    Related to what Chiara was saying about falling on slabs, my friend pointed out to me that one of the reasons it's probably scarier to fall on slabs is because on overhanging routes, you really feel like you're gonna fall when your fingers give out, but on slabs it can just be a foot slip. So on slabs, you are less aware of when the fall might actually happen and it will feel less controlled.

    Such a good video! The way you got all these amazing climbers to open up, the editing & cuts between interview and climbs, the scenery, the music - I mean it’s so intimidating to reflect on your fears sometimes but this video was like a friend calming you down. Keep it up ☺️

    Thank you for this inspiring video, Ben! It's really good to know, that the fear is totally normal and most of the climbers have it.
    For me it's always hard, because the fear is always coming back. There are weeks without it and then it's back and I am not able to to mini falls. It mostly took me a lot of time to fight the fear down again.
    So thank you for your videos which always inspire me and keep me fighting.

    Important is where the fall occurs. Dynamic belaying lower in a route can result in the climber landing on the ground and getting injured in the process. Thus avoid slack lower down.

    • @the_zenclimber
      @the_zenclimber 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Well.. i’m an old skool climber and know the history of Ceüse a bit…
      Patrick Edlinger bolted a lot of routes from the top, driving around and then lowering down. He also tried the routes toprope before sending, which was frowned upon by some.
      He wanted to be sure that the crux was freeclimbed , and not pulled on a quickdraw, so if you follow the bolts while standing on the ground you could easily spot where the crux was: the point where all of a sudden bolts were even further apart. When other climbers added more routes, the style was kept the same, and now Ceüse is famous for it :-)

It is amazing to me how calm I am able to be when climbing at night, when I can not easily tell how high I am. I wonder how many other people allow other fears and anxieties to intrude on their climbing and add to the very natural fear of falling.
