    I am glad they made it 42mm, it is hard to find a stylish field watch that looks good on my giant wrist, they already offer plenty of great 36-40 field watch options for folks with smaller wrists.

    I have the Cooper and in my opinion it's the best value in terms of fit/finish design proposition under $600. I absolutely love it's uniqueness and quality. I'm about to step up to the next level and purchase the in house Tudor black bay steel blue bezel. Gray market at 3,000 it's the best proposition in the above mentioned category.
    I know you received much flack for the Sub/Tudor opinion piece and I understand your position but also understand those who had an issue with some of the opinions. Id love to see you do an updated review with the in house variant and something similar in design in its price category of the sub $5,000 range.
    Excellent work on all your videos!

    Wearing my Khaki Pilot "Cooper" while watching. Had it for just over a year and am still impressed with the quality. The dial size definitely pushes to the edge of the case and makes it present quite large. I prefer 38-40mm sports watches for sure, so I know this is the largest watch I will ever have for my 6.5" wrist. Also love the movie connection. Thanks, Guy.

    • @JustBlueFish
      @JustBlueFish  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ya the dial does give the impression of more wrist presence but it’s still quite wearable.

    The Murph is the actual size. If they’d made it smaller, the watch community would have complained forever. It’s a beautiful piece. Breaking in the strap does help it feel smaller.

    Hello Guy: a top presentation as usual. It was nice seeing the way you set the Murph watch (ie synchronizing the seconds hand with the minute hand at the 12 position). The Cathedral style minute and hour hand set are what would seal the deal for me in favor of the Murph. The Cooper watch of course shows a very strong laco flieger influence. The handset on the Cooper hardly compares, The Cathedral/ Syringe presentation on the Murph, is just about an unbeatable combination for a handset. For the precision setting of the hands, Bravo.

    I bought the Cooper on eBay for a great price. It’s very comfortable and I really like the fit an finish. Even though it a larger watch, it wears very well on my 7 1/4 inch wrist. The day/date complication is just icing on the cake! I also like the way the light reflects off of the indices. Depending on the lighting conditions, it can be a stunning watch.

    Hi Guy, a great objective review of both these watches, thanks. I like them both but the size of the Murph on paper was sort of putting me off... then I tried one. On my 7" wrist I think it wears smaller as it has the black dial but if it had a white dial or even super white markings it would seem to grow. 52mm lug to lug is long by the standards of today but the logs shape downward to compensate somewhat, on My wrist it fits quite snug and certainly feels no need to waltz around my wrist. I guess a lot of this is what you are used to, I have a few >40mm watches so for me I guess I was already used to it. I also tried smaller lug to lug watches (OK a tad taller) that want to get the best the scenery has to offer trying to spin around my wrist.
    Like you I didn't expect to like the Cooper as much and I've warmed to that watch a lot. There is just something about that Murph watch that I may have to scratch. Maybe it's the hands or simple dial or maybe it's because of it's size who knows.
    Once again a great review.

    Thank you for this review. Interesting how the larger looking watch (the Cooper) is the smaller wearing watch. With a 20cm wrist, I think either of these would look fine on my wrist, but thanks for the lug-to-lug comparison - I didn’t know that was part of how to ‘size’ a watch for one’s wrist. I’m really quite torn choosing one of these because while I like the pilot presentation of the Cooper, I like the lack of complications of the Murph.

    yeah, when first announced about the Murph, I couldn't believe it was 42mm. but, apparently, the dimensions of this production model are screen accurate. which is too bad for more modestly sized wrists. it would have been nice to have it at no more than 40mm. but, I guess there are other khaki field watches that come close enough to that style to fill that need.. almost, but not quite the same.

    • @JustBlueFish
      @JustBlueFish  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ya it may be screen accurate, but it was probably made large so it would look better on camera, and not for how it would wear on the wrist. As it is, it is just too large for most people.

