      Plant Based Dads Quick question...do you snack at all in between meals? And if so, what do you snack on?

    • @PlantBasedDads
      @PlantBasedDads  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yes, I usually eat fruit a few times a day. Mostly bananas, pears and right now Sumo oranges are in season so I eat those too.

    The starch solution is just so eye-opening. I discovered it after feeling really, really sick on an 11 day water fast I had planned to do for 30 days. It inspired me so much, I broke that fast, and as soon as I started eating again I put on every single pound I had lost during it. It was so frustrating. 13 days into eating following this book, I lost 2 pounds! It's nothing amazing, but losing anything while eating big portions felt wonderful to me. I also feel so much more energetic than I ever felt before, and finally have the motivation to do exercise too!
    I've been Vegan for 6 years, but most of those years were either starving myself, or eating far too many Vegan junk foods, I lost no weight (I'm literally over 100 lbs overweight, it's terrible). I feel like I'm a bad example for Veganism, hopefully I can stick to this way of eating and change that.

      Karen Elizabeth, you may have blood sugar problems for the first few days to a week (while the fat is cleared from your blood). After that you should be fine. But you may not have any problems at all, you never know until you try.

      Hi michael. I too have been keto/ very low carb for about 3 years. Weight loss stopped about 1 year ago - still trying to find out why Lchf stopped working. Some say i must lower fatintake so i tried that , not working. Also tried carb-ups - not working. Now I am seriously concidering switching to this starch solution way of eating, but i'm scared what a sudden high carb meals would do in my body after not eating them for so long. Have you lost weight with SS eating? Did you gain weight when first started? How long since starting does weight go down? Regards Jo

    I came from vegetarianism (36 years) to plant-based whole food via my diabetes (type 2) not getting better - so I switched finally - having reduced my diary and cheese intake over the proceeding months and went Whole Food Plant-Based with no SOS in August 2019 and have lost 30 kg (circa 66 pounds in those other units LOL) - I was have the Starch Solution cookbook but have tended to use other recipebooks - the Esselstyns and Forks over Knives - I now take considerably less medication for my type 2 diabetes - so much so that my diabetologist only wants to see me every two years rather than every six months as in the past.

    Oftentimes, there is a candida situation that is dying off and the gut is healing in the beginning. It can take up to three, or four months for this inner healing to complete. Do you have a white tongue in the morning? That is a GOOD sign you have die off happening. This was my same situation and after three months the weight started dropping off. I wasn't eating much food at all before Starch Solution, but the candida over growth (from sugar and FAT) was making me FAT. Even though I wasn't losing weight initially, my joints felt SO much better within two weeks! That alone was motivation to keep going.

    I'm back on low fat as of today. I'd ventured off into lower carb, HIGH fat vegan and started gaining weight and am feeling weak. I was eating A LOT of nut/seed butters. Now I see why Chef AJ had to quit nuts/seeds in order to lose weight.

      Ok, so good point. I LOVE LOVE LOVE nuts/seed butters. I LOVE avocado. And, those are whole food and plant based. You cant go wrong, right? Ummmm not true. But of course, like Dr. McDougall says, "The fat you eat is the fat you wear". It sucks because those are literally my favorite foods. But once I get the weight off, I can incorporate those back into my diet in moderation, and you will be able to also. I mean, who wants to eat Polenta instead of nut butters? HA! Not me. But for now, it has to work. Right?

    That's awesome good transformation. I think a lot of people don't understand that most of the diets that are out there are quick fix. Or you have to measure and pre-pack your food. Why all these ideas work they don't always work for everyone. I've tried and I'm still on the starch solution. And it makes total sense. I've even prescribed versions of it to clients at the gym specifically if they don't want to follow a traditional cutting weight diet. I get good results with the starch solution as long as they are being truthful about their intake. You will think at first that you need protein. But you get plenty of it what most likely people feel while they're on the starch solution is there body cutting weight and eating fat. They're going to gravitate towards eating fat even though you're putting an extra thousand calories into your meal. The 10 lb are always the hardest to lose then I would say that Robert cheeke method is a little bit easier when you got to lose that extra weight and you want to get ripped. But the storage solutions great for everyone you don't have to measure your food just got to eat the starch and follow the percentages on a flight. And there's tons of variety in combinations

      Hi Christine. Ok, so that was happening to me. Here is what I am doing. If I cant eat what's on my plate, I just eat part of it, and then put the plate in the fridge. I am now eating breakfast too. I have a "What I eat in a day" video I am filming this week so that will show you how I get my exercise in and all that. Congrats on the 4lb weight loss. Yep, I need to drop 30lbs more to get to 137. Thats the goal. I do a lot of photos on Instragam but at some point, they all get made into videos on this TH-cam show. So just tune in every Monday and you should see everything I am eating. I am loving this diet so far. Thanks so much for watching.

