      Technically yes was a close call but if you are a master need to be ready everywhere at every time and against other Sith strong use of the force. He wasnt prepared for that Sith sorcery stuff but if he chose to study more after learning essense transfer he couldve bested her easily, the circumstances that led to his demise were of his own choosing to get this having to train another apprentice while persecuted by his former apprentice hypocricy of his philosophy by both parties and he decided to just fight to end it with whoever was stronger. But he couldve easily learned more about sorcery to defend himself against it if he felt it was more important than keeping his philosophy alive by not breaking its tenants at that point in time. I reckon the timing of cognus coming into the fold ruined Bane's future plans as he was searching for a new body to transfer and continue being the master possibly learning more and making sure Zannah ascends as per the philosophy tenants. He was already frail, trembling hands and slower than his prime days.

    • @stevenmartinezgarcia9829
      @stevenmartinezgarcia9829 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Zannah is smart from learning from the best not from being able to come up with smart things as a natural trait. Her perfecting Sith sorcery to beat his master was essentially her master telling her to become stronger on the things youbare good at even to her lightsaber form because her body ratio couldnt take most of the other forms so she needed to use a form that perried most if not all forms and attack when the enemy did a stupid move. If Zannah wasnt trained by Bane her dark side abilities and lightsaber form wouldve been a nothingburger for Bane.

    • @illumi9044
      @illumi9044 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@stevenmartinezgarcia9829 I gotta disagree for a few reasons:
      1. She’s not exactly Sidious, but espionage feats/manipulation feats are still extremely good
      2. Bane didn’t pick Zannah arbitrarily. He choose her multiple other candidates that were also extremely strong force sensitives
      3. Zannah was described multiple times as being a unit in the force. Bane flat out said that her abilities in the dark side *may* be better than his. That’s as a force user, not a duelist, which lends credibility to the “knowledge of the dark side” feats
      4. Saying that specialization in Soresu makes you weak is a little insulting to Obi Wan.

    Traya and Valkorion should be on the lists at least.
    I'd also argue that Palpatine should be tier 1.5...and for good reasons.
    As he did not make the plan (technically) and he more or less hijacked it.
    Though Palpatine executed the Sith's plans, he also laid the ground work to forever weaken and practically destroy the Sith.
    Now if we take the non-canon and EU parts of Palpatine...then he just contradicts himself at several points. Almost as bad as 'somehow, Palpatine returned.'
    Now you can go and tell me 'well in the EU there are so many different writers and source material to work with'...keeping in mind the effects the EU has on other Jedi and Sith....as well as...YOU CAN'T PICK AND CHOOSE from each material.
    Palpatine is VERY smart, but to such a degree that he can hinder himself....which I go into below....for some time. (tl;dr at bottom)
    I think, that if Palpatine did not have his 'natural' ability to hide himself in the force and did not have a Sith master that he'd never have accomplished nearly anything as much. He could have rose to political power, but he'd be more much ignorant of the force and the truth of the Jedi's weaknesses and their view of the prophecy.
    In other words...Jedi would have remained, no Order 66, the Clone Wars may not have happened at all and Sidious would be incapable of fighting the likes of Yoda or most other Jedi Masters.
    Sidious relied heavily on deception and hiding himself. Taking soul credit for his master's scheme.
    I will admit he had a good talent for adjusting things on the fly....but I'd advise people look at the Clone Wars episodes around the Zilo Beast, the temple bombing/Ahsoka leaving the Order, and the Inhibitor chips premature activation.
    Starting with the Zilo Beast...he underestimates the creature at every turn and pretty well relied on the rapid response of Jedi and Clones to save him. Many people argued in the past that Palpatine just wanted the creature's scales for some kind of armor or weapon...but he willingly kept the creature on Coruscant (which benefited him in NO way) when he could have easily had it killed...or relocated somewhere out of the way. Though he had good ambitions, it fell short when it came to choices made.
    Next we have Ahsoka and the temple bombing. He could have made use of Barriss in some way. If he was half as smart or powerful as people claim he could have reached out to Barriss to have her 'rehabilitate' and help hurt the Jedi from within. Or even have her 'scout' for potential Jedi to corrupt/make future inquisitors. As far as we know...he did not.
    He also failed to make use of Ahsoka to drive a further wedge between Anakin and the Jedi. Ahsoka left the Order on her own terms when Palpatine easily could have fanned the flames and made Anakin distrust...if not dislike...the Order and High Council MUCH earlier. This leads into a lot of 'if-and-or-but' sort of talk, so I will cut it off there.
    Lastly we have the inhibitor chips malfunctioning...Palpatine was clearly panicking during this event....which is surprising as people always praise him for 'always having a plan' when it is clear he had no plans for an experimental (yet crucial) piece of bio-tech to malfunction in Clones who would be under a lot of mental pressure and would likely suffer head trauma...you don't need to go to medical school to suggest some kind of plan for such occurrences.
    Now I am going to circle back around, as my final and most simple point....Sidious tried to bury the Sith as much as he did the Jedi.
    He effectively removed anything about 'Sith' from the galaxy at large as much as he did the Jedi.
    The Sith were not common knowledge during the Clone Wars era to the point where it meant something to everyone, but the educated and people who lived in world with a history tied to the Sith and Jedi surely knew some of it (as we see in the canon comics in a few occasions).
    tl;dr - Canon Sidious/Palpatine took an existing plan and executed it (lets not get into the 'born with camouflage' excuse to why Jedi never found him in the first place). Though smart he failed to make some obvious contingency/failsafe plans and made some (relatively obviously) poor calls. Or lack of thought into potential routes/outcomes.
    EU Sidious/Palpatine is too much of a mess to make an argument for imho.

