  • Engine Removal, Ford Mondeo Mk5 2L Diesel
    Engine started losing power and rattling, after diagnosis came to the assumption that possibly there is a problem with the oil pump or oil pump chain causing lack of oil pressure and subsequently causing internal engine damage.
    In this video i will be just removing the engine from the vehicle.
    The faulty engine has covered 257k miles.

    Ahhh the mk5 mondeo, where its easier to remove the engine than it is to change a headlight bulb

    Made that look very slick Alan. Can you go through the bleeding of all systems and the start up when you fit the new one. Thats what catches many people out on a engine swap.

    Nice video. Got rid of the MK5 lemon last week. 4 years old car in need of an engine replacement with 120k miles is unacceptable. Now using a ultra reliable 99 yaris (198k miles) until my Lexus is delivered. Speedy recovery to Monika.

    Must be brilliant having a set of Ramps like that. I had to change the engine on my cmax, has the 2.0 Duratec-HE .. the old engine had worn rings, but I just unbolted the front of the car, disconnected the engine/loom and using a trolley jack wheeled the lot out. I didn't even touch the AC system, just unbted the pump and cable ties it to one side 😂😂

    Those ECU security bolts - if you have an air grinder that takes ickle 76mm discs, slip one in so you cut a slot in the bolt - it'll cut the "housing" roundy thing too, too, but meh - you can then wind them out easily with a flat screwdriver in the slot you just created & they become "non-security" bolts thenceforth. Just my 2c.

    The amount of issues with the Mk5 has made me consider selling mine as it has done 115k miles now.
    Alternator clutch pulley failed at 85k.
    Water pump plastic impeller 108k.
    EGR valve just started leaking 116k.
    Clutch and flywheel are probably living on borrowed time even though I drive the car very gently.

    • @steverpcb
      @steverpcb 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      No diferent to other cars, it's just that Alan deals with 100 of them and tells us everything :)
      Cam belt is due at 125,000, I hope you had it done with the water pump.

    • @0067jon
      @0067jon 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@steverpcbYes, belts were done as the same time as the water pump.
      My previous Mk4 1.8 Tdci was much more reliable with no issues up to when I sold it at 170k.
      Just the wet belt on the 1.8 needed changing early at 90k as these can fail prematurely.
      It's the plastic components on the Mk5 engine that have reduced reliability.
