    Another awesome video. Can't help imagining your thoughts on the contrast between your sailing adventures and your real life occupation back in Europe. Glad you are living the adventure for us all! Thanks.

    Looks a bit cruiser than the ocean crossing. Glad to catch up on your adventures Vernon since meeting in Gladstone.

      Hi Meredith, yeah it was just what the doctor ordered to be honest. Well worth the tough times.

    The Thin Red Line (TRL). This episode made me think of this film (not the book). Other than the location of Solomon Islands, which is where the film story was based on, something you said (about no conflict) reminded me of the initial experiences of Private Witt in TRL.

    I walk along the same beach and saw the ship World Discoverer. That was in 2012. It's a very beautiful place though.

      Yes it is, I like that place and the people living there. They gave me hospitality and almost everything I need to survive.

    Were there any remnants of the war? On top of the locals and everything you showed us, not minimizing that at all, but the historical significance of the place makes it somewhere special.

      Oh yeh, there is still lots of stuff to be found there, old tanks, bunkers etc and for divers there is many great spots.

    Wyspy Salomona są panoramiczne z tropikalną przyrodą. Ludzie przyjacielscy i gościnni. Film jest dobrą pamiątką z urlopu.

    These places are so beautiful.. And here I am, stranded in a concrete, asphalt and brick jungle called a city...
    Seriously, living in a city I think is somewhat slowly killing us inside.. Mindless drones walking to and from work every day.. Working to live, just existing, but not really being alive.
    I mean, look at the water in the video.. Now go to any city near the water and look at the water there. Look at the scenery, shit, consider waking up to that everyday instead of looking out the window seeing nothing but other buildings, vehicles and asphalt... Barely a natural thing in sight.. (Sure, there are some trees) but most stuff is planted by humans to make it less citylike..
    But selling everything is a huge undertaking,.. It leads to the unknown, unsecure etc.. But I don't want to work all day in and out just to pay off my bills like I am now.. I think one should be able to work 3-6 months of the year and just enjoy the rest.
    Truly wonderful videos, I hope there's a lot more!

      I'm glad my videos are making you think about this stuff. Life is an uncertainty, you could die tomorrow. I don't think there is any great risk in doing what makes you happy. The bigger risks is doing what you hate and knowing it.

    Very cool place! We were curious about whether that gentleman was hoping for compensation or not too. The bartering sounds fair.

    • @SailingLearningByDoing

      Indeed a beautiful little paradise. Joseph didn't ask for direct payment or show any interest in it. He was just very interested in us, our lives and what we were about. So we exchanged lots of info. We gave him some presents, tools etc as a thank you.

      I was also curious how one would buy a carving. I dont imagine cash has much "value"

    Amazing! I'm curious about something though: did Joseph approach you hoping to get generously compensated for his time?

    • @SailingLearningByDoing
      @SailingLearningByDoing  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      aui nsrt thanks! No I don’t think so. There were others that saw us as a source of wealth but Joseph never asked for anything. We always paid or bartered for all the fruit and vegetables etc. Joseph was just real curious about everything we did. Wanted to know about our lives. We swapped some good presents on departure too. Awesome place.

      Does it fucking matter ???? How could someone as pure in heart as Joseph charge someone for bananas that grow on the trees?????

    Are these islands safe? no Crocodiles?

    • @SailingLearningByDoing
      @SailingLearningByDoing  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes there are some crocs for sure, we actually got attacked by one in Marovo Lagoon. Basically if the local kids are swimming then I do too.
