wouldn't bring my props or else I'll get kicked out entirely, all because someone complained! I spent the rest of the con with my N cosplay but I had a tank top underneath because someone got "offended." I'm not mad about it, just appalled.

  • @prismono
    @prismono 8 ปีที่แล้ว +46

    This makes me so fucking furious. Like now women can't even cosplay a video game character at a con anymore just because OH NO THEIR LEGS ARE SHOWING!??!!?!? like give me a damn break lmao. I find it hilarious how they would listen to the overly sensitive opinion of one person when a whole fucking convention worth of people clearly found now issue with it at all, like how is that even remotely fair? Will I not be able to cosplay Morrigan from Dragon Age to a convention just because she wears a bikini top? You can't make video games with promiscuous female character designs while in the same breath shame women for cosplaying those exact same characters lol.

    • @prismono
      @prismono 8 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Meant to say that if you're gonna support video games as a whole, which has promiscuous character designs up the ass (nothing wrong with that imo), you can't turn around and tell someone to cover up when they cosplay those characters. Sorry I didn't clarify xD Either way, people need to chill the hell out with the hyper-sensitivity to this shit. It's getting obnoxious, like don't like it? Don't look at it lol.

A convention where people come to cosplay all different kinds of characters and you ask them to leave out those with "revealing clothing" is ridiculous, considering a lot of cosplayers will have those types of outfits. You can't possibly be this stupid to not realize this.

    I know a few Black Rock Shooter cosplayers who were forced to cover up as well. DX BRS's outfit is basically a bikini with a cape... they had to keep their capes zipped/closed... It totally ruins the appearance of the outfit. D: One of them even when out of her way to modify the outfit to make it more con appropriate! Guess it didn't matter... OTL
    My opinion: If you have the confidence to cosplay such a character... you should be admired... not told to 'cover up'.

    • @mugentenshin138
      @mugentenshin138 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Actually boot babes was introduced in a time where it was important to get people to turn their eyes towards them, then watch the product afterward, generally used to sell cars back in the day. This was a different time where you didn't have the gatekeepers of journalists and reporters, and customers more commonly had to go to watch the products themselves as Internet wasn't a thing, etc. Also it's hard to get the same effect on video games because the games themselves typically got good looking ladies in them for those that would turn their heads to begin with, and that's more appealing as you can't take the boot babes home, but you can buy say Hatsune Miku and add her to your library. Also about 99,999%+ of the costumer base won't be at the show regardless, and visual screenshots, etc. would be a far better selling point. As such the need for boot babes drop, especially on events mainly meant for the media who bypass that stuff because they want to report on the games, which they should. This would also explain why E3 is dying out, as it has become something the media want more than the actual costumers, where the media themselves struggle to survive while the gaming industry is experiencing another boom. That is a strange trend and topic of discussion in and of itself, where youtubers and podcasters are starting to take over (listening to "radio" on work is a possibility and easier than reading articles, then you can actually play the games when you get back home), of which many doesn't even show up on E3 as they are already tied to a particular brand or game. As such the need for "physical presence" is diminished and the boot babes with it. However, remember that there is a big difference between cosplayers and boot babes, where anyone can cosplay anything while boot babes get payed to stick to a product on visuals alone as models. I personally don't care if the boot babes vanish, but if the cosplayers vanish it is an indication that the fandom vanish with it, which is a far more alarming symptom. Anyways, this wall of text is starting to get quite large so I'll end it at that as it probably won't be read anyways.

Dress code only effects people who are working in a building or going in to a school, and by law if an outfit covers all the no no places (which for women are the vagina and all it's content, the anus and the nipples) then the outfit no matter how scanty is not a violation.

    Phoenix Comicon has steady rules about exposure, but they're already there in the rules. A lot of times simply wearing flesh tone dancewear under the main costume is fine enough. I've seen many a Poison Ivy and Powergirl wearing these and it's no problem with staff. The main reason for the rules is that PHXCC prides itself on being a family friendly event. There's a lot of very young children that turn out with their parents every year, and sadly some parents don't want their kids to be exposed to too revealing costumes.
    BUT from the sound of it this con had no such rules in place. Meaning it was just one massively butthurt individual making a complaint. I feel terrible for this cosplayer. Having someone ruin your photo ops by forcing you to cover up is never cool.

    Why do so many people have a hard time understanding that there are at most 359 angles through which they can view the space around them (and in that case, we're just talking about a 2D plane). This is why I can't stand people who are "offended" by public displays of affection. If a couple is just hugging or kissing (or both) in public, just avert your eyes and stop fucking complaining. Of course, this goes for anything that wussies would consider "offensive," but PDA just happens to be one of those cases that has really pissed me off.

      I will agree with you that not all SJWs and feminists believe in censoring revealing clothes, but you should note that there are sex positive and sex negative sections within feminism. The sex positive feminists do believe that a woman should be able to wear whatever she wants and express her sexuality any way she wants, but the sex negative feminists believe that women are sexually exploited so any time they see a woman in booty shorts or, in this case, a Cammy cosplay, she's being "exploited by men" and should cover up.

    Wow, this is awful, though it's not the first time this has happened before. I think if a hotel is going to run a con, they need to understand the fandom, and that there will be characters who may be coming in with provocative costumes. If someone is offended by this, they can stay offended by it all day but don't complain to the hotel.

    People seem to be thinking she broke some sort of rule. The only reason she was told to change was because of another hotel guests complaint.

    Oh god.... that one was stuipe case. That was one case on that incident during the Asia Anime Festival in Singapore way back few years ago when young cosplayer was told by angry old aunt to cover up her costumes. That one was from the anime series with that skipping outfits.

    You've got a pic of the Cammy character on your vid. Is this what she was wearing? I searched images for this vid and images pertaining to this story. I found several pics, some with full leggings and others with her whole ass showing. It wouldn't offend me, in fact I'd probably take a pic with her but I can understand how it would offend others. Having said that, if there was a dress code, the hotel should have let the convention organizers know about it before hand. I have no idea if it was a con goer that complained or a regular hotel stayee with a thick wallet that said something but I agree that the con shouldn't do any business with them again.
    I understand that people have different opinions and morale perspectives about things. I'm cool with that, just don't harsh my Zen by trying to ram those ideas down my throat. I don't care what it is, whether it be religion, sexual orientation or politics. I'll respect your points of you if you respect mine.

    The comments in the article said it was the owner of the hotel that objected to her outfit.
