For the store alarms, check your purse and clothes for security tags! The ones they put in purses are just tiny plastic rectangles like an inch or two long and they hide them in the pockets. I was setting off alarms too and it was a security tag in my new purse!
My mom has tons of Crotons and they are always thriving!...but we live in Central Florida and she has them planted outside in a spot that gets direct sun year-round. I've never seen them do well inside unfortunately :(
My aunt told me Crotons shouldn’t be watered until the leaves droop slightly. Mine is in my ikea greenhouse under a mother grow light. It’s a super low maintenance plant. I think I’ve always killed them because I over-loved them. 😂 You’re my favorite plant-tuber btw. Always Keepin it real. 🤘
I'm new to the planty world (less than 1 year) and the gold dust croton was one of my first purchases. I keep them in east or south facing windows and water when the leaves feel soft. Yellow is my favorite color, and I love them so much!!
I just bought the adorable green cactus pot at Home Depot. Along with my first Scindapsus, argyraeus I believe. It is lovely but was drenched. I sat it on paper towels, used so many to get the excess water out. So far it is doing good.
I have a good dust croton, and I find they like lots of room for their roots and less is more when it comes to watering. Thanks for taking us with you!
Croton needs full sun. Put a grow light directly over it, like 3 ft away and they will be happy. Also I don't let it completely dry, not sure if that's right but mine blooms all the time
14:10 THIS SOLVES A MYSTERY FOR ME! Last week I rescued a very very sad corn plant from in front of my apartment complex's dumpster and there were dying/dead, leafless vines in the pot at the bottom. I had a feeling they were pothos when I pulled them out but this pretty much confirms that this type of thing has been sold recently

I water it every other day in summer and fertilize it at the beginning of spring... It even bloomed I didn't know they bloom
I have a croton thats doing well! It was very sad until I moved and left it on the back porch and now its like 1m tall and so bushy and colourful! I water it once a month and it has very, very bright indirect light. It's in a self watering plastic planter which helps with the infrequent watering I think
p.s. I live in australia so leaving it outside all year is probably different for you! But I think it really enjoys the heat and light of being outside here
Hi Harli, I do love to plant shop at my big box stores because they do get some really cool plants, and I agree with you, I love boston ferns, but I kill them too, and the china doll I also love but those also die on me. Oh I really like that Diffenbachia Reflector and those leaves look so cool. Oh one of my favorites are the purple passion, i have one but have been looking for another one to add to this one and make it fuller. I also really like Crotons and had one of those golden ones and another one that had beautiful colors and a third one with great colors and they all died, the golden one was with me for over a year then it started to die and got some spider mites. I wish I could figure out what I was doing wrong and if I could get another one and keep it alive. Thanks for a really fun video Harli, I hope that you have a beautiful day, sending love and hugs, bye! 🤗💜💜
You made me laugh when you told me you accidentally elbowed an employee....such a social awkward excursion. I hope you have many more, LOL.....have your ever thought of accidental comedy?...it comes so natural to you. Such fun going shopping with you and your fluffy mic. Jo....
This past fall I managed to snag a Baltic Blue at my local Lowes for $1.50 from the clearance rack. The poor thing was in such a sad state I almost passed. I'm glad I didn't because it bounced right back after I got it home and in a new pot. It seems they're a bit dramatic when they get dry in my experience. Sometimes I'll walk by and the thing looks like it's about to give up on life and a good soaking brings it right back. In January I gave it a hair cut and wrapped and pinned some of the vines. I got 15 cuttings that all took root in water that I transferred to soil about 2 weeks ago, so far 9 have pushed new growth and the roots are already pushing out of the drainage holes in the bottom of the 5" nursery pot I put them in. On the mother plant several nodes that were pinned have started rooting and there's new growth popping up all over the place which is really filling the plant out.
Sorry, I have to repeat what already is in a comment below. It is a Panther, not a Reflector. Reflector is more expensive, usually about $35 on Etsy. BUT there was a chance to get it for $6.99. About a month ago Smith's grocery had a new line of plants called "Select HP Collection", and for a first introductory week a nice tropical plant in the nice ceramic cover pot was just $6.99, I don't know what they wanted as a regular price because everything was sold right away. There were many Reflector plants. Smith's is just a local name for KROGER in Utah. I can not tell you is a marketplace or regular Smith's getting better assortment but I have found many collectible plants there. Happy grocery shopping to all of us.
Grow croton in deep water leca, put them were they get full morning sun and as new water roots appear pull them back from window when new leaves appear.
Laughed so hard I cried. To much fun. You know those pots were there last year, same price in Virginia State. You could so take your flowers you make and attach them. It would look amazing. That one without an ID, I'm pretty sure it's a variety of Aeschynanthus (or possibly a Nematanthus, they can look similar). Maybe Aeschynanthus radicans? Yeah, I have 4 of those planters. I can't imagine why they're as cheap as they are. I've also bought some slightly smaller ones, also cheap. Also about the croton: I don't know why mine is doing well but it is. I don't know much about them. I have it in a pot without drainage because I think they want a lot of moisture. It does well under a grow light or at an east facing window (at least mine has done well in both locations)

I got a golden croton in a half dead arrangement planter from Lowe's in the fall that I took apart to save and prop as my winter project. My sister was like "Croton's are cursed they always die!" I put this kid in plant ICU in by sunniest window in a plastic planter with the "Don't look at him, don't move him, and only do a half turn when watering." Like I don't even carry this plant to water him he just has a matching saucer under. Being in the plastic planter made it super easy to figure him out. For the first month I lifted it every time I walked past to feed the cat I'd check the pot to see if it was light. I found it needed water every four days and I also looked at it every time I was cleaning up the kitchen at night cause the moment you see a leaf lightly droop water that kid. It's like a Ficus don't mess with him and he's happy and just know he's one of those problem child plants that you gotta keep in your line of vision of daily tasks. This kid was a stick with two leaves and now he's sipping on Liquiddirt like he's on a counter top cruise ship...
