I ran the kreg foreman for many years and I recently bought a foot operated castle machine and I realized quickly how much better the castle machine is. The pocket is a lot stronger and you can back the screw out and align the parts perfectly and re tighten the screw. There isn’t much if any play with the kreg. The lower pocket angle makes it so much stronger it’s crazy.
I would also have a problem over time with the kreg fence slipping back and messing the parts up and my guys don’t realize it until the frames are already assembled. The castle machine is designed differently and the back fence cannot easily move over time.
I used to have a shop and build cabinets but eventually got into trimming out new homes. It was a bit of a learning curve at first and I had to buy several new tools but I like going into houses before the floor is even down and make all the mess I want. It also pays better (at least in my area), the work is steady, and I no longer spend my time off thinking about my current and future jobs. I felt like the repetitiveness of going to the same place of work every day and basically doing the exact same thing was slowly destroying my soul 😅
Dumpster companies are the worst companies on earth to work with. That's all I have to say on that. I had the same thoughts about horizontal plywood storage at first but I have found the same things as you, vertical plywood storage seems to be way more practical for a smaller shop. I was initially going to purchase a bunch of horizontal plywood racking but I'm glad I didn't at this point. Especially being that I don't have a fork lift. I like how you tucked that bandsaw in there. I might see if I can do the same thing with mine. That's a great idea. The shop is looking great. We both moved shops at similar time so I feel the pain. I'm looking to get a sliding table saw, wide belt sander, and I'd love to have that same edge bander as you. But it's a journey and you can get over your skis real quick with overextending our finances on shop equipment. Shop equipment is a deep tunnel...
Dumpster companies are so annoying lol Thanks man. It has come a long way this year. Your shop is looking great too. I think you will greatly benefit from a slider. I would love to upgrade to a full size at some point. It is tempting to just take out a bunch of loans and upgrade everything but things can get out control pretty quick lol. Every time I got hurt you know like laid my hand open , smashed my foot ( I broke my toes so many times dropping stuff on my foot I dare not to wear anything but a boot ) was unloading sheets ( melamine!) laying flat ! Vertical is the wat to go Josh !
The horizontal storage... looks like you are storing some slabs. If you're dealing more in sheet goods and usable hardwoods, I like the idea of vertical storage in your shop. You could house a lot more usable material which would be easier to stow and access. And then have room in the corner to store your install tooling. Hopefully you have room to squeeze the stuff you want to hang onto in the storage area. Store or sell the racks. (Like I know anything.) Shop is looking good.
Those drawers R expensive! I ordered 6 , DT, hard figured maple , not any huge ones $700. I mean customer paid for it and 20% but trust if I missed they were all mine ! Yikes !

Check out the castle TSM-22. It’s now my favorite operation in the shop.
