Canon EOS 200D II (SL3) vs Sony A6100

- If you are getting into photography or videography you might have come across these two awesome cameras: Canon EOS 200D Mark II (SL3) and Sony a6100. If you can't decide with which one to go with and what are the main differences between them, I made a short video where:
- First I look at features that mostly interest photographers;
- Second, looking at videographer needs;
- And lastly - overall comparison.

I have been using Canon for about 8 years but Sony for about 3. Both are excellent cameras and will definitely do the job. I have no interest in advertising one or the other brand/camera, I am simply comparing the features based on available specifications and adding my interpretation of what it means for you as a user.

Bought the sl3 today after a reccomendation from my photographer friend and comparing these two cameras on rtings testing images. The cannon looked wayyyy sharper in images and the colors popped more, though the color pop could be due to the lighting. I thought the low light scenes looked better on the cannon too, the sony looked tinged green and the noise lines were more prominent. Rtings rated the sony higher too, but the photographic evidence provided just doesnt support the claim in my opinion
Is sony a6000 better than Canon 200D II ?

Yes, definitely. Mainly because of amazing AutoFocus ability on Sony. Canon is way behind the Sony in this area when comparing these 2 models.

5:15 You're wrong. The reason why it's capable of getting more shots is because it has an optical viewfinder which drains less battery.

Oh my, I don't know if my English is bad but I clearly say in the video several times that Sony a6100 is much better than Canon@@arbazchoudhary6817here is the text from the video:
Sony has Fast Hybrid AF with 425 points vs only 9 points or Canon. This means that auto focus capabilities for Sony is miles ahead and it will focus much faster, much more accurately and way more reliably.
On top of that - Sony has a Real-time Face AND Eye AF for both human and animal subjects, as well as Real-time Tracking, where Canon only has face detection.
Canon is capable of shooting 5 frames per second which is below average for a 2019 camera, while Sony fires away with a speed of 11 frames per second.
CONCLUSION
In my opinion, Sony clearly wins the hearts of photographers, mainly because of the Auto Focus. Rest of the things being very similar don't make almost any difference in performance and both cameras are very good, but the autofocus on Sony is just remarkable.

I own Sony a6000 and Sony a6400 which is very similar to a6100. I have owned Sony A7II and used A7III. I have owned several Canon cameras including Canon 1100D, Canon 60D and Canon 5D Mark II. I have used Canon 200D and other brands like Fuji, Nikon etc. Of course I also use facts from the website since I can't remember everything by heart. Unfortunately I couldn't get my hands on both of the cameras at the same time to compare them in real life but I feel pretty confident about my knowledge. Hope that answers your question Aleksey :)

Yup, I noticed it after making the video and actually put a note on the bottom of the screen at the moment when I mention it in the video.
This is not sl3 my friend, 200D is actually the SL2 , you may want to check this :)
As you can see in the title, I am talking about 200D Mark II which is SL3. You are right that 200D is SL2 but I am not talking about that camera :)

Cameras may not hit your pocket hard, but the lenses will make you go bankrupt.

No it's not Sangma. Sony a6100 has Real-time Eye AF for photos, but it does NOT have it for videos. As you can see in this part of the video I am talking about the Photography capabilities of this camera and not the video.

Leo, if your budget allows and you wanna do videos - get the a6100. It will last you for years and will save some trouble regarding audio and flip up screen. For photos, you can go ahead with a6000 and get yourself a nice lens. Either way, you will manage just right 💪

If you are interested in videography then i would say wait for a camera that can do 4k 60fps. There is no option for that in budget catagory, Cheapest 4k 60fps right now is i think Fujifilm X-T3 at $1000 , but finding lenses for this camera is another story. I was really hoping sony would up its 4k game with A6100 and A6600, but they still gave 4k 30fps that was in A6300 which came out in 2016. If you are going to use this camera for next 4 to5 years then buy a camera with 4k 60fps. I am still using my A6000 since last 4 years waiting for next sony camera with 4k 60fps since i have invested too much money in sony lenses. Do your research, don't hesitate to spend a little extra because it pays off eventually in my experience.
Bro, these are some golden words@@The3dsGeek I am on the exact same page as you. I had the A7II but unfortunately, it never came out of repair so I picked up a6000 just for fun. I didn't wanna go with A7III because I was waiting for A7IV to come out. Then the A7C happened and boy I was disappointed it didnt come with 4k60fps. So here I am, still waiting for the 4k60fps, just like you my friend. If there is not going to be a crazy deal for A7III on Black Friday, then I will just wait until the A7IV comes (I expect Q3 next year)... Let me know what you decide to grab.
@@TomsJurjaks I am really into sony ecosystem now, have spent too much on Sony lenses and I am in love with their auto focus. I am not looking to move away from Sony at this point. Was really excited for Sony A7SIII for its 4k 120Fps, but then again, will have to sell my left kidney to be able to afford it, costs 4400USD in my country. I was really tempted towards fujifilm but it had a terrible lens availability and pricing. Let's see which options we get in 2021. You keep up the good work, just subscribed.
