Bad news you won't find the "Thermostat Assembly" at the Auto Parts store or Nissan dealership. This is considered a hard part. Hard parts don't fail... or at least should at last a lifetime of the engine, but this is not always the case. Nissan made three different thermostat assembly revisions between 1994-1999. So what can you do? Good news is that you can find a good used Thermostat Assembly from Ebay or a local wreaking yard which is what we do in these rare situations when hard parts fail.

Does this apply the same for a Nissan Altima 2000? I know for that year is 97-01

This Nissan was made between Aug 95 - Jan 96, we found the build month and year made changes the part numbers used. The thermostat service is similar, but as far as the water block assemble to engine goes that will be slightly different. In this video the water block assembly did not use a paper gasket and is considered "wet gasket" service only. Feb 96-01 model years have two different part numbers for paper gaskets to seal the water block assemble together; not to be confused with the thermostat outlet gasket which is the same for all years 96-01. Nissan had three water block assemble design changes from 95-01 and much to my surprise none are interchangeable with each other.

So i will need a gasket for a 2000? I can't find anything about this thing online and it's driving me nuts.

I have a 98 Nissan Altima with the 2.4 motor that you're working on and and that part is leaking and also the curved hose with the spring that runs to the block collapses slightly where there is no spring under load is this normal

If you have a hose that is collapsing when the engine is running then you may need a new radiator cap / and or Hose(s). This is not normal for any car! Cooling hoses should expand slightly under heated pressure not collapse under running suction. The radiator cap lets the system expand and contact as needed. The radiator cap is to blame 90% of the time for this condition. Followed by an old hose(s) that can't keep its O.E.M. formed shape under a VERY LITE suction condition which is normal at cold starts only! After warm up if the hose still collapses replace it and the radiator cap too. The auto parts store sell the hose(s) you need but they are slightly bigger and will need a small bit of trimming to fit properly.

Or is it just due to malfunctioning part

The defective inlet thermostat coupled with tap water based coolant caused this caviation issue to become much worse. This Altima was made in 1/96. Nissan used this water block design for 1/2 year only 8/95 to 1/96. We found that Nissan used three different water block designs and none are interchangeable with each other. We had to rebuild the unit as best as we could and send it back out. No problems to report so far. This one is truly a manufacture defect even with tap water coolant issue.
