Big blue connector is used for the telephone functionality (optional). It plugs into the BlueBus with an adapter that uses the 6-pin rectangular connection on the BlueBus. Not all E39s will have this connector, some newer ones have a 54-pin black connector.
How does this work? I mean, how is this thing adding a new “mode” to the display? Is it “exploiting” the old wired telephone feature and changing the text on it? For example where it says “Bluetooth” on the top, it’s supposed to say the cellular network name? How??
This product uses the CD changer wiring which has an IBUS pin on it. The BlueBus emulates the CD changer but is much more useful and adds new logic to the IBUS circuit to add these new features and functions.

Hi Ryan Is there a way to make Angel Eyes light up even during the day? Like modern cars, daylight The second question is how to make the car's external lights turn on when I press the car opening and the car is locked by the remote control
I'm the creator of the BlueBus -- what you want is commonly referred to as "Angel eyes as DRLs" and "Welcome Home" lights. These features will make their way to the BlueBus in due time.
If the car came with the factory phone, yes, it will be pre-wired. If not, you can easily install the microphone since all American E39s are prewired for the microphone.
I just installed the bluebus on my 2001 e39 m5. My phone connects and displays on the screen. When I go to play music, no sound comes through the speakers. The radio works fine. The car does have the bavsound speakers. I have all the cables plugged in besides the analog cable that I cannot find. Could that be my problem?
A 2001 E39 won't have the 6-pin analog cable. Your audio signal will be using the single pole digital (coaxial) DSP cable. Remove this cable from the BlueBus and use a tiny screwdriver to gently pry the inner tabs towards the center of the cable, this should make a better connection to the BlueBus and get your audio signal back. It's possible that the other end of this cable (amplifier) needs this treatment as well. In BlueBus audio settings, ensure that audio output is set to digital instead of analog.
@ it seems like the dsp cable is intermittently failing. It will work when it is half in a specific way. It works, but seems like a bump in the road could move it around causing it to fail. Do you have any recommendations for a new dsp cable?
@@E39Source Apparently there were two versions of the DSP amplifiers: DSP 1 and DSP 2. If I'm not wrong DSP 1 was installed until 1998/1999 and after that BMW installed amplifiers that were produced by Lear until the end of production. Recently got my BlueBus, and have had a hell of a time trying to find a 3 pin and 6 pin pre-wired bundle to hook it up. I have a 2009 BMW X3, and it seems that my hi-fi stereo is not pre-wired for satellite radio in the trunk nor is it pre-wired for the cd changer under the centre armrest. So... I'm screwed? Ted sent me an extra long phone wire to go from my oem Bluetooth module in the trunk with the original intention for it to run to the centre armrest (where the cd changer wires should be). Having discovered that I do not have the wiring for the cd changer there, could you let me know if my next plan/idea has any merit: to place the BlueBus under the driver's side dash and run wires from the head unit and the trunk to there. 1. I ran the 10 foot phone cable supplied by Ted from the trunk to the driver's side under the dash; 2. If my car is not pre-wired for any additional inputs (neither satellite radio nor cd changer), can I order the 3 pin and 6 pin wiring harness from the dealer (?), plug it in to the back of the business cd head unit, install the missing cd changer fuse, and run the new harness to the driver's side dash? (From the look of it, it would be infinitely easier to run the cables this way rather than trying to run them under the carpet from the trunk and from the head unit to the space under the arm rest). Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
A 2009 must be pre-wired, as even the 2000 model cars were. I am less familiar with the E83 X3 platform, so I am not sure where the wiring would be. I would want the BlueBus installed wherever the 3-pin CD changer wiring is. I would all but guarantee that you are pre-wired for this. These wires are part of the factory harness and cannot be purchased separately.
@@E39Source Appreciate the reply. I'm calling my dealer on Monday and going to ask them to confirm what pre-wiring I have based on my VIN. I've looked very carefully in the cavity under the front centre armrest for the cd changer pre-wiring bundle, but no success, and there's definitely nothing in the trunk. I've also reached out to Ted for his advice on how to proceed. Hoping to hear back from him soon - I really want to get this thing working!

I have a 2001 m5 with intravee 2 Alpine ipod adapted already installed. Is the bluebus compatible with this wiring? Are there any instructions and/or diy for this install ?
You cannot retain the Intravee 2 if you get a BlueBus. Plus, there's major feature overlap in terms of the extras found in the IV. Of course, being a more mature product, the IV has more features. Thanks! -Ted
I ordered and received the unit from ECS Tuning. I came without any documentation or instructions. I would like to know where I can source the cable adapter to the "blue" connector. On the comments below, it states from bluebus.dev, but that is not correct. Thanks for your reply!
For what it's worth, you can buy it from the BlueBus website by going into the order page and setting "Units" to 0, then clicking "Add Telephone Adapter". It's not intuitive, I know, but as I don't have stock, I'm trying NOT to sell any adapters by themselves.

