Salam ‘Alaykum. Thank you for this video. Would you suggest, for a beginner, the book ‘Introduction to Logic, as developed by Muslim Logicians’ by Sayyid Ali Murtada? I believe it is an English translation based on Muhammad Rida al-Muzaffar’s al-Mantiq.
Thank you for the logic list. Professor, I'm almost finished with Socratic Logic and Sulivan's book; after that, where do you recommend I go? Do I go to a book by a philosopher, such as Aristotle? I went to Logic to better comprehend philosophy, and it has been quite beneficial, but where should I start when going into philosophy? Perhaps you could make a reading list on this :)
Salam Alaikum Dear Saiyad al-Karim Professor Nizam al-Din. Very useful video. Please post more of these. I am seminary student and I think this is useful especially from one who is well aware.
Thanks for this great list. Dr do you have any recommendations for a history of sciences in Islam? From the intellectual sciences like philosophy to Fiqh and also alchemy and cosmology? I’m looking for reliable scholarly books.
I think I have posted an answer to this question which you posted as a comment on another video. However, at some point I may do a separate reading list on this, but it will be a long list…
Thanks. Have you watched my video "Against the Modern World: A Reading List"? I discuss some books on metaphysics in English in this video. Perhaps I will do a separate vidoe on this at some point. Thank you for the suggestion.
Logic properly understood is the study of human thinking and has as its goal the fostering of correct reasoning by preventing errors in human thought through adhering to its principles. Human thinking consists of three fundamental acts of the mind: The first of these is simple apprehension, or the formation of concepts. Concepts are expressed in the words of some language or another. The second act of the mind is judgment which takes the form of propositions, which are declarative sentences. Finally, the third act of the mind is argument, or reasoning in which propositions are strung together to argue for something. Modern symbolic logic is not useful because it neglects the study of concepts and focuses on the study of propositions alone, but in symbolic form and only on the formal structure of arguments. Thus, it is remote from the way humans actually formulate concepts, construct propositions, and then craft arguments since human beings communicate through the medium of language.
