If I understand correctly, that is not an additional UHF radio-it is just the manual control head for the COM1 UHF. You would use that before the ICP was up and running (to request engine start, for example).
Correct, that is indeed just a manual control head for UHF 1. The exact same panel is used on C-130H's. You would also use this panel during emergencies when you lose mission computers or loss of AC power. This panel and the UHF radio are able to run on DC battery power.
If you want to talk to ATC on the UHF band prior to startup you have to use the backup UHF radio on the left panel. The radios on the ICP will not work until generator power is applied from the running engine. The backup UHF radio, however, just needs battery power so if you want to contact ATC for startup clearance you will have to use that radio.
This is great stuff, love your tutorials so easy to catch up to what I forgot or didn't know. Just what I needed to decide the next airplane I'm getting, I been so indecisive if to buy F18 or F16 first. Now I know, it's definitely gonna be the F16. Thank you CAP. / CHEERS!
You have to use your backup radio prior to startup. You power it from the main power battery. The up front radio will not work. You have to use your backup radio to get permission to startup the plane, and then you switch to your primary radio for everything else.
Thanks for the explanation but when set from MAIN to Both it does not seem to be working in the F16, we have never heard anything from Guard at all with it set.
I've been using the TGP to designate a position for CCRP toss bombing CBU-97 but its really hard to be accurate, you should do a video of trying to get the most range out of the CBU-97 as you can while using it accurately.
Hey Cap! Great video as always! 🙂 A little hint for the future about terminology. The ICP DCS switch is called the dobber switch, so one would say dobber down, up, left, right. Sorry if you knew this already! 😊

hi ;) I need help with radio.. I did the same thing you did.. but no replay from atc.. have easy communication off, the only replay I recived is when I move from parking without i had any answer from atc, and only in the moment I move from parking atc will say taxi to.. etc. could you help me please?
Hey buddy, when you hit enter at 6;30 you seemed to edit it. At that very point EVERY TIME, I get a flashing preset number disabling me from continuing past that point. What did you do to stop that preset number "12" from flashing?
In general, when some input is flashing on the DID, it means some value is out of range or wrong type of input. For example trying to put a uhf frequency into vhf radio
Can I somehow get the preset freq to be shown at the "front" / "default" page? Or is it always just that preset #? Ofc by pressing the freq by hand but..
@@grimreapers Thank you, it's indeed in the mission editor, when you click on one of the flight members. However i still can't talk to them, no matter what i try to do with the radio, the communication option "F1. Flight" is always greyed out.
Question for all: I can get both UHF and VHF channels to work for ATC on the ground -- but my AI wingmen are completely unresponsive. In the missions provided with the F-16, (have tried both Island Style and Coiled Viper), once I get airborne, I tune the UHF to the mission editor's assigned frequency (305.00 mHz) for my flight as well as the VHF to the mission data card's frequency for my flight (127.00). I have tried easy comms on to use just \ to transmit, I have tried easy comms off and used Rctrl \ and Rshift \ for both the UHF and VHF channels -- absolutely no response. Very difficult to do anything if you can't coordinate flight. Am I missing something here? Is anyone else experiencing this issue? Waiting for my 24 hr registration to process on the ED forums, otherwise would have posted there. :)
@@grimreapers No worries -- thank you! I think the issue may have been with the easy radio -- I cycled on and off several times and now it seems to work while turned off.
This is so weird, my radio works perfectly with airports, however the tankers won't respond. I tried with the kc135 and kc135mprs, both respond if I can them with a mirage or harrier, but they ignore me with the f16. Weirder: I can hear them talk to other people, but they won't acknowledge me. Tried with both radios

I need more crayons for all the notes I should be taking.
I eat crayons so that wouldn’t be a good idea for me 😕

When you were in the editor, how did you know which of those frequencies to use and not to use?
click on the Airfield and see which of the Tower freqs match the available ranges of our radios, and use those freqs.

Same problem here
how can i set a frequency in FM band? There are some missions that require FM frequency (ie 33.000 FM) to communicate with JTAC.
You would use Com 2. That's an FM radio and should be able to go that low.