  • @rc7059
    @rc7059 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Great review! I love the look of both watches but slightly preferred the look of the murph from what I’ve seen in video reviews and in print.
    As I have 8.5” wrists I thought I’d be pretty safe - and indeed having ordered the murph it fit very comfortably and wasn’t too big for me.. loved the morse code on the second hand and particularly liked the cathedral style hands and the font of the Arabic numerals. Also I thought the strap was of great quality and contrary to some reviews I’ve read I didn’t find the strap too uncomfortable or stiff.. overall a beautiful watch - and it’s such a faithful reproduction of the watch in the film..
    ..however something wasn’t quite right for me, I found personally the crystal was very reflective and in several lighting conditions it made the watch tricky to read and I felt the sandy coloured numerals (although beautiful) - in day-to-day lighting conditions they were quite faint especially through the very reflective crystal.. also looking at it in the context of my whole collection it just didn’t pop for me in the way I thought it would so with a heavy heart I returned the watch after 24 hours (having been careful to not remove any of the stickers or tags other than the one on the top crystal - just to get an idea of what it look like in different lighting conditions)...
    however particularly after seeing this review, I got it into my head that I really wanted an ‘interstellar’ watch, having seen several photos of Cooper wearing this watch in the film and after watching this review I decided to exchange the watch for the Cooper...
    Wow, I’m so glad I did!! For me the moment I opened the box I was really blown away and really excited. For me it’s all about the dial, it’s absolutely stunning, I love the fact that the numerals do actually ‘come and go’ slightly- depending on the lighting and the angle at which you look at the watch, but regardless of this, the hour and minute hands are always easy to read in any lighting conditions.. reading the time is never difficult, (actually the watch looks cool when you can only see the hour/minute hands!)
    The watch is quite dressy and slightly blingy (absolutely without being tacky) when you see the bright shining Arabic numerals. I’ve only had so watch a few days, but the movement seems buttery smooth.
    I think the bracelet looks great, and the clasp is decent, comfortable to wear, (there is no denying that compared to my Tudor, Longines and Oris, the Hamilton bracelet is a little more lightweight a little bit more clattery when shaken, but I think it’s really smart, it’s very comfortable, I like the fact it’s got a proper pushbutton clasp rather than a butterfly clasp, it’s all beautifully signed, (and incredible value at the price point), certainly very happy to wear this day to day, a very attractive bracelet, I think the brand is great With an interesting history and story, and it seems fitting having had a couple of Hamiltons in the past that I’ve flipped, to have one in the collection once again - particularly one that’s got a movie connection…, above all the dial is just beautiful. I can seriously see myself making this a keeper in the collection!

      @Keith Trevvett Hamilton made the Murph watch with random pieces in their shop for the movie. It was actually possible to make one by buying 3 or so watches and breaking them down. So the watch in the movie happened to be quite large with the stuff they had around. And Hamilton wanted to make it the exact same watch so it's just the world we have to live in lol

    • @cknight0518
      @cknight0518 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The size is due to the fact that it's an exact reproduction of the Murph watch from the movie. If you watch the movie, you'll see Cooper hold up each watch side-by-side, and they have the same case diameter.

    • @sanderbass
      @sanderbass 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@cknight0518 Yeah I read about that too. And in a way of showing both side by side it makes sense to have it be that big. But I think the watch would have been much more desirable (on it's own, not as a movie prop watch tribute) if it were smaller.

    Bruh you need to wait next 15 years and eat fried sausage after 8 pm more often to understand the demografic of Murphy's watch. Khaki pilot with B-type dial is clearly modern style for young man without clogged veins. On the other hand- Murphys is an old man's watch and Hammy knows his western 50+ y-olds wrist sizes.

    Hamilton got, and presumeably paid for, a double product placement in a film. So what? Except that people who buy this watch are going to be paying for it.
    In Europe we're not overwhelmed by Hamilton; especially their lowsy WR on their so called 'field' watches. Screw down crown? No sir.
    In the USA they're big big big, despite the fact that Hamilton was farming out its caliber production to Switzerland (Buren) from 1966.
    Get wise. You're being had.

    • @Chained88
      @Chained88 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hamilton was contacted to create a brand new watch for Interstellar. They built the Murph watch from the ground up specifically for the film. You better bet they get additional product placement for doing so and making something so beautiful so quickly for the demand.