    Oke but Did you ever hear the tragedy of Darth Plagueis The Wise? I thought not. It's not a story the Jedi would tell you. It's a Sith legend. Darth Plagueis was a Dark Lord of the Sith, so powerful and so wise he could use the Force to influence the midichlorians to create life… He had such a knowledge of the dark side that he could even keep the ones he cared about from dying. The dark side of the Force is a pathway to many abilities some consider to be unnatural. He became so powerful… the only thing he was afraid of was losing his power, which eventually, of course, he did. Unfortunately, he taught his apprentice everything he knew, then his apprentice killed him in his sleep. Ironic. He could save others from death, but not himself

He just wanted to be the one who enacted the great plan. Ultimately he failed as did the previous two lords of the Sith as they all strayed from the path of two. If they had kept to the plan they would have had a complete victory.
      Sidious is also made to look better than he is due to ineptitude of the Jedi who had grown complacent and weak,especially under Yoda the avatar of failure himself.

    • @stevenmartinezgarcia9829
      @stevenmartinezgarcia9829 ปีที่แล้ว

      The plan that Plagueis did was the plan that put the Sith in power not Sidius. Plagueis even knew Anakin was no good for that plan and told palpatine to make sure Qui Gon was not to train Anakin and to possibly kill Anakin, padme, Obi Wan and Qui Gon. Palpatine then went against that chose to kill only Qui Gon and Obi wan, failed to kill Obi Wan and chose to manipulate Anakin to turn to his apprentice in secrecy as he got Plageis drunk to replace the rule of 2 when he executed Plagueis own order 66 plan. Palpatine was already breaking the rule of 2 by bringing Count Dooku and Maul into the fold and calling them Sith while also having a master of his own. The way Sidius disposed of Plagueis wouldve made Bane roll in his grave as Bane emphasized that an apprentice needed to contest his master on merits of power not through the other own dying of old age or taking advantage of their misfortunes. Plagueis also did the no no when he dispatched Tenebrae but under that philosophy if you are not strong enough to survive then you are not meant to be called a master. The whole getting drunk on the victory of your execution of the plan to kill you is weak and why ultimately why he failed rulling for less than 50 years lol.

      Darth Vader was so dumb he wouldnt find a way to see that with that shitty suit Sidius gave him made him weak to his masters ability. He should have worked on a suit that absorb electrical abilities to enhance his power while protecting his weaknesses. And this is something that Palpatine tested him over and over and he failed. It looks like palpatine wanted a better apprentice but knew if they werent cunning and smarter than him to beat him he was not going to let them ascend as they needed to best him themselves and for him it was a joy ride when they were short of it, even seeing potential in star killer but easily disposing him, pretty much saying he couldve been stronger than him but he is dumb by coming here thinking he can kill everyone through sheer will and power. Darth Vader was simply waiting for someone to save him, a victim doing his master biddjng trying to find someone to save him even luring Luke to help him defeat his master which is a no no in Banes philosophy,