    • @PlantBasedDads
      @PlantBasedDads  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Go for it! Even though you still have to have a calorie deficit because math is the foundation of all of this, by using half a plate of starch and half veggies, the veggies add volume to the starches so you are full for just half a plate of calories. Where as restricting yourself never works, because it makes you hungry because you don't have enough food. Doing this diet, you are full, not snacking all day and still getting minimal calories at the end of the day. So glad you like it. I am going to do a video where I put all my meals in a calorie counter for the day and show how I am still under my limit for the day had I been on Weight Watchers of something like that. Let's do this together and keep each other accountable. - Joey.

    I am 6 feet tall. I was 145 pounds when I graduated high school. At 215 pounds all my joints hurt and my energy level was terrible. September 1, 2019 I started the Mcdougall program. After about 6 months I stopped losing weight at 166 pounds. I have a lot more energy and my joint pain is gone! I feel 10 years younger.
    I can eat all I want of the right foods and I am not snacking all the time! My joints don't hurt anymore. One downside is my 40 inch waist is 34 inches now and the bib overalls I wear are $90.00 a pair! Anybody need some 40x34 work pants?

      Cora. I loves me some Kiki! Ok, if you are not losing weight you are getting too many calories and too much fat and maybe even eating too much processed foods. These, nuts, cheese and oils have a lot of fat in them, even infrequently. Can I ask you to write down for 7 days every single thing you put in your mouth. From the moment you wake up till you hit the bed at night. Then you can either send the info to me in email (plantbaseddads@gmail.com) or look them over yourself. HI Karen. Join our Facebook Group: Plant Based Dads Starch Solution Enthusiasts. We are all on The Starch Solution in that group, and it's all people meal prepping on the weekends, showing pics of their foods during the week and supporting each other. Plus, I can help you directly if you are in that group. As far as your question, you HAVE to be getting too many calories. Are you doing half a plate of whole food starches on one side and half a plate of whole veggies on the other? Use a smaller plate for each meal. If you get hungry between meals have another small plate meal. Dr. McDougall in the book talks about what to do if you just are not losing weight on this. He says completely eliminate fats, have 4-5 smaller meals instead of 3 big meals, limit fruits to once a day. I would be willing to bet that you are just getting in too many calories. Download Chronometer and start tracking your calories. You can add the ingredients into Chronometer and it will create the calorie and fat info for you for that meal so you can do that if you use a recipe that doesn't have nutrient info. Otherwise, write down everything you put in your mouth for 3 days and Then go back and try and do a calorie count (or join the FB group and message me from there and i'll do it). Another thing is, are you eating leafy greens as your veggies? I like to have a bowl of salad for my veggies as many times a week as I can for dinner cause it cleans you all out inside. Sounds gross but thats what it does. Seriously , start with a smaller plate (maybe a side plate) and use that for your breakfast, lunch and dinner. And when you get hungry between meals, have another portion of whatever meal you had previously eaten on that smaller plate. I bet that alone would be successful for a week. We will make this work for you!

      Often times there is a candida situation and that is dying off and the gut is healing in the beginning. It can take up to three months for this inner healing to complete. Do you have a white tongue in the morning? That is a GOOD sign you have die off happening. This was my same situation and after three months the weight started dropping off. I wasn't eating much food at all before Starch Solution, but the candida over growth was making me FAT. Even though I wasn't losing weight initially, my joints felt SO much better within two weeks! That alone was motivation to keep going.

    I'm starting this plan on Monday. I've done just about every diet you can imagine. They either restrict your calories, restrict your carbs, or both. I need to be able to eat and I really don't want to give up rice and bread and pasta. I have so many health issues and I'm really hoping this helps. I'm sick and tired of feeling sick and tired.