Just curious about the DSP. I have a Bluebus installed and had both the Analog and DSP mini coax hooked up to it. Today I noticed that in the settings it has always been set at Analog. When I switch to DSP there is no sound. I know my car has DSP, but wondering if i cannot have both the analog and digital connected at the same time? I saw you mentioned you can only use one, but not sure if thats just in regards to setting or actually plugging them in. Thanks
I have both plugged in on my M5 as well, no problem with that. Ensure that the other end of the black coaxial DSP cable is plugged into the top of your black DSP amplifier. If so, you still have no audio, disconnect the DSP cable from the BlueBus and use a tiny flat-head screwdriver to gently press the internal prongs on the cable closer to the center. These are known to fatigue over time and not make proper contact with the BlueBus. Moving them closer the center should restore connection and the audio feed. You can also do this on the amplifier side of the cable.
Whoever has installed this on a e46 convertible with Nav! Please do a video. For the life of me, I can't find the 54 pin connector for phone call functions. I took a part most of the liner in my truck.
So does this not work without the analog DSP 6 pin cable? Because I connected the rest and when I cycle through media it only goes to FM, and CD. And I can't find it in my Bluetooth connections
in case anyone else runs into this issue and you have a MKII nav unit and it shows CD 07-01: connect the bluebus via USB to your computer and follow the steps in this link github.com/tedsalmon/BlueBus/wiki/Accessing-the-Terminal then once you have putty running enter the following command and hit enter: set ui 2 disconnect bluebus from your computer, and it should work now. P.S. you can do this while bluebus is connected to the car, the only thing thats different is that after you finish everything above you will need to unplug and reconnect the 3-pin.
The 3-pin connector from the CD changer is what gives the BlueBus power, and will allow it to wake up, show in the modes list, and connect to your phone. The 6-pin is purely for audio.
Hello there! I see there are no open orders available right now, I registered myself to get one for my Z4M with DSP Audio. DO you know when the devices will be available again?
I'm thinking about doing another run of orders in mid-July or early August. ECS Tuning purchased 50 units from the current sale for their stock, so you may be able to snag one of those when they get them in stock.
If your vehicle doesnt have telephone/cellphone OEM, what would be the correct way to install that? (M Steering wheel with the correct functions for cellphone/telephone)
Simon, If your car was pre-wired for the telephone, then it's an easy retrofit to allow the BlueBus to use the OE system. Otherwise, I can guide you on retrofitting the requisite wiring, but it would NOT be easy. You can use mdecoder.com to figure out if the car was pre-wired for telephony.
@@tass2001 After looking in the boot, it would appear that the previous owner has replaced the amplifier with some aftermarket stuff. It looks like speaker amplifiers you get, in a speaker set.
@@vincentask The aftermarket units, in my opinion, look very cheap and out of place. It's easy to tell that somebody has bolted in a chinese-built head unit that doesn't match the rest of the car. Sure, the menus are still 'out of date' but they're period correct for the car, easy to use, and reliable. The Android system will also look horribly out of date in a few years.

confused about the big blue connector for the phone, i thought that was supposed to plug into the Blue Bus? Where did it go?
Big blue connector is used for the telephone functionality (optional). It plugs into the BlueBus with an adapter that uses the 6-pin rectangular connection on the BlueBus. Not all E39s will have this connector, some newer ones have a 54-pin black connector.
Could you post the connector part numbers for the SES to six pin connector on the Bluebus?
How does this work? I mean, how is this thing adding a new “mode” to the display? Is it “exploiting” the old wired telephone feature and changing the text on it? For example where it says “Bluetooth” on the top, it’s supposed to say the cellular network name? How??
This product uses the CD changer wiring which has an IBUS pin on it. The BlueBus emulates the CD changer but is much more useful and adds new logic to the IBUS circuit to add these new features and functions.

Will it work if I don't have dsp?
@@myleszumwalt6794 I recommend the factory cable tinyurl.com/4sumx4uc

Already waiting mine!
1. I ran the 10 foot phone cable supplied by Ted from the trunk to the driver's side under the dash;
I've also reached out to Ted for his advice on how to proceed. Hoping to hear back from him soon - I really want to get this thing working!