    Naga Sadow - Tier 2
    Vitiate/Valkorion - Tier 1
    Darth Zannah - Tier 1
    Darth Cognus - Tier 3 (screwed up 1 apprentice, next one doesn't even get named)
    Darth Caedus - Tier 2 (his was a sacrifice to the dark side, he united the galaxy against him intentionally)
    Darth Talon - Tier 3 (lickspittle)
    Darth Wyrlock - Tier 2 (Underestimated a guy he had ages to study)
    Darth Krayt - Tier 1 (potentially the most broadly knowledgable sith aside from Caedus)

    Totally disagree with Bane being on Tier 1. Dude did nothing special on his own, his horrible Rule Of 2 came after instructions from Revans Holocron & only lasted for 20yrs after 1,000yrs of practice. Was he tactical yes..... but what new spells did he create oh that's right none, he had NO talent with Sith Sorcery (said so himself), Tier 3 at best or not on this list at all. When you could have put Exar Kun, Marka Ragnos, Darth Traya, Tenebrea or Sorzus Syn. Then you place too low Darth Andeddu

      Banes Rule of 2 is the only reason Sith are a thing at the BBY. Bane is 5D chess intelligence.

    • @stevenmartinezgarcia9829
      @stevenmartinezgarcia9829 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sidius is smart for being opportunistic and cunning not for tactical/technical intelligence and it shows on his rule for less than half a century and declining when he lost his apprentice.
The whole getting drunk on the victory of your execution of the plan to kill you is weak.

      @@DaG.O.A.T. You can disagree all you want thats your freedom... But Sidius was made- not self found. His intelligence was revealed by his actions and subsequent downfall. If even when you get crutched into being the ultimate Sith with a handful of jedi to contest your rule all setup for the taking and somehow you manage to screw it up in less than a century shows he simply squandered what many Sith before him worked hard for through real intelligence, tactics and secrecy. Order 66 is Plagueis workings, Sidius worked hard to get where he was and probably the only one who could execute the plan because of charisma, cunning and insidious use of the force to veil himself infront of the enemy but maintaining that power is the true test of intelligence. To lose by rebels shows he had no idea what he was doing after Plagueis plan was done and he lost direction using Darth Vader to secure victories through fear and force. Why else do you think seeing Anakins battle accomplishments really did it for him as his perfect apprentice, he just wanted to sit in his thrown and let someone else get it done with the intelligence ( do the thinking) so to speak.

    • @stevenmartinezgarcia9829
      @stevenmartinezgarcia9829 ปีที่แล้ว

      he was smart enough to give Vader a shitty suit to not get dispatched easily Knowing that was always his one up between them and the real test to Vader to find a way to improve himself to prove that he can defeat his master but he never did most likely cause he remembering his pain made him strongers otherwise he wouldve fallen to conscience way earlier than the end of the Luke vs Sidious fight. Vader is also a failed Sith and I don't understand why people like Vader so much, besides his good but tragic story, him as a sith is the biggest joke and poser of what a Sith is, similar to Kylo Ren in the shitty movies but atleast Kylo tried to figure it out a bit. His approach to the philosophy was teach me all I can learn master with 0 intent to finding it by himself, a true puppet, looking for people that can help him defeat his own master while licking his boots in the process lol

    Bane is number 1, without Bane theres noone else in Sith to even make it this far to the present. Bane not only had noone showing him the ropes he had to find it himself. Find the holocrons of old and setup the tenants that built the Sith Empire to what it came to be. If a Sith mid way through the centuries didnt screwed it all up by starting to edge in their points about killing your master when he is at his weakest point. The Sith wouldve ruled for more than 30 years at the end with Sidius. Revan helped influence/ remind Bane but he didnt put it in place. In the book Bane said his holocron was more of a comfirmation or serendipity of what he always felt was the way. His use os spying, toplling governments, training an apprentice strong enough that only strength and command of the force and lightsaber form are tested in a 1v1 between master and apprentice not opportunistic use of old age, deception or frailty be the thing that transfer power but true strength, insidiousness, understanding of politics and force abilities what bring forward a true master. Everyone else in the list are people who betrayed those things and led to the demise of the Sith order itself cause they werent followed to a T.