    • @PlantBasedDads
      @PlantBasedDads  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hi Brittany. I felt the same way. Dieting is still about restricting calories, there is no getting around that. The idea of the Starch Solution is that whole food starches are lower in calories and denser in nutrients. So if you fill up your plate with 400 calories in potatoes or pasta on one side and 50 calories of broccoli on the other, you are stuffed for 450 calories. The key to this diet is filling up your entire plate and making sure half of it is veggies that have very few calories. You are always eating enough food and you are eating foods that are great for your health. I think that you will really like it. Thanks for coming on the journey with us. Lets keep each other accountable. We got this! -Joey

      Aww thanks so much. I am only 5'1" so that 30lbs is a lot of weight for me. Remember that you are eating whole food carbs, not junk food carbs. There are a lot of videos that explain how that is different. You still dont want to overeat, because in the end, it is about calories in calories out. But, if you stick to whole food carbs on half your plate and non starchy veggies on the other half, you will see a different for sure. Thanks for joining me on this journey and welcome aboard Mari!

      Hi Karen. I have a video on how I make that called Braised Red Cabbage. It's a recipe in the Instant Pot. Check it out. It's pretty simple to make and is really flavorful.

      On the McDougall protocols, carrots are not a starch, that is correct. Thanks so much for watching.

    I love the Starch Solution and I wish I could eat this way but unfortunately I have very bad adrenal fatigue which messes up my blood sugar with all the carbs. When I eat high carb/low fat, it makes me very tired. Gotta heal these adrenals first.

    • @PlantBasedDads
      @PlantBasedDads  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Wow, I have never heard of Whole Foods affecting anyones diet negatively. But, I am not familiar with Adrenal Fatigue in any way. Yes, if thats the case, then you gotta make yourself healthy of course.

      Hey Love, I had severe adrenal fatigue a few years ago. I recommend you take Gaia Adrenal Nightly Restore. It's liquid extract of herbs to heal your adrenals. I wasn't able to eat carbs without feeling like I would faint and was having severe panic attacks, severe fatique sleeping sometimes 18 hours per day, etc and after just 1 night of taking Gaia Adrenal Nightly Restore, I was able to eat carbs the next day and was functional. It took about a year to heal and I had to stay on the herbs every night or else my symptoms would come back if I skipped a day or 2. The most healing is in the first month but then that last bit of healing is very very slow. After that, I was able to stop taking the herbs and was fine. No other brand of herbs worked except Gaia's which is liquid extract of the highest quality. Huge difference. Hope this helps!

    Soooo encouraged by your video and success....i have a question that no one that I've asked has answered 😏.....is it normal to not be able to consume a large portion during my meals? After a small portion of the 50/50 I cant even force myself to eat more and I practice IF so I don't eat until 2pm daily and literally full from one meal til about 6pm then I close my window at 8pm

    Ok but did you try intermittent fasting on weight watchers for a more true comparison? Intermittent fasting is very helpful for weight loss regardless of what you consume. My understanding anyway.

    • @PlantBasedDads
      @PlantBasedDads  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Karen. Yes, I did intermittent fasting on WW too. The problem with WW was that I was still always hungry so I would snack when I shouldn't. I did lose 13lbs on WW but I gained it all back the same year. That was 3 years ago. The different on this diet was that I did not get hungry between meals because the whole food starchy carbs really filled me up. Thats what cause me to stick with this one. I loved going to WW. I loved the people at the meeting and I loved everyone else about it. I just couldn't stick to the limited calories.

    How does this plate method translate to a breakfast dish like oatmeal?

    • @PlantBasedDads
      @PlantBasedDads  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Oatmeal is great for breakfast on the starch solution, Just pair it with a fruit on the side and your are good to go. When I do eat breakfast, I eat buckwheat and I try and get my fruit in for the day at that meal.

    This is awesome. One of the reasons I didn't stick with the vegan diet was because I noticed I was packing on the pounds quickly. I've struggled with my weight as vegetarian over the years but I noticed it quicker as vegan. I will definitely give this a try.

    • @PlantBasedDads
      @PlantBasedDads  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Ms. Sassy (Love it!!). The only way you could gain weight as a vegan is by eating foods with fat. Vegan "food" is just as fattening as standard American diet food if you are eating vegan burgers, vegan pizza, etc. You have to eat whole food. Thats a huge problem with vegan food now, its just as bad for you as meat based food. I gained 50lbs as a vegetarian, all from cheese and dairy. If you follow The Starch Solution, prepare you're meals ahead of time and eat just whole food, plant based meals, you will drop weight. We have a Facebook group called "Plant Based Dads Starch Solution Enthusiasts". If you are on Facebook, please join. It just just me and a lot of others sharing our meals for the day, talking about what works for us and what doesn't work for us and supporting each other on this way of eating. You will really get a good feel for how others are managing on the plan and it's a lot of fun. We would love to have you. Think about joining us. It is a private group so whatever is posted in the group stays in the group. Send me a join request from FB and i'll get it approved.
