If you’d have one bike to choose between this and the Z900RS. Honestly wich one would you pick for a commuter, small trips (1-2 days) and a bit of sport riding in the twisties? The bike that does everything exept adventure touring offroad.

Today I went to my local Harley Davidson dealership just looking around for my first bike. I can say that for me the Nightster I sat on was the most comfortable, simplest, and most importantly to me easy access to clutch with my 6ft 0in long legs and arms frame. As I sat on two street bobs and a road glide it was by far the best, not only that I liked them but the second I sat on it I fell in love with the Nightster. Also I can say that the people at Harley Davidson are the nicest and most helpful people at any dealership that i have been to.

Rode one for the first time yesterday, and I kept saying the exact same things about this bike. I daily ride a ninja, jumped on this like I had ridden it for years. It just feels good. Linear power, comfortable yet sporty as hell. The transmission is smooth, you don’t have to hate it to get it into gear. Harley did an amazing job with this bike. Looking to buy one Tuesday

I test rode one of the first ones to arrive in the California Bay Area. My dad was looking to get back into riding, and his class M wasn't current, so I test road it for him. I was impressed. Loved the rider modes. In sport mode this bike rips, but in standard, and rain, easily accessible to new riders.

Hello MotoJitsu! I totally agree with your comments about the Nightster. I bought mine 5 months ago and I got 2000 plus mileage now. I ride to work for 34 miles back and forth here in central NC. I’m trying to beat the cold weather this winter months here at least in the mid 30’s Fahrenheit. No issues with the overall performance. I added passenger pillon and saddle bags so me and my wife can travel to the mountains and we did once this fall. That was awesome. I’m 5”8 and 135lbs and it just so cool to ride. I love it😎Thank you Sir!

    • @HangTimeSolutions
      @HangTimeSolutions ปีที่แล้ว +1

What it means is competition is good. The water cooled Indian Scout been out since 2015 and was taking market share from Harley Davidson in the beginner group of customers. Which eventually move up to bigger and better bikes. Now Indian must go to the drawing board because this bike has slightly more power and technology which appeals to younger crowds. The scout can easily get more power in the scout because the same engine is in the FTR with more power and the ride modes. They'll probably wait a year or two to see if they loose sales. But they already released the new Chief to take the person who has the budget on the higher end and not ready to go water cooled. And they give options in the bagger and full Tourer with air cooled and water cooled engines with more tech. And not having to upgrade a $30-40K bike for performance. Competition is good this nighter is a great bike hopefully they can sell the history of this being the last year for old style sporties as a one two punch.

I'm in the minority of people who actually LIKES the sound of this bike! Yeah, it sounds like what it is, a high-compression watercooled V-twin, but the people who say it sounds like a Japanese bike are kinda ridiculous-it has a bit of a V8 burble to it, and it sounds MEAN with an exhaust! I'm definitely getting one, even the valid complaints don't scare me.

I do not think it offers cruise control or IMu like Sportster s. So no cornering abs/Tc. It does have TC and abs. Euro 4 requires abs. Euro 5 emissions require TC. Where you see Ducati and KTM offering stability control in just about all their bikes standard, Harley uses sparingly. Even tourers stability control(RDRS) is an option I have been riding for 50 years. I am not 100% all the time but electronics are. Anyway love the nightster, Pan america, and Sportster S. Pan america would make a great touring bike with both horsepower and comfortable electronic suspension. Semiactive suspension is a magic carpet ride

Seating position, very good brakes, and a saddle good enough to sit in for ten hours, for ten days is what's important to me. ;~) The bike is ugly; however, a looong, flat seat, very good brakes, single exhaust, minimal clock, seating position looks comfortable for me (6'2" height, 250# w/32 inseam) based upon your comments re: rider in front of you, handlebars look right for my height, you say good suspension - highway seams are minimal bumps; sounds like a cross-country rider to me. Put enough windshield to keep my helmet clear of wind pressure and I'll try it. I can live with the smaller gas tank and the HD noise. First time in my life I've seen a HD that interested me. Thks for the pertinent comments.

I just don't get the appeal. It used to be that Sportsters were hopelessly outdated compared to European and Japanese stuff... but they did look and sound cool and had a unique (and somewhat archaic) character. Their technical inferiority was kinda, sorta the point. These new ones (Nightster and Sportster S) don't look like Harleys to me and don't really stand out versus the competition. Replace the bar and shield with a Ducati or Honda logo and it wouldn't look wrong.
They're also way more powerful than the OG Sporties, but they're still not as a competent or performant as comparable bikes from other brands. At the same time, they cost even more than the old Sportsters and are probably way out of budget for new guys.
If it had been up to me, and with an unlimited R&D budget, I suppose I would've still built the Sportster S in some form and, maybe, positioned it as a sort of successor to both the V-Rod and the XR1200. But at the same time I would've also produced a Sportster 2.0, making it as modern as possible (and as necessary to make and keep it street-legal in Europe) while retaining the old school look and feel of the thing. I also would've made sure to have at least *one* variant of it I could sell for under €/$ 10k.
I mean... you can't tell me that a brand like Triumph can have both super modern stuff and great looking retro bikes (at affordable prices) in its portfolio at the same time ... and H-D can't do that?

@@mrEz87 define inferior tech. The Nightster has 3 ride modes, TC, ABS, brembo brakes, ect. Everything a sport bike has, plus it can ride a passenger more comfortable. Seems your problem with it isn't that it lacks tech, it's that you want a sport bike and priortize performance above those other things. Sport bikes are awesome and I love to admire them, but I have no use for one. To me, a Nightster would be much more worth the pricetag than any sport bike. It all depends on what you want out of a bike.
It does cost money to build things in Japan, just not as much as in America. They don't have the same wages, nor standard of living as we do here. As for them making better bikes, that is subjective.

My problem with the nightser is that is a genre isnt really aimed at even being a cruiser. Which is fine, but.... You buy the bike to look cool, that's it. If you wanted pillion comfort, rider modes, TC buy a versys or gsxs100gt for example. They have all the things you mention and are cheaper.
The standard of living argument is biased and totally irrelevant. I know how happy I am and you know how happy you are, but not how happy someone in Japan is!
Money talks and I bet they don't sell enough to keep making the nightster.

@@mrEz87 no we don't know how happy anyone is in Japan, though happiness is different than standard of living. Happiness is subjective and deals with emotion, while standard of living is objective and deals with economic data.
Time will tell if the Nightster stays. HD went this way because a lot of people were complaining that HDs were slow, underpowered, ect. So they made a sportier cruiser under the SPORTster name, like the sportster was originally. Now a lot of the same people are complaining it's not "Harley" enough. I like what they're doing, conventional buyers will go big twin. Sportier minded riders, who still want a cruiser, now have an option. I'm hoping for a Roadster with inverted forks, dual discs, the 1250 motor, and more ground clearence. More like a naked/ standard, but that can take bags, and a decent passenger seat.
I don't find the versys or gsxs to have enough character for me to really enjoy. Fine bikes, do their thing well enough, but not very interesting to me. Same with the Rebel 1100, exceptionally vanilla.

However, a V-Twin without the potatopotato just isn't a HD.

I can’t take this bike seriously with the engine’s aesthetic design. Looks like a “cool” design from the 1990’s.
Definitely doesn’t have the Harley cool factor, and falls pretty far behind Indian’s Scout engine design.
